The Salem Football Tigers and Houston Football Tigers battled to a scoreless defensive battle Friday night at the Salem high School football Field in regulation time. In overtime, Chandler Gray scored for Salem on a three-yard run and Nick Holliday added the point after for a 7-0 lead. The Salem defense was able to shut down the Houston offense on their possession and Salem earned a 7-0 win to put them at 2-1 on the season, and 1-0 in the SCA Conference. Salem only had 153 yards in offense in the game while Houston finished with 83 yards, getting only 21 yards in the second half and overtime. Houston had four turnovers compared to Salem who only had one. Salem will be on the road at Thayer Friday night at 7:00 in another SCA Conference battle.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will host Waynesville this afternoon at 4:30 at the Salem City Park Field. Salem is 0-4 on the year. You can hear the game on KSMO & ksmoradio.com.

On Thursday, the Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers varsity won their second match of the season as they defeated Bunker in two straight games: 25-17 and 25-14. The JV was also victorious as they won in two straight games: 25-14 and 25-5. The Salem Varsity is now 2-2 on the year. They will travel to West Plains tonight with the JV games at 6:00 with the varsity match to follow.

Missouri quarterback Drew Lock threw four TD passes and ran for another TD as the Tigers won 40-13 on Saturday night. The senior QB completing 33 of 45 passes for 398 yards. He added a career-high 51 rushing yards, which was almost half of his total for all of last season. Missouri (2-0) scored on its first four possession of the second half to put the game out of reach. They will play Purdue this Saturday starting after Cards baseball on KSMO at about 4:30.

The St. Louis Cardinals offense was anemic until a squirrel came on the field in Detroit in the 7th inning and the Cards scored five runs that inning while John Gant pitched effectively into the seventh inning and gave the St. Louis Cardinals a 5-2 win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday. Kolten Wong, Carson Kelly and Jose Martinez all had RBI singles in that inning. The Cardinals will host Pittsburgh tonight at 6:20 on KSMO with Adam Wainwright getting the start for St. Louis.

Willians Astudillo hit a two-out, two-run homer off Jason Hammel (2-13) with two outs in the Twins bottom of the ninth inning that gave the Minnesota Twins a 3-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. Adalberto Mondesi homered for the Royals, who were held to three hits on the day. The Royals open a three game series against the White Sox tonight.

Tyreek Hill scored three touchdowns, Patrick Mahomes passed for his first four NFL scores and the Kansas City Chiefs opened the season with a 38-28 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Hill had a 91-yard punt return for a score and a 58-yard TD reception during the first quarter before adding a 1-yard reception for a score in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. The Chiefs will be at Pittsburgh next Sunday.
