Just prior to their game against the New York Yankees news broke that the St. Louis Cardinals traded $250,000 of international bonus pool money to the Cincinnati Reds for Caleb Ferguson. Then Lars Nootbaar was sent to the Arizona Diamondbacks for two prospects, Daniel Eagen and Sandro Santana. The Red Birds’ front office wasn’t done, they sent Dustin May and JoJo Romero to the Milwaukee Brewers for two prospects in return, Alexander Frias and Josiah Ragsdale. In their game against the Yankees, Alec Burleson had two home runs and four RBIs early on helping the Cardinals get a 6-0 lead by the fourth. But the Yankees weren’t going quietly and hit five homers for seven runs by the seventh. Down one, Nathan Church hit his ninth home run of the season for a three-run homer. Shortly thereafter, Jimmy Crooks and Alec Burleson each hit a two-run home run putting the Cards up by six after eight. The score would remain at 13-7 for the remainder of the game and the Cardinals are now just one win away from .500. Game two of this series is live tonight on KSMO Radio, 1340 AM &95.7 FM, with pregame coverage starting at 5:10 in the afternoon.
