Dylan Carlson hit a two-run homer followed by a solo shot by Paul Goldschmidt to help propel Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals to a 6-0 win over the Chicago Cubs Tuesday night. Wainwright pitched seven shutout innings giving up six hits. Lars Nootbaar went 3-3 and Nolan Arenado also homered for St. Louis who will host the Chicago Cubs tonight at Busch Stadium at 5:50. The St. Louis Cardinals announced that Tuesday they have acquired left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery from the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder Harrison Bader. The Cardinals also announced Monday night that they acquired veteran left-handed pitcher José Quintana and right-handed reliever Chris Stratton from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for right-handed pitcher Johan Oviedo and minor league infielder Malcom Nunez.

The Chicago White Sox scored eight runs off Brad Keller in five innings and cruised to a 9-2 win over the Kansas City Royals. The White Sox banged out 14 hits in the win, evening the series at a game apiece. The Royals and White Sox tangle again tonight in Chicago.

On Tuesday, Kansas City traded long-time Royal Witt Merrifield to the Toronto Blue Jays for infielder-outfielder Samad Taylor and pitcher Max Castillo. The Royals also traded Andrew Benintendi last week to the New York Yankees for three minor league pitchers: Chandler Champlain, Beck Way and TJ Sikkema.
