The St. Louis Cardinals begin a three-game series in Pittsburgh tonight. The pre-game show will begin at 5:10 tonight, 2:10 Saturday and Sunday’s game will have a delayed start time of 11:40. All the games can be head on KSMO. The Cardinals are currently in 4th place in the Central Division, five games behind Milwaukee.
The Kansas City Royals will host the Colorado Rockies for a three-game series at Kaufmann Stadium. The Royals are in 5th place in Central Division and are 12 games behind Minnesota who is in 1st place.

At the Salem Spring Athletic Banquet held at the high school Tuesday night, Athletic Director Clay Moody announced the winner of the Tiger and Lady Tiger Awards for the best boy and girl athletes for the year as voted by this year’s coaches. This year’s Tiger award went to Gunner Konkel and the Lady Tiger Award went to Savannah Manthey. Other awards announced by Track and Field Coach Derek Freeman were for the Boy “Best on Track” Award which went to Wyatt Campbell and the Boy “Best in Field” Award that went to Bryson May. For the girls in track and field, the Girl “Best on Track” Award went to Rebekah Pipp and the Girl “Best in Field” Award went to Savannah Manthey. In baseball, Coach Tony Edwards gave out the Gold Glove Award to catcher Haiden Sanders, the Silver Slugger Award to Kash Howard and the Top Gun Award went to Bronson Crocker. Tennis Coach Will Hubbs handed out three awards for tennis and they were the “Player Of The Year” Award which went to Logan Hubbs, and two “Tennis Tiger” Awards: one to Gunnar Konkel and the other to Will Christensen.
The Healthy Dent County Fitness Center at 1200 West Rolla Road will be holding a “Hoop Fitness +Flow Beginner Adult Series” class starting this and every Saturday morning in June at 8:40 and ending around 9:30. The class is a month long class and will offer the fundamentals of using a hula hoop that will tighten your core and tone your back, arms, chest as well as increase your range of motion. Both the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals were off Wednesday and they have the day off again today before getting back to action Friday night. The Cards will start a three-game series at Pittsburgh while the Royals will host Colorado.

Miles Mikolas pitched eight innings of three-hit ball and Nolan Arenado drove in a run with a double as the St. Louis Cardinals beat Kansas City Tuesday night, 2-1. The Cardinals will have two days off before beginning a series at Pittsburgh against the Prates on Friday night. The Royals will also have two days off before beginning their next series at home against Colorado Friday night.

Salem Lady Tiger Savannah Manthey finished off her high school track and field career by capturing the Class 3 Javelin State Championship with a throw of 42.7 meters this past weekend in the state track meet. Congratulations Savannah!!
Four Salem Tigers were named to the All-SCA Conference baseball team. Named to the All-SCA Conference 1st Team as an outfielder was Kash Howard while Cayden Moody was named to the All-SCA Conference 2nd Team also as an outfielder. Senior Bronson Crocker was named to the All-SCA Honorable Mention team as a pitcher and Owen Hamilton was also named to the Honorable Mention team as an infielder for his play at 1st base. Congratulations Tigers!
The Salem Tigers Athletic Department will hold a Spring Sports banquet this evening starting at 5:00 to salute the athletes that participated in springs sports this year including tennis, track, baseball, softball and golf. The event will be held in the high school cafeteria and is open to all the athletes and their families. Awards for all the sports will be distributed following the meal.
The Kansas City Royals pitching staff gave up just two eighth inning singles after pitching seven perfect innings, and 9th inning home runs by Bobby Witt, Jr. and Micheal Massey led the Royals to a 7-0 romp over the St. Louis Cardinals Monday at Busch Stadium. Kansas City finished with 16 hits in the game. The Royals have won two straight games while the Cardinals have lost five of their last seven games. The two teams will square off again in St. Louis tonight starting at 5:50 with the pregame show on KSMO Radio.

Miles Mikolas pitched seven scoreless endings which helped the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 2-1. Nolan Gorman extended his hitting streak to 15 with an RBI double. The Cards begin a three-game series tonight at Cleveland against the Guardians. Tonight’s game will be at 5:15 tonight, 5;20 Saturday night and 11:45 Sunday morning. The Red Birds then face Kansas City for a short two-game set beginning Memorial Day at 12:20 on KSMO Radio.
The Kansas City Royals had Thursday off and begin a three-game series tonight with the Washington Nationals at Kauffman Stadium.

Healthy Dent County is hosting a round robin Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, June 10th, at 9:00am in the Salem Community Center@The Armory. Will feature and open doubles format. The Cards played the Reds and fell behind early, the Reds scored 4 runs in the first and never relinquished the lead. Final score 3-10.They face off again this morning on KSMO Radio at 10:40 on KSMO to wrap up their four game series.
The Tigers fared better vs the Royals who batted in runs during each of the last 3 innings ultimately falling to the Tigers 6-4. Kansas City will have the day off today.

Three Salem Lady Softball Tigers were named to the Class 2, District 3 All District teams. Named to the 1st All-District Team was senior Ashton Bowers and sophomore Reagan Dubois while junior Delaney Owen was named to the 2nd All-District team. Congratulations ladies!!!
Two Salem players were named to the Class 4, District 4 All-District team and they were senior Bronson Crocker and sophomore Kash Howard. Congratulations Tigers!
Paul Goldschmidt hit two homers and Tommy Edman went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs as the St. Louis Cardinals beat Cincinnati Tuesday, 8-5. The Cards will be in Cincinnati again today to face the Reds at 4:45 on KSMO.
Kansas City scored three runs in the 4th inning and held on to beat Detroit Tuesday, 4-1. The Royals and Tigers play again tonight.

Salem High School Boys Basketball Coach Jared Patterson will be holding a Boys Middle School and High School Basketball Camp for young men in the 6th grade through 12th grade starting Tuesday, May 30th lasting through Thursday, June 1st. The 6th grade through 8th grade camp will be held from 4:00 until 5:30 during the afternoon at the Salem Upper Elementary Gym followed by the freshman through senior high school camp from 6:00 until 8:00 in the evening. The cost is $30 per child and each camper will also get a T-shirt. Signups for the camp will be due by May 30th. Paul DeJong hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs, but the St. Louis Cardinals lost to the Cincinnati Reds in 10 innings, 6-5. The Cards will be in Cincinnati again today to face the Reds at 4:45 on KSMO.
St. Louis Cardinal 2nd baseman Nolan Gorman was named the National League “Player of the Week” for last week. The 23-year-old Gorman hit .458 (11-for-24) with four homers, one double, 11 RBI, five runs scored, a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .519 on-base percentage in six games played last week.
The Detroit Tigers scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning to beat Kansas City Monday, 8-5. The Royals and Tigers play again tonight.

The Salem Tiger Tennis Doubles Team of Gunner Konkel and Logan Hubbs lost to the team of Evan Thomas Heftye and Noah Keller Gould from Savannah Friday in two straight sets. They then lost to the Trenton team in the consolation bracket. Congratulations on a great year!
Oscar Mercado had three hits and five RBI to help lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 10-5 win over the LA Dodgers on Sunday, as the Cards took three of four games from the Dodgers. Paul DeJong hit a three-run homer in the game as St. Louis scored 32 runs in the four games with Los Angeles. The Cardinal went 5-2 on the homestand. They will be in Cincinnati to start a four game series tonight at 4:45 on KSMO.
The Kansas City Royals bats went to sleep as they scored only three runs in three games as they were swept by the Chicago White Sox, losing on Sunday by the score of 5-2. The Royals will return to Kaufmann Stadium to face the Detroit Tigers in a three-game series starting tonight.

The Salem Tiger Tennis Doubles Team of Gunner Konkel and Logan Hubbs will face the team of Evan Thomas Heftye and Noah Keller Gould from Savannah today in the Tennis State Sectionals in Springfield at the Cooper Tennis Complex. Admission to the center is $10 and is online ONLY. The winner will move onto the quarterfinals also to be played today.
St. Louis hit seven home runs including two 3-run homers by Willson Contreras and two home runs by Nolan Gorman as the Cards beat the LA Dodgers, 16-8. St. Louis had back-to-back-to-back homers in the 3rd inning from Juan Yepez, Nolan Gorman and Paul DeJong. The Cards play the Dodgers tonight at 6:20 on KSMO.
The Kansas City Royals who had Thursday off, will play the Chicago White Sox this weekend starting tonight in Chicago.
