The Thayer Lady Bobcats got out to a five run lead over the Lady Softball Tigers yesterday afternoon before Shaylee Thomas batted in Josie Bowers to get Salem on the board late in the sixth. With a scoreless seventh inning the Lady Tigers fell 5-1. Notably Raven Gillam had two hits with three at bats and Isabel Thomas tallied a hit to round out the Lady Tiger offense. Alaina Norris shouldered the pitching for the day and added nine strikeouts to her pitching career. The girls hit the road today as they’ll be in Cadet to face the Kingston Lady Cougars. Varsity play will begin at 4:30 this afternoon with a JV game scheduled to follow.
The Salem Baseball Classic continues today and the Salem Tigers will be in action for the first time during the tournament against the Licking Wildcats in Pool “B” play. Their game starts at 11:30 this morning. The last time the Tigers and Wildcats got together, it was the last day of March, and Salem fell at Licking, 6-2.
For the second time in three games the St. Louis Cardinals brought home double digit runs against the Pittsburgh Pirates and secured a four game sweep yesterday afternoon with a final score of 10-5. The Cardinals return home today to host a three game series against the Dodgers starting with game one at 7:15 tonight. KSMO Radio 1340 AM & 95.7 FM will begin their coverage live at 6:20 this evening. The Cardinals will conclude the three game series over the weekend.
