The Salem Football Tigers fell to the Ava Bears on Friday with a score of 22-14 as Ava scored with 2 seconds to go in the game. The next game will be Friday in Willow Springs.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers traveled to St. James on Saturday to win the St. James Softball Tournament. They beat St. Clair 5-1, Newburg 23-2 then St. James 5-2. Three Salem players made the tournament all-team, congratulations to Chloe Bonner, Ashton Bowers and Andrea Bray.

On Saturday, the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Brewers 9-1 in the second game to earn a split in their doubleheader against Milwaukee in St. Louis. Tommy Edman hit a two-run homer, while Dylan Carlson and Matt Wieters each drove in a pair. Daniel Ponce de Leon threw six-innings of one-run ball to pick up his first win of the season. In the first game, Christian Yelich homered as the Brewers beat the Cardinals 3-0. Eric Sogard had a run-scoring single and Arcia had an RBI groundout in the second. Devin Williams picked up his fourth win in relief while Josh Hader nailed down his 12th save. Paul Goldschmidt had his 13th double of the season, which was the only extra-base hit for St. Louis in the first game. Jack Flaherty took the loss to fall to 4-and-3.

The Mizzou Football Tigers fell to Alabama Crimson Tide 38-19 in the season opener at Faurot Field. Alabama scored the game’s first 21 points in the opening 15 minutes. It was a tough start for new head coach Eli Drinkwitz who had to face Nick Saban and the second ranked Tide in the revised ten-game schedule.

The Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers with a score of 3-2 on Saturday.The Royals have won three in a row. The Tigers have lost eight of nine.

With a 5-2 victory of the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, the Cardinals are headed to post season. Harrison Bader lead the team in scoring with a triple and a towering solo home run that hits Fredbird’s painting in the third deck. Adam Wainwright strikes out three and allows just three runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 strong innings of work.
