The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers lost last night in their season opener in Winona in three straight sets: 17 ‑ 25, 10 ‑ 25 and 17 ‑ 25. The Lady Tigers open their home season tonight against the St. James Lady Tigers starting at 5:30 with the JV game with the varsity match to follow. Paul DeJong hit a grand slam to back the pitching of Dakota Hudson as he went seven innings and gave up just two runs on four hits as the Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds Monday, 7-5. Paul Goldschmidt went 3-3 and was on base all five times he batted in the game. Giovanny Gallegos got his second save. Kolton Wong, Tommy Edman and DeJong each had two hits for St. Louis who will play the Reds again today at 4:45 on KSMO Radio.

Maikel Franco’s single in the bottom of the 8th inning tied the game before Bubba Starling’s single drove in the winning run as the Kansas City Royals came back to beat Cleveland last night, 2-1 in Kansas City. Scott Barlow got the win and Greg Holland picked up the save.
The Royals will play Cleveland again tonight in Kansas City.
