The St. James Tigers took advantage of seven Salem Tiger errors and five walks while adding 11 hits en route to a 14-3 five-inning win over Salem in the first round of District play Saturday at Sullivan. Andrew Branson went 4-4 for St. James and scored four times while Drew Bouse pitched 3 2/3rds scoreless innings and finished with four RBI including a bases loaded double that cleared the bases in a 7-run 3rd inning. Salem was limited to five hits in the game. Salem finished the season with a 9-12 record.

The 2018 Salem Tiger Boys Basketball Camp will be held Tuesday, May 22nd, Wednesday, May 23rd and Thursday, May 24th at the Salem High School Gym. The cost is $30 and that includes a camp T-Shirt. The camp for boys in the 5th through 8th grade will be held from 3:30 to 5:30, and the camp for those in 9th grade through the 12th grade will be from 1:00 until 3:00. Join the Salem High School coaching staff and work on improving your fundamentals of basketball. Registration forms are available from Coach Conrad Prugh. The form and money for the camp can be collected on the first day of camp, but to ensure that participants receive their T-Shirt, e-mail Coach Prugh by this Friday, May 18th with the appropriate shirt size from youth medium, through XXL. The San Diego Padres beat the struggling Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 on Sunday to salvage a split of their four-game series. Wainwright waked six batters, struck out three and gave up three its and two runs in 2 2/3rds innings. The Cardinals will be off today.

Corey Kluber became the American League’s first six-game winner and the Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals 11-2 on Sunday. Kluber gave up two unearned runs in seven innings, scattering eight hits. Danny Duffy allowed nine runs in 3 1-3 innings to fall to 1-5 on the year. The Royals will host Tampa Bay tonight.
