The St. Louis Cardinals and the Colorado Rockies played their series deciding game yesterday. Pedro Pages doubled in the second bringing home the first two runs of the game. Later in the fourth a Lars Nootbaar home run put the Cards up by three but the Rockies began a rally in the fourth scoring at least one run in five of the remaining six innings. By the end of the game the Rockies scored six runs on twelve hits while the Cardinals managed five runs on nine hits. The Cardinals, now back to a .500 record, have the day off today.

The Kansas City Royals attempted the sweep of the Washington Nationals yesterday but it was an uphill battle as the Nationals’ Nathaniel Lowe hit a grand slam in the top of the first. By the time the first Royals batter stepped into the batter’s box the Royals were already down by five. A Vinnie Pasquantino home run in the fourth brought the Royals within a run and a Bobby Witt Jr. sacrifice flyout allowed Tyler Tolbert to score tying up the game at seven a piece. Then in the top of the ninth Washington broke the tie and held on for the 8-7 win, avoiding the KC sweep.
