According to a news release from John McCulloch, superintendent of the Salem R-80 school district, Salem High School assistant volleyball Coach Kristi Steelman has been named interim head volleyball coach and Kristy Bermudez has been named assistant volleyball coach for the remainder of the 2019 season. The release stated that the move was made by the administration who felt the volleyball program needed to move in a different direction for the remainder of the season. Dale “Rocky” Sandlin Jr. was hired in May to be the head volleyball coach. He was relieved of his head coaching duties before the Lady Tigers match with Eminence Tuesday. No detailed information was offered about Sandlin’s departure.

The Salem Cross Country Team will participate in their first meet of the year today: the Steve Waggoner Invitational in Willow Springs. The meet begins at 4:00.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will host Vienna at 5:00 today at the Salem City Park. Salem goes into the game with a 4-1 record. You can hear the game on ksmoradio.com and also on KSMO Radio once the Cards game is over.

Ian Desmond’s 6th inning home run was the difference as Colorado hung on to beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 2-1 for the second straight game in Colorado. The Cards and Rockies play a matinee game starting at 1:15 on KSMO starting with the pre-game show.

Jorge Soler smashed two home runs and finsihed with four RBI as Kansas City beat the Chicago White Sox, 8-5 in Chicago. Ryan O’Hearn and Bubba Starling also homered for the Royals who will play the White Sox this afternoon.
