The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Courthouse. Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock and Collector Elect Shannon Vankirk were in to share transition information. Medlock said that in order to accomplish the transition, transfer necessary data, etc., the credit card terminal will be shut down from February 22nd through March 4th. When Vankirk’s duties start March 4th the new Credit Card Terminal will have completed the transition and would be operational. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that materials would be added and patch grading done on Dent County Roads 5440, 5510, 6420 and 4210, plus patching of chip and seal would be done on county roads 4110 and 5015. Purcell noted on Monday he would be attending a Tourism Committee meeting. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that he had two men servicing truck #65 and that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 2370. He went on to say that on his way in he saw that the signs at county road 3210, the Hospital Road, had been knocked down so part of his crew was replacing them and checking for downed signs on other roadways. Larson noted that some of his crew was patching chip and seal on various roads and that it was too muddy to do any grading. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that on Wednesday he attended the CCAM Board Meeting where they finalized plans for the CCAM training coming up in February, plus the lobbyist for CCAM was in attendance with a legislative update. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that late Thursday afternoon she would have a tentative budget available for the public. Skiles reminded the public that the Courthouse would be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The next regular meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning in the Courthouse at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident happened Wednesday afternoon at 12:25 in Washington County on Highway 32 east of Jellinek Road that left a Dent County couple with minor injuries. According to the Highway Patrol Report a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 31 year-old Brian Cox of Park Hills, crossed the center line and the front of the Silverado struck the front of a 2010 Ford Escape, driven by 68 year-old Jackie Land of Bunker. Land along with the passenger in the Ford, 65 year-old Phyllis Land, both suffered minor injuries and were transported to Washington County Memorial Hospital by Washington County EMS. The report stated that the Lands and Cox were all wearing safety restraints at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet was totaled and removed from the scene by Marler’s Towing, while the Ford received extensive damage and was towed by Elliott’s Towing.
