The Salem Football Tigers opened their regular season with a 27-2 win over the St. James Tigers Friday night at the SHS Field. Devin Atchison rushed one-yard for a touchdown and caught a one-yard pass for another, both in the 1st quarter. Kaden Camden ran for a touchdown from four yards out in the 2nd quarter and Bradlee Gover caught a nine-yard pass from Garrett Connell for the 4th Salem score in the 4th quarter. St. James only points came on a bad snap on a punt in the end zone that Connell kicked out of bounds. Camden ran the ball 15 times for 95 yards to lead all rushers while Connell was 8 of 11 passing for 106 yards and two touchdowns. The Tigers will be at St. Clair Friday at 7:00. For those planning to attend the game, St. Clair is using a voucher system to allow entry into the stadium. You will need to contact the high school to find out more information at 729-6641.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers open their regular season tonight at Winona with the JV game beginning at 5:30 followed by the varsity match. The Lady Tigers will be home tomorrow night to face the St. James Lady Tigers starting at 5:30 with the JV game with the varsity match to follow.

The Salem Lady Tiger Softball games this week with St. James and Alton have been postponed. The game with St. James will be made up on October 6th in Salem. No make up date has yet been announced for the game with Alton.

Adam Wainwright pitched a complete game giving up four hits and two runs as the Cardinals stopped their five game losing streak beating Cleveland, 7-2. Dexter Fowler and Dylan Carlson each doubled home two runs and Fowler later added a homer in the game. St. Louis will be at Cincinnati tonight at 4:45 on KSMO Radio.

Luis Robert’s three run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning gave the Chicago White Sox a 5-2 win in the rubber game of the three game series. The Royals will be home tonight to face the Cleveland Indians in a three game series.
