The Salem Basketball Tigers will be in Thayer tonight to take on the Bobcats. The JV game will start at 6:00 and the varsity game will follow at around 7:30. The Mizzou Tigers hosted the Oklahoma Sooners last night, and after the first half, the Tigers had established themselves with a 20-point lead. In the second half, the Tigers continued their dominance, defeating the Sooners 82-58. Mark Mitchell led the Tigers with 25 points. Mizzou’s next game will be this Saturday afternoon at 2:00 on the road against the Georgia Bulldogs. The Salem Lady Tigers traveled to Steelville last night for a basketball game originally scheduled for this Thursday, and fell by a score of 65-34.

Kolby James scored 25 points including five 3-pointers to lead the Willow Springs bears to a 71-58 win over the Salem Tigers Monday night at Munford Gymnasium in Willow Springs. Salem was led by Gavin Sapaugh with 21 points followed by Braiden Gapsch with 17 and Luke Pryor who added 10 more. The Tigers fall to 10-12 on the year and 2-2 in the SCA Conference. They will be at Thayer Friday night to face the Bobcats starting with a JV game at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow. The Salem Lady Tigers lost their ninth straight game as they fell to the Cuba Lady Wildcats Monday evening, 70-27. Their record is 4-16 and they will be at Steelville Thursday night for a JV game at 5:30 with the varsity game to follow.

The Mizzou Tigers will be back on the court tomorrow night versus the Oklahoma Sooners. The Tigers are ranked 21st with an overall record of 17-6 and a 6-4 conference record. Oklahoma is 16-7 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

Sports – Monday, February 10th 2025

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers scored 19 points in the 1st and 2nd quarters building a 38-17 lead at halftime, then cruised to a 61-27 win over the Cabool Bulldogs. It was the third straight win for the Tigers who improve to 2-1 in the SCA Conference and 10-11 on the season. Salem was led by Braiden Gapsch with 19 points followed by Dannon Berry with 12 more. The Tigers will be at Willow Springs tonight for a varsity only game that will start at 5:00 in an attempt to beat the expected bad weather. That game can be heard on KSMO Radio and audio streamed on KSMO Media.

The Salem Boys JV defeated Cabool in a shortened two quarter game Friday night, 30-3. It was the sixth straight win of the Salem JV who improve to 11-5 on the season. They will NOT play tonight at Willow Springs and their next game will be Friday night at Thayer at 6:00.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will be at Cuba to face the Lady Wildcats tonight. This game has recently been updated to a varsity only game starting at 5:00. The Salem Lady Varsity Tigers are 4-15 and have lost their last eight.

Wade Taylor IV hit a three-pointer with 2.1 seconds left as the Texas A&M Aggies handed Missouri their first home loss this year, 67-64. Tamar Bates led Missouri with 16 points followed by Jacob Crews with 14 points and Mark Mitchell with 12 more. Missouri got off to a slow start and trailed at half-time by nine but went on a 15-2 run in the second half, but couldn’t hang on to the second half lead. The Tigers are now 17-6 on the year, and 6-4 in the SEC Conference. They will play host Oklahoma Wednesday night. You can listen to this game live on KSMO radio starting with pregame at 7:30.

The St. Louis Blues played in a thriller versus the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. In Ryan Suter’s 1,500th game, the Blues defeated the Blackhawks in an overtime shootout 6-5.

The Kansas City Chiefs played the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans for Super Bowl 59 last night and were overwhelmed by the Eagles, losing the game 40-22. The Eagles have won their 2nd Super Bowl Championship in franchise history.

The St. Louis Blues hosted the Florida Panthers last night and it was Zack Bolduc scoring the first goal on the night after just three minutes, thirty-one seconds. The Panthers responded with a pair of goals to close out the first period. Oskar Sundqvist tied up the game in the second. Late in the third with less than 12 seconds left Sam Reinhart scored with a snap shot and sent the Blues to the locker room with a 3-2 loss. The 15th ranked Mizzou Tigers will be hosting the 10th ranked Texas A&M Aggies tomorrow night. Mizzou is 17-5 on the season with a 6-3 conference record and are undefeated when playing at home. The Aggies also are 17-3 on the season with a 6-3 conference record, however they are 3-3 when playing an away game. Tune into this game live on KSMO radio with pregame at 2:00 and tip-off at 2:30.

The Kansas City Chiefs will finish their season this Sunday in New Orleans as they face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL Super Bowl 59. This is Philadelphia’s second visit to the Super Bowl in three years while the Chiefs are going for a first in NFL history, championship three-peat. Fox will be broadcasting the game and while there are several options to watch, Tubi will be streaming the game for free on their platform.

The Salem Lady Tigers will be on the road tonight as they travel to Thayer to take on the Lady Bobcats. The JV teams will begin the night at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow.

The 17-4 Mizzou Tigers were in Tennessee last night for a matchup versus the 18–4 Volunteers. Early on, the Tigers were able to quiet the crowd and assert themselves to a 34-28 first half advantage. After halftime, the Volunteers battled back and after scoring 28 points in the first half, they more than doubled their scoring output, racking up 57 points in the second half. Mizzou also improved their second half scoring by 13, but it wouldn’t be enough to keep pace as they fell, 85-81. The stat sheet revealed the Volunteers had a higher percentage in scoring free throws, three pointers, and field goals. The leading scorer for the Tigers was Tamar Bates with 22 points on the night. It was a busy night of basketball at the Salem High School Gym last night as the Tigers hosted three games. First was the Salem Lady Tigers falling to the Belle Lady Tigers by a score of 56-40 marking their fifth loss since defeating Cabool. The Lady Tigers start a four game road trip tomorrow night versus the 13-5 Lady Bobcats of Thayer. The Salem JV Tigers played the Houston Tigers in a two quarter game and kept their winning streak alive with a 31-6 victory. They’ll look to extend their winning ways this Friday versus the 2-13 Cabool Bulldogs. The Salem Varsity Tigers wrapped up a busy night, with their victory over the Houston Tigers, 70-51. The Tigers have hit their stride as they’ve gone 5-2 over their last seven contests. Salem will host the Cabool Bulldogs Friday night as 6:00. The St. Louis Blues played the Edmonton Oilers last night and fell in overtime 3-2. The Oilers came out firing as they put 13 shots on goal in the first versus the Blues’ 3 shots. Early in the second, Connor McDavid broke the scoreless tie. Jordan Kyrou and Colton Parayko would respond in the third giving the Blues their first lead on the night. Edmonton would tie the game and force overtime where Connor Brown would give the Blues the loss at home. The Blues are off today.

The Salem Tigers were on the court last night hosting the Sullivan Eagles. In the first game of the night the JV Tigers defeated the Eagles by a score of 38-27. The Tigers kept the momentum going into the varsity game, defeating the Eagles by a score of 67-48. Tonight both the Salem Tigers and Lady Tigers will be in action. The Lady Tigers will start the night off with a varsity game versus the Belle Lady Tigers. This game was recently moved up to a 5:00 start time. Following the Lady Tigers the Salem JV Tigers will play a two quarter game versus the Houston Tigers, with the boy’s varsity game versus Houston to follow. Both varsity games can be heard on KSMO Radio (AM 1340 and FM 95.7) and be video streamed on KSMO Media (ksmoradio.com).

It will be a challenge versus a 32-16-4 Oilers team that currently holds the top spot in the Western Pacific. Brennon Meloy scored 28 points including hitting 13 straight free throws in the 4th quarter to help lead the Bunker Eagles past the Salem Tigers Friday night, 56-48. Salem was led by Braiden Gapsch with 17 points followed by Lincoln Thomas with 13. The Eagles improve top 14-3 with the win while Salem falls to 7-11. The Salem JV Tigers trailed at halftime against Bunker, 15-12, then outscored the Eagles in the 2nd half, 25-3 and won the game, 37-18.

The Tigers will be home tonight to face the Sullivan in a make-up game with the Eagles. the JV will play at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow around 7:30. Kinsey Barton scored 32 points as the Bunker Lady Eagles beat the Salem Lady Tigers Friday night, 77-29. Hailey Turnbough from Bunker added 21 more points as the Lady Eagles netted eleven 3-pointers in the contest. Salem was led by Raven Gillam who scored 11 points. The Lady Tigers have lost four straight games and are 4-11 on the season. They will be at Willow Springs tonight to take on the Lady Bears in SCA Conference play. Salem is 1-2 in the conference while the Lady Bears are 0-2.

Friday night, the Colorado Avalanche scored four first period goals and shut down the St. Louis Blues, 5-0. It was the Blues fourth straight loss. Then Sunday, they would bounce back with a victory over the Utah Hockey Club last night, 2-1.

The 20th ranked Mizzou Tigers dominated the 14th ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon, winning 88-61. This marks Missouri’s largest margin of victory over a ranked opponent in school history. Leading scorer for Mizzou was Caleb Grill with 20 points. Mizzou is now 17-4 on the season and undefeated at home.

Salem Tiger Pitcher Blake Edwards has committed to join the baseball team at Hannibal-LaGrange University in Hannibal after graduating from Salem High School in May. Edwards will be a senior this year and will be one of the leaders of this year’s Salem Tiger Baseball team. Congratulations to Blake!
