Kolten Wong’s eighth inning over the shoulder catch finished a 126-pitch day for Adam Wainwright who held the Cubs scoreless on two hits en route to his 5th win of the year and a 2-1 win for the St. Louis Cardinals who swept the Chicago Cubs in the weekend series at Busch Stadium. Wainwright walked seven and struck out eight. Matt Carpenter’s RBI single in the 8th inning proved to be the difference after Chicago scored a run in the top of the 9th inning. The Cards beat Chicago on a Matt Carpenter walk off single in the bottom of the 10th inning Friday night, and St. Louis outlasted the Cubs Saturday after a three hour and 37 minute rain delay, 7-4. The Cards will have the day off today.

Texas right-hander Adrian Sampson was sharp from the beginning going seven innings and striking out 11 while earning his fourth straight victory as the Rangers beat the Kansas City Royals, 5-1 Sunday at Globe Life Park. The Rangers ended up taking three of four from the Royals over the weekend. Kansas City will have the today off before they will host the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday in a three game series.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Boston Bruins tonight in game 4 of the best-of-seven series at 6:30 on KSMO Radio. The Bruins scored three goals in the 1st period Saturday night and built a 4-0 lead before the Blues would score, with Boston winning the game, 7-2. The Bruins lead the series, two games to one.
