The St. Louis Cardinals could not solve rookie Javier Assad and lost the first game of the day-night doubleheader to Chicago, 2-0; but the bats came alive in the second game as Tommy Edman had two hits including a homer and three RBI, and Jake Woodford went 5 1/3rd innings giving up just one run as the Cardinals beat the Cubs, 13-3. Tyler O’Neill, and Nolan Arenado also homered in the game. Arenado finished with three hits and Corey Dickerson had a four-hit night as the Cards and Cubs play again at 6:10 tonight on KSMO Radio.

Bobby Witt, Jr. hit a homer and a triple, but a late surge by Arizona led them to a 7-3 win over Kansas City Tuesday night. Jonathan Heasley pitched 4 1/3rd scoreless innings for Kansas City, but the other Royals pitchers weren’t as fortunate. The Royals and Diamondbacks play tonight at Kaufmann Stadium.
