The Salem Football Tigers opened the season with a tremendous effort at St. James totally dominating the game on offense and defense coming away with a 32-6 win. Garrett Connell ran for two touchdowns and threw for another to Carter Chilton, while Jimmy Barton also scored twice for Salem in the game. Caden Camden ran the ball 17 times for 145 yards to lead the Salem ground attack that finished with a total of 295 yards rushing. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers opened their season Friday with a 6-4 loss in nine innings to East Carter. Six errors in the game by Salem led to five unearned runs for East Carter. Salem had the winning run on 3rd base with no one out in the 7th inning but couldn’t score. Denise Stoner had three hits for the Lady Tigers who are 0-1 on the year. Salem will be at St. James tomorrow at 4:30.

The Salem JV Lady Softball Tigers lost, 4-3 in three innings to East Carter Friday. Grace Kunkel went 2-2 for Salem in the game. They will also play tomorrow at St. James.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Game with St. James scheduled for tonight has been moved to Wednesday night at the St. James Middle School due to damage to their gymnasium floor. The match begins at 5:30 with the JV with the varsity to follow.

Kolton Wong tripled in a run and scored another as Adam Wainwright went seven shutout innings in the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 win over San Francisco Monday. The win comes after the Cards took three of four games from Cincinnati over the weekend. The Red Birds and Giants play again tonight starting at 5:50 on KSMO.

The Kansas City Royals had Labor Day off after taking two of three games from Baltimore over the weekend. The Royals start a three game series with the Detroit Tigers tonight at Kaufmann Stadium.

The Missouri Football Tigers started fast against Wyoming jumping out to a 14-0 lead, but three turnovers later and sloppy defense allowed the Cowboys to rally for a 37-31 win over the Tigers in the season opener. Missouri will play at home Saturday against West Virginia in a game that starts at 11:00 on KSMO Radio.
