The Salem Tiger Tennis Team Thursday traveled to Willow Springs for matches with the Bears, as well as the Houston Tigers. After Willow Springs beat Houston, 8-1 in the first match, the Salem Tennis Tigers played Houston and also beat them, 8-1. In the final match of a full day of tennis, which featured a three-hour rain delay, Salem edged past the Willow Springs Bears, 5-4. The Tigers are 5-0 on the year, and they will be at Waynesville today to face the Tigers starting at 4:00. Waynesville is 5-2 on the year.
The Salem Baseball Tigers will host Ava today in each teams first SCA Conference game of the year at the SHS Baseball Field Complex starting at 4:30. Salem is 2-4 on the year and Ava comes into the game with a 4-4 record. That game can be heard on KSMO Radio (AM 130 and FM 95.7) and video streamed on KSMO Media (ksmoradio.com, the KSMO Stream Facebook Page and KSMO YouTube Page) starting around 4:15 with Tiger Talk and Coach Tony Edwards.
The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will be at Houston today for an SCA Conference game against the Lady Tigers starting at 4:30. Salem enters the game with a 4-3 overall record and 0-1 in the SCA Conference.
The Owensville Middle School Open will be held today for middle school track and field participants from the Dent County Schools. According to the MSHSAA website, the girls competition will be at 4:00 and the boys at a time to be determined.
The Cardinals were able to avoid the sweep in their first series loss of the season against the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers issued the Cardinals their first shutout on Friday, 4-0. Saturday afternoon the Cardinals scored six runs on the day that included a Jordan Walker grand slam home run! However Detroit managed eleven runs on twelve hits for the 11-6 victory over St. Louis. Last night, Iván Herrera’s two-run single in the top of the fifth was the deciding play for the 5-3 Cardinal win. Tonight the Cardinals will be in our nation’s capital to face the Nationals. The St. Louis Blues were in Denver last night facing the league leading Avalanche. In a very close game throughout, the Blues and Avalanche found themselves tied up at two going into the third period when, with just under three minutes to go, Robert Thomas scored his third goal of the night as the Blues upset the Avalanche 3-2.
