It is opening day for Salem High School sports as the Salem Lady Softball Tigers will be on the road at East Carter this afternoon starting at 4:30.

The Salem Football Tigers will host the St. James Tigers in a non–conference game tonight starting at 7:00. You can hear Tiger Talk with Coach Brian McNamee starting at about 6:30 on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com followed by the game at 7:00.

Superintendent John McColloch wants to remind everyone the restrooms at the football field will not be open tonight. The school will have some port-a-potties at the field and they will have golf carts available to take persons to the restrooms at the gymnasium that will be outside the gate. The school apologizes for the inconvenience.

TODAY is the last day to register your 1st through 6th grade boy or girl in the City of Salem Youth Flag Football Program for $25.00. Registration is being held at the Salem Community Center @ The Armory during regular business hours. Late registrations begin on Saturday and will be taken until next Friday, August 31st. They too can be made to the Salem Community Center@The Armory. Games this year will be played Saturdays starting on September 29th and going through October 20th. The St. Louis Cardinals start a three game series in Colorado starting tonight at 7:40. The game tonight will be joined in progress after the Salem Tiger Football game. The Cards will also play Saturday at 6:15 and Sunday at 1:15, and both games can be heard on KSMO Radio.

The Royals were walked off in the ninth by the Rays, 4-3, when rookie first baseman Ryan O’Hearn made a throwing error to home plate with the bases loaded and one out. The Royals will face the Cleveland Indians this weekend at Kaufmann Stadium.

The Kansas City Chiefs will play their third preseason game Saturday at noon against the Chicago Bears. The Chiefs are 1-1 in pre-season play.
