Congratulations to Brennen Meloy of the Bunker Eagles for being named the MBCA Class 1 Boys All-State Player of the Year! Meloy and teammate Owen Sanders were named to the Class 1 All-State team with Coach Rod Gorman being named the MBCA Class 1 Coach of the Year! For the Lady Eagles, Kinsey Barton was named to the Class 1 All-State Team! Congratulations to these players for their special recognition and to both the boys’ and girls’ teams on a magical season!
Two Salem Basketball Tigers were named to the Class 4, District 3 All-District team. Braiden Gapsch and Gavin Sapaugh were selected to the team from their outstanding district play. St. James players Tate Gruver, Isaac Smith and Aiden Boone were also named to the Class 4, District 3 team with Gruver being named District Player of the Year and St. James Coach Ben Smith named as the District Coach of the Year. Congratulations on these students for their fine achievements.
Hayden Ragsdale and Aaron White each had two hits and Wayne Skidmore pitched four solid innings as the Salem Baseball Tigers beat Steelville Monday, 11-3 at the SHS Baseball Field Complex. Ragsdale also finished with two RBI as the Tigers got their first win of the year and are 1-2 on the season. Salem will be at Ellington for a varsity only game Thursday starting at 5:45 and the game will be audio streamed on KSMO Media until the Cards game is finished at which time the contest will also be carried on KSMO Radio.
The Salem Lady Softball Tigers open their season at Ellington against the Lady Whippets and it will be head coach Jim Moore’s Salem debut. Ellington is 1-0 on the year and the game will begin at 4:30.
The Salem Tennis Team will begin their season with a match today at Licking starting at 4:00.
The Salem Boys and Girls Track Teams will be at Fredericktown for a practice meet starting at 3:00.
After a 1-2 road trip the St. Louis Blues are looking to get within a game of a .500 record. To do so, they’ll have to pick up a win tonight on home ice versus the 35-27-9 Washington Capitals.
