Bailey Hurst returned a kickoff 91-yards for a touchdown, then ran for a 40-yard score in the second half as Houston beat the Salem Tigers for the first time in 40 years, 20-13. Devin Atchison and Jimmy Barton scored for Salem. The game turned when Brody McNew caught a pass from Houston quarterback Wyatt Hughes near the 20-yard line as time expired in the half, and then escaped two Salem defenders to score with no time on the clock to give Houston a 14-13 lead at halftime. Salem falls to 0-2 while Houston improved to 2-1. Salem will host the Thayer Bobcats in SCA play Friday night at 7:00 at the SHS Football Field. Former Salem High School Football Coach Bill Schuchardt will be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday morning, October 11th, at 11:00 at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds. Schuchardt coached Salem for 32 years and compiled a record of 255-91. Although Salem did not win a state title, they played in the state championship game twice, won 16 district titles and 14 SCA Championships. Congratulations Schu!

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers beat Alton on Friday, 14-4 to improve to 2-1 on the year. They will play today at Waynesville against the Lady Tigers starting at 4:30. On Tuesday, the Lady Tigers have added a game with Belle that will be held at Belle starting at 5:00.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will host the West Plains Lady Zizzers starting with the JV match at 5:30 followed by the varsity contest. The Kentucky Wildcats finished with 520 yards of offense that included 341 rushing yards as they broke a 28-28 tie with just over seven minutes left to beat Missouri on an eight-yard run by Chris Rodriguez, 35-28. Conner Bazelak was 34-51 passing for 294 yards and four touchdowns for Missouri as they fall to 1-1 on the year and 0-1 in the SEC Conference. They will play Southeast Missouri State Saturday morning at 11:00.

Nolan Arenado’s two-run homer in the 1st inning was all the scoring in the game as the St. Louis Cardinals shutout the Cincinnati Reds Sunday, 2-0 to take two of three games in the series. Five Cardinal pitchers gave up only five hits in the game to allow the Cardinals to close to within one game of the Reds and Padres for the final wild card slot. The Cardinals play the New York Mets tonight starting at 5:15 on KSMO.

The Royals beat the Minnesota Sunday, 5-3 to take two of three from the Twins over the weekend. Kansas City will have tonight off before hosting Cleveland Tuesday night.

The Kansas City Chiefs trailed 29-20 in the 4th quarter when they scored two touchdowns in 3:04 to come back and beat the Cleveland Browns Sunday, 33-29. Patrick Mahomes was 27-36 for 337 yards and three touchdowns. The Chiefs will play at Baltimore next Sunday night.
