The Ava Bears scored on the first play from scrimmage and scored 22 points in the 1st quarter and 22 more in the 2nd quarter to build a 44-0 lead at half, then hold to beat the Salem Tigers, 44-16. Bradlee Gover scored on a 44 yard pass from Garrett Connell, and Eli Newman scored on a 40-yard pass from Gover. Salem is 3-2 on the year and 1-2 in the SCA and they will be home to face the Willow Springs Bears Friday night at 7:00.

The Salem JV Football Team will be at Ava tonight at 6:00. They are 3-1 on the year.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers captured their second tournament championship in two weekends as the won the St. James Tournament Saturday as they beat St. Clair first by the score of 8-3, then they beat Newburg, 18-1. They won the championship when the blasted St. James by the score of 17-0. Salem is now 14-2 on the year. They will host Willow Springs tomorrow.

The Salem Varsity Volleyball girls won their first match Thursday against Thayer in three games. The JV was also victorious. Salem is 1-9-2 on the year and they will be at St. Clair tonight starting at 5:00.

The St. Louis Cardinals are the National League Central Division Champs as they beat Chicago Sunday, 9-0. They will face Atlanta in the first round of the playoffs Thursday at a time to be determined. Paul Goldschmidt, Dexter Fowler and Matt Carpenter all homered for the Cardinals Sunday who finished the year 91-71.

The Kansas City Royals got a walk off 6-5 win over Minnesota Sunday in Ned Yost’s last game as their manager as he is retiring. The Royals finished the year 59-103.

A Darrell Williams touchdown run with 20 second left gave the Kansas City Chiefs a come-from-behind win over the Detroit Lions Sunday, 34-30. A Brashaud Breeland fumble recovery and return of 100 yards broke a 13-13 halftime tie. The Chiefs are 4-0 on the year.
