The Salem Football Tigers fell to the Willow Springs Bears Friday night by the score of 28-27 at Palenske Field in SCA Conference play. Jake Gover had 11 carries for 118 yards and two touchdowns, and Brody Ray ran the ball eight times for 79 yards and a score. Sylis Dubois had the other Salem touchdown, but the Tigers failed on a two-point conversion try in the 3rd quarter which ended up being the difference in the game. Salem is 1-5 on the year and 0-4 in the SCA Conference. The Tigers will be at Mountain Grove to face the Panthers Friday night at 7:00.
The Salem JV Football Tigers will be at Willow Springs Monday starting at 6:00.
The Salem 7th Grade Football Tigers beat the 7th Grade Cabool Bulldogs last Thursday, 32-12 to even their record at 2-2. The Salem 8th Grade Football Team beat the Cabool 8th graders, 32-8 to go to 3-1 on the year. The 7th and 8th Grade Tiger teams will be at Houston Thursday starting at 5:30.
On Saturday at Houston at the Invitational Tournament, the Salem Lady Volleyball Varsity Tigers went 2-2-2 with wins over Houston and Mansfield by the scores of 26-24 and 25-18 over Houston, as well as 25-16 and 25-12 over Mansfield. The Lady Tigers also tied two matches, winning 25-17 but also falling 23-25 to Ellington, while Salem lost to Conway, 24-26 before winning the second set, 25-20. Salem lost to Mountain Grove, 16-25 and 19-25, and then fell in three sets to Lesterville: losing 13-25, winning 25-14, before falling in their final set of the night, 14-25. Salem is 13-13-3 on the year. The Lady Volleyball Tigers will host the Bunker Lady Eagles tonight starting with the varsity match at 5:30 with the JV match to follow. After building a 20-10 halftime lead, Missouri exploded for the next 25 points and beat Florida Saturday at the Mizzou Homecoming, 45-17. Jamal Roberts ran the ball 24 times for 211 yards and three touchdowns, while Quarterback Austin Simmons was 23 of 30 passing for 340 yards and threw two touchdowns passes to help lead the Tigers who will host Texas A&M Saturday morning at 11:00. That game can be heard on KSMO Radio.
Joel Hofer made 25 saves in the first season-opening start of his NHL career Friday night, a 4-0 win for the St. Louis Blues against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center. Mason McTavish scored in his debut for St. Louis, while Jimmy Snuggerud and Pius Suter each had a goal and an assist. Dalibor Dvorsky scored the other Blues goal. On Saturday, Martin Necas scored two goals and had an assist, and the Colorado Avalanche beat St. Louis 6-1 at Ball Arena. Dalibor Dvorsky had the only Blues goal. The Blues will be at Chicago Tuesday night starting at 6:30 on KSMO Radio.
