Sports – Monday, January 4th, 2021

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers dropped a 70-60 decision to Vienna Saturday night in Vienna to fall to 2-6 on the year. They will host the Newburg Wolves in a makeup game from November Tuesday night starting with the JV game at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will host Cabool tonight in the first SCA Conference game this season at the SHS Gym. Salem enters the game with a 8-4 record. KSMO Radio will carry the varsity game tonight around 7:15 as well as video livestream the game on ksmoradio.com.

The Salem High School will be passing out vouchers for the girls game tonight against Cabool starting at 9:00 this morning. Vouchers for the boys game on Tuesday against Newburg will be available starting at noon today. With the new mask mandate now in effect at the Salem R-80 Schools, all students attending games at the Salem High School will be required to wear a mask! While it is not mandatory for the general public, the Salem R-80 School District recommends masks be worn!

The St. Louis Blues have announced their 56- game schedule for the 2020-2021 regular season. The Blues will open the season against Colorado on January 13th and 15th. All games will be played in a back to back format, but games may be shuffled around depending on any COVID-19 outbreaks.

Jeremiah Tilmon scored 25 and Xavier Pinson netted 23 more as Missouri knocked off 12th ranked Arkansas Saturday, 81-68. Missouri is 7-1 on the year and the Tigers will play Mississippi State Tuesday night. KSMO will join the game in progress after Salem Basketball.

The Kansas City Chiefs lost 38-21 to the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday to end the regular season with a 14-2. They have a bye in the first round of the playoffs this weekend.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers took second place Wednesday at the Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament as they fell to Hartville, 62-51. Savannah Manthey led Salem with 18 points followed by Ashton Bowers scoring 16 and Avery Erway adding 10. Salem is 8-4 this year and will host Cabool Monday in the first SCA Conference game this season at the SHS Gym. KSMO Radio will carry the varsity game Monday as well as video livestream the game on ksmoradio.com.

Salem’s Savannah Manthey and Ashton Bowers were named to the All- Tournament Team from the Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament. Congratulations ladies!

The Tennessee Volunteers beat the Missouri Tigers, 73-53 to drop Missouri to 6-1 overall. Xavier Pinson scored 11 to lead the Tigers. The Missouri Tigers will play Arkansas this Saturday morning at 10:30 on KSMO.

Savannah Manthey led all scorers with 26 points followed by Bella Jadwin who netted 15 points and Ashton Bowers scored 14 more. Salem is now 8-3 and they will play the Hartville Lady Eagles at 2:30 and you can hear the game on KSMO and ksmoradio.com.

Ashton Bowers scored 18 points to lead the Salem Girls Basketball Tigers past Dora Monday afternoon at Mountain Grove, 56-36. Salem will play Willow Springs this afternoon at 3:00 in the tournament semi-final. The winner will play in championship Wednesday at 2:30 while the loser will play for 3rd place at 1:00 Wednesday.

Due to an increase in positive COVID-19 tests among its student-athletes, coaches and staff following Mizzou Football’s final regular-season game, the team will be unable to participate in Wednesday’s TransPerfect Music City Bowl against the University of Iowa.

Salem will play Dora today at 3:00. Salem enters the tournament with a 6-3 record. The winner will play Tuesday at 3:00 and the loser will play Tuesday morning at 9:00.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers beat Summersville Saturday night in the Cabool Holiday Tournament, 47-37 for their second straight win. Salem will play Licking tonight at 7:30. The winner will play Tuesday at 6:30 while the loser will play Tuesday at 3:30. KSMO will NOT be broadcasting the game tonight due to previous commitments.

Patrick Mahomes touchdown pass to Demarcus Robinson with just under two minutes left gave the Kansas City Chiefs a 17-14 win over Atlanta and clinched a first round bye in the playoffs. The Chiefs are 14-1 on the season.

The Blues will shift to the West Division, which includes the Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, San Jose Sharks and Vegas Golden Knights. At the start of the season, fans will NOT be allowed to attend any games.

The winner will play Monday at 3:00 against the winner of the Dora/Plato game. The loser will play at 9:00 Monday morning against the loser of that game. Salem enters the tournament with a 5-3 record.

Lucas Morrison scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as the Salem Tigers beat Camdenton Friday night, 60-57. Salem will be off until Saturday night when they play Summersville in the Cabool Holiday Tournament at 7:30 at Cabool. Salem is 1-3 on the year.

The Salem Lady Tigers fell to the Borgia Lady Knights Friday afternoon at Sullivan on a last second shot, 48-47. Salem is now 5-3 and they will play Saturday morning against Seymour in the Mountain Grove Holiday Tournament.

The Missouri Football Tigers lost to Mississippi State on Saturday by the score of 51-32 in the last regular season game. It was their second straight loss. Missouri will play Iowa in the Transperfect Music City Bowl in Nashville on December 30th at 3:00.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will play Bradley Tuesday at 5:30 on KSMO Radio. Missouri is 5-0 on the season.

The Kansas City Chiefs got three touchdown passes from Patrick Mohomes and beat New Orleans Sunday, 32-29 to go to 13-1 on the year. They will play Atlanta on Sunday.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will play the St. Francis Borgia Lady Knights today at 5:30 in the Consolation Championship at the People’s Bank Holiday Tournament in Sullivan. The Lady Tigers enter play with a 5-2 record on the year.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers game Friday vs. Prairie View A&M has been cancelled due to COVID-19 issues within the Panthers’ program. Missouri will play Bradley next Tuesday at 5:30 on KSMO Radio. Missouri is 5-0 on the season.

The Missouri Football Tigers final regular season game will be Saturday afternoon against Mississippi State starting at 2:30. Missouri is 5-4 going into the game. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

After 15 seasons and more than 1,000 NHL games, St. Louis Blues forward Alexander Steen is calling it a career. He announced his retirement as a player on Thursday due to a back injury he sustained during the 2019-20 season that has left him with degenerating and herniated disks in the lumbar region. Steen recorded 245 goals and 377 assists (454 points) in a 15-season career that included a Stanley Cup championship with the Blues in 2019.
