The St. Louis Cardinals acquired two veteran pitchers at the trade deadline Friday. The Cardinals traded pitcher John Gant and minor league left-handed pitcher Evan Sisk to Minnesota for left-handed pitcher J.A. Happ and cash considerations. The Cardinals then acquired left-handed pitcher John Lester from the Washington Nationals for outfielder Lane Thomas.

Adam Wainwright went seven strong innings giving up three runs as the St. Louis Cardinals had three hits from Dylan Carlson and Edmundo Sosa including a homer as they beat Minnesota Sunday, 7-3. The Cards took two of three games in the series and are off tonight.

Kansas City was also busy at the trade deadline as they sent left-handed pitcher Danny Duffy to the LA Dodgers for cash and a player to be named later, and Jorge Soler was sent to Atlanta for minor league pitcher Kasey Kalich.

Brad Keller left early in the 3rd inning after giving up three runs and the Royals were swept in the three-game series by the Toronto Blue Jays, losing Sunday, 5-1. Friday night, Kansas City lost 6-4 and then were shutout Saturday, 4-0. The Royals will have the day off today before starting a series with the Chicago White Sox Tuesday.
