Chandler Gray scored three touchdowns: two on rushes and another on an interception late in the 1st half as the Salem Tigers hung on to beat St. James, 24-20 Friday night. Nick Holliday booted a 47-yard field goal late in the first half. Gray finished the night with 15 rushes for 120 yards and Sam Ball ran the ball seven times for 110 yards. St. James was led by Tyler Recker who had 19 rushes for 120 yards and a touchdown. St. James’ quarterback Tate Whitener was 11-25 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions for 174 yards. Salem improves to 1-0 and will be in Dexter Friday night.

The Salem Lady Tigers lost to East Carter in the season opener Friday, 4-2 at East Carter. They will host St. James this afternoon at 4:30 at the Salem City Park Field. You can hear the game on KSMO radio starting at 4:15 with Tiger Talk.

Matt Carpenter had four doubles in the game and the St. Louis Cardinals scored six times in the 1st inning and four more in the 3rd inning en route to a 12-3 win over Colorado Sunday to ensure their 9th straight series win. The Cards will be off today.

Jason Kipnis hit an inside-the-park homer and finished with four RBIs, Edwin Encarnacion added a two-run shot and the Cleveland Indians beat the Kansas City Royals 12-5 Sunday to snap a four-game skid. The Royals will be off to today before playing Detroit Tuesday.

Backup quarterback Chase Daniel directed touchdown drives on the first three possessions as the Chicago Bears defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 27-20 on Saturday. The Chiefs are 1-2.
