Christian Yelich hit his fourth homer in the first inning and a two-run double in the ninth, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a dramatic 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. Yelich began by hitting a homer in the 1st inning, tying the major league record for homers in consecutive games to start a season. He also became the first player to win the MVP award and then homer in his first four games of the next season. The Cardinals got solo homers from Matt Carpenter, Paul Goldschmidt and a two-run homer from Paul DeJong. The Cardinals will be at Pittsburgh this morning to face the Pirates starting at 11:10 on KSMO. St. Louis is 1-3 to start the season.

Lucas Giolito took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning in his first start of the season, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Kansas City Royals 6-3 on Sunday to avoid a three-game sweep in the season-opening series. Alex Gordon’s single with one out in the seventh ruined the no-hitter and that was followed by double by Ryan O’Hearn that drove in Gordon, and Lucas Duda chased Giolito with an RBI single. The Royals will have the day off today.

Defenseman Vince Dunn scored on a solo dash in close with 2.8 seconds left in overtime and the St. Louis Blues beat New Jersey 3-2 on Saturday night for their 11th straight victory over the Devils. Robert Thomas and Tyler Bozak also scored for the Blues, and Jake Allen made 25 saves. St Louis is 27-10-4 since the turn of the year and clinched a playoff spot on Friday night even though they lost to the New York Rangers, 4-2.
