Nate Bray struck out 12 and gave up three hits in going the distance in the Salem 9-1 win Wednesday over Willow Springs. Bray also had two hits, scored two runs and drive in another. Lawson Toman went 3-3 and score four times, and Jordan Shults went 2-4 with four RBI. Salem is now 9-10 on the year finish 5-2 in the SCA. The Salem Golf Team finished 9th in the district golf tournament held at the Sullivan Country Club shooting a 537. Matt Russell was the top Salem golfer and finished 41 shots over par in 27th place.

Carlos Martinez hit his first major league home run and also threw 7 1/3 effective innings to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. Martinez allowed one run on five hits and left with a 3-0 lead. He struck out five and walked two. Dexter Fowler added a two-run homer for the Cardinals, the 100th of his major league career, as St. Louis won their second game in a row. Yadier Molina had two hits for the Cardinals. The Red Birds with the back-to-back wins jumped back into a tie for 1st place with Milwaukee. The Cardinals are off today before hosting the Chicago Cubs over the weekend.

Mookie Betts belted three solo homers and J.D. Martinez also went deep, powering the Boston Red Sox to a 5-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. Cheslor Cuthbert homered for Kansas City, and Drew Butera had a two-run double. The Royals were trying for consecutive wins for just the second time this season. Kansas City returns home to start a four game series with Detroit this afternoon at Kaufmann Stadium.

The Kids Free Fishing Day will be this Saturday at Montauk State Park. Children who are 15 years of age and under can pick up their required free fishing tag at the registration booth near the fish cleaning station from 5:00-8:00 Friday night or all day on Saturday.
