In the 2018 100-Acre Wood Rally held this past weekend in Dent, Crawford and Washington counties, the overall winner was Piotr Fetela driving car #94 with co-driver Dominik Jozwiak, while second place overall went to driver Timothy Rooney and co-driver Anthony Vohs in car #47. Coming in third place overall was driver Cameron Steely and co-driver Preston Osborn in car #824. The Rally in the 100-Acre Wood is Round 3 of the Rally America National Championship, and they would like to extend a thank you to the residents and businesses of Dent, Crawford and Washington counties for your support of the event which is the key to its success.

The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the courthouse for their regular meeting. Mike Swyers from the Sligo area was in to thank the commissioners for the fine work in getting the roads back in drivable shape quickly after the last heavy rain. Rusty Chamberlain was in for District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell who was not in attendance due to an illness in his family. Chamberlain said materials would be added to a number of roads including Dent County Roads 2430, 5150, 5510 and 6600. He went to say that a crew would be out checking the roads used in the Road Rally this past weekend to make sure there were no major damages. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said his men were also out checking a number of the roads used in the Rally in the 100-Acre Wood for possible damage. Larson did say he would have a crew working on the Dent County Road 2300 which is also known as the “Commons Road.” Larson said a crossing on the road near Route DD has washed out and the crews are going repair it correctly. Larson said two men would be hauling materials to that location and other work with a backhoe will be done to correct the washout problem. Because of the work, Commissioner Larson said the “Commons Road” will be closed to through traffic from Highway 72 to Route DD until this evening. Dent County Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said there will be a Health Consortium meeting in Springfield today that the commission plans on attending. He also said a feral hog meeting will be held Thursday evening in Eminence at the Old High School Gym at 7:00 and the meeting is open to anyone. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said absentee voting continues in her office through April 2nd. At the last meeting, Deputy Lenny Pabin was in and said the Dent County Sheriff’s Department and jail needs two new hot water heaters. Pabin will get quotes and get back with commission. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

At the Salem R-80 Board of Education meeting held Thursday at the R-80 Administrative Offices, the board approved the resignations of Phillip Giacomelli, music instructor at William Lynch; 1st grade teacher Micah Adams; High School Spanish instructor Angel Edgar; High School English instructor Debra Starkey; and 9th Grade Basketball Coach Kyle Anderson. In closed session, the board approved re-hiring probationary teachers at William Lynch, the Upper Elementary, the Middle School and the High School. The board also approved the hiring of Alec Conner for High School drama, Will Hubbs for High School Quiz Bowl, Robin Taylor for High School Yearbook, Amy Halinar for Upper Elementary Yearbook, Lisa Jadwin for William Lynch Yearbook, Elaine Russell for High School Music, David Schatz for High School Band, Susan Sheeley for High School Quiz Bowl, Robyn Taylor for High School Head Junior Class Sponsor, Dustin Bell for Middle School Yearbook, Kelsey Schatz for High School Color Guard, Heidi Ross for Instructional Coach, Jody Heavin as Process Coordinator, Chelsie Tune as High School Student Council Sponsor, Kaylie Jay as a Probationary Speech Language Pathologist and Kriste Crocker as the Federal Programs Coordinator. The board also approved the hiring of Natalie Sellers, Lane Howard and Amber Pryor. The board came back into open session before adjourning.
