The St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees played a three game series in Busch Stadium this weekend. The Yankees got off to a strong start in game one scoring three runs in the first. A Masyn Winn double in the sixth brought Lars Nootbaar home to get the Cards on the board. Then a Victor Scott double and wild pitch in the seventh allowed two more Cardinal runs. However the Yankees held off the rally for a 4-3 win. Game two only saw two innings without a run scored by either team as they combined for 27 hits and six home runs. The Yankees took the game, 12-8. Yesterday afternoon scoring started in the fourth inning when New York brought in a trio of runs. The Cardinals responded when Thomas Saggese doubled for two RBIs. A Yohel Pozo solo home run in the sixth gave the the Cards their first lead of the game. Later in the ninth, New York regained the lead and finish off the Cardinals, 8-4. The Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox played a three game series over the weekend. During Friday’s game Salvador Perez hit twice on three at-bats hit a home run and recorded an RBI, helping the Royals win, 3-1. Saturday, the Royals scored at least one run in five of the first six innings. John Rave and Mike Yasterzemski each hit a home run in the game for a 6-2 win. Yesterday the White Sox got out to a 2-0 lead before Jonathan India hit a two-run home run to tie the game up in the seventh. In the eighth the Royals would score four more runs, capped off by a Adam Frazier homer giving the Royals a 6-2 victory and series sweep. The Texas Rangers will be in Kansas City tonight to face the Royals at 6:40.
The Kansas City Chiefs played the Seattle Seahawks this past Friday in week two of the NFL preseason. While the Seahawks decided to use this game to warm up some of their starters, Kansas City prioritized depth chart evaluations. Gardner Minshew, the likely candidate to backup Patrick Mahomes this season, completed 7 of his 9 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown pass. Seattle won the game 33-16, and Kansas City will finish up their preseason next Friday night as they’ll host the Bears.
