The St. Louis Cardinals were left devastated yesterday afternoon after being swept by the Phillies in their three game series. On Friday, the Cardinals and Phillies found themselves in extra innings after they each scored five runs after nine. In the bottom of the tenth, a walk off triple concluded the 7-6 loss for the Red Birds. Saturday’s game was one to forget as the Phillies scored twelve runs on fifteen hits to defeat the Cardinals, 12-3. Yesterday afternoon, it looked like the Cardinals would avoid the sweep leading the game 4-0 going into the bottom of the ninth. Down to their last out, the Phillies hit a three-run double, a one-run single, and then a walk off two-run home run for the shocking 6-4 final. The Cardinals have the day off today before starting a three-game home series against the Baltimore Orioles tomorrow evening.
