Sports – Thursday, March 13th 2025

The St. Louis Cardinals played the New York Mets yesterday and were shutout 2-0. They’re playing the Houston Astros at 12:05 this afternoon.

The Kansas City Royals took on the Seattle Mariners yesterday and after the first two innings Seattle was up 5-0. Going into the top of the ninth the Royals were trailing 6-3. Then a Tyler Tolbert home run, Gavin Cross triple, and Stone Russell single scored four runs for the Royals sealing the 7-6 win. The Royals will play the San Diego Padres this afternoon at 3:05.

The Missouri Tigers will play the Mississippi Bulldogs tonight in the second round of the SEC Tournament. The winner of tonight’s game will go on to face second ranked Florida in the quarterfinals on Friday. You can hear this game on KSMO Radio 1340 AM & 95.7 FM. With the pregame show starting at 5:30.

The St. Louis Blues are back on the ice tonight as they’ll be in Pittsburgh to face the Penguins. This is their first meeting in the season. The Blues are in the mix for postseason play at 31-27-7, and just one point behind the Calgary Flames. This game will be on KSMO Radio, on a delay, following the Missouri Tigers Basketball game.

Sports – Wednesday, March 12th 2025

The St. Louis Cardinals played the Miami Marlins yesterday afternoon and were defeated 12-5. The Marlins were able to hit five home runs on the afternoon. Jose Barrero had a good day for the Cards, going two of three at the plate with a pair of runs batted in and a stolen base. The Cardinals will continue their spring training with a game versus the Mets tomorrow afternoon at 12:05.

The Kansas City Royals played the Arizona Diamondbacks yesterday afternoon and lost 3-2. The Diamondbacks scored all of their points in the bottom of the fifth. The Royals would battle back to make it a close game but Arizona would hold on for the win after a Jack Pineda pop out. They’ll face the Seattle Mariners this afternoon at 3:10.

The Missouri Tiger Basketball team is enjoying a bye today, they will play the winner of the LSU and Mississippi State game being played tonight at 6:00. The winner of this game will travel to Columbia to take on the seventh ranked Mizzou Tigers tomorrow evening at 6:00. You can hear this game on KSMO Radio 1340 AM & 95.7 FM. With the pregame show starting at 5:30.

The official start to the NFL’s Free Agency period starts this afternoon at 3:00, and with four wide receivers leaving the Kansas City Chiefs as free agents the Chiefs announced yesterday that they are resigning Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to a one year, $11 million deal. Brown missed significant time last year due to a shoulder injury.

The St. Louis Cardinals took on the New York Mets in a spring training contest yesterday afternoon. It was a rough outing for the Cards as they were shutout 8-0. Their next game will be today, at 12:05, against the Marlins.

The Kansas City Royals played host to the Cleveland Guardians yesterday afternoon, and lost 5-2. The Guardians scored five runs and shutout the Royals until the bottom of the eighth when Harold Castro singled in Tyler Tolbert. Then Will Dion threw a wild pitch allowing Gavin Cross to score. The Royals are off today.

Sports – Monday, March 10th 2025

The Salem Tigers and Owensville Dutchman battled in the Class 4, District 3 Championship contest in front of a large crowd Friday night at Owensville. The game went down to the last three-point shot to tie the game, but Salem could only get the put back rebound for two points as Owensville held on to beat Salem, 42-41, and the Dutchmen will advance to the Sectional game at Owensville tonight against Clayton. Salem led only once in the game and that was at the end of the 3rd quarter after Cayden Moody hit three free throws to make it 31-30, but Owensville outscored the Tigers in an exciting 4th quarter, 12-10 to win the District Championship. Salem was led by Gavin Sapaugh with 19 points and nine rebounds, and Cayden Moody also scored nine points. Chase Crosby had 17 points for Owensville to pace their scoring. Salem finished the year with a 14-15 record. Congratulations to Coach Patterson and the Tigers on a fine season.

The Missouri Tigers dropped their third straight game Saturday, losing to Kentucky, 91-83. The Tigers were led in scoring by Mark Mitchell with 22 points followed by Marques Warrick with 17 points. Missouri finishes the regular season with a 21-10 record and are seeded 7th in the SEC Tournament. They get a first-round bye and will play Thursday night at 6:00 against the winner of the Mississippi State and LSU game. 

The St. Louis Blues beat Anaheim Friday night, 4-3 on the strength of two goals by Brayden Schenn, then lost to the LA Kings Saturday night in overtime, 2-1. Nick Leddy had the only goal for the Blues Saturday night. The Blues will be off until Thursday night when they play Pittsburgh as they continue their six-game road trip.

Cesar Prieto’s eighth inning home run was the last of four homers hit by St. Louis Sunday as they beat the New York Yankees, 6-5 after trailing in the game, 4-1. Alec Burleson, Nolan Gorman and Matt Koperniak also homered for St. Louis who even their spring training record at 8-8. They’ll play the New York Mets today in Florida.

The Kansas City Royals hosted the Milwaukee Brewers last night and after a home run from Jonathan India and Jac Caglianone, the Royals defeated the Brewers 5-2. They play the Cleveland Guardians this afternoon at 3:05.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers face the Owensville Dutchman tonight in the Class 4, District 3 Championship game starting at 6:00. Salem enters the game with a 14-14 record while Owensville is 14-12 on the season. Salem has not won the district championship since 2005, and Owensville has not won since 1996. Admission to the game is $6.00 per person who is six years of age and older. The game will be carried on KSMO Radio (AM 1340 and FM 95.7) and also audio streamed on KSMO Media. The game will be video streamed on MSHSAA.TV and the cost is $10 plus other fees per device. The broadcast tonight will begin around 5:45 with Tiger Talk and Coach Jared Patterson.

The St. Louis Blues beat the LA Kings Wednesday night, 3-2 as Robert Thomas scored the winner in the shootout. Jake Neighbours and Thomas scored in regulation for the Blues who are 5-1-1 since the break. The Blues will be at Anaheim to face the Ducks tonight starting at 8:30 with the pre-game show and Saturday will be in Los Angeles to play the Kings again starting with the pregame show at 6:30. The Missouri Basketball Tigers wrap up their regular season Saturday morning against Kentucky beginning at 10:30 on KSMO Radio. Missouri is 21-9 overall and 10-7 in the SEC Conference. Kentucky is 20-10 on the year and 9-8 in the SEC Conference. 

The St. Louis Cardinals will play the Houston Astros today in the Grapefruit League before taking on Washington Saturday and the New York Yankees on Sunday. Saturday’s game will be delayed and can be heard on KSMO Radio at 1:55, and the Sunday’s game will be at 11:55 on KSMO.

The Kansas City Royals play the LA Angels of Anaheim tonight in the Cactus League before playing a split squad doubleheader on Saturday with San Franscisco and Texas. On Sunday, the Royals will play Milwaukee. Kansas City has announced that Mike Moustakis will retire a Royal on May 31st as he will sign a one-day contract. There will be a pre-game ceremony to honor “moose” and the impact he had on Kansas City and the 2015 World Series winning Royals team.

Luke Pryor had a double-double to help lead the Salem Basketball Tigers to a 58-49 win over the #1 seeded Cuba Wildcats Wednesday night at Owensville as Salem will advance to the District Finals Friday night at 6:00 against the #2 seeded Owensville Dutchman. Pryor finished with 16 points and ten rebounds while Braiden Gapsch added 11 points followed by Lincoln Thomas and Gavin Sapaugh who each added ten points. Cayden Moody for the second straight game hit three 3-pointers in the 1st half, where in this game, they all come in the second quarter when Salem outscored Cuba, 22-7 to take the lead for good. Salem is 14-14 on the year and they will face Owensville who defeated St. James Wednesday, 51-45. Salem beat Owensville in December in Salem, 47-32. Admission to the game is $6.00 per person who is six years of age and older. The game will be carried on KSMO Radio (AM 1340 and FM 95.7) and also audio streamed on KSMO Media. Missouri was led by Mark Mitchell with 18 points followed by Caleb Grill with 16 more. Missouri is now 21-9 on the year and they are 10-7 in the SEC Conference. They will host Kentucky Saturday morning at 10:30 in their final regular season game before the SEC Tournament and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers face the Cuba Wildcats in the Class 4, District 3 semi-final in Owensville starting at 5:30 tonight. Salem is 13-14 on the year while Cuba goes into the contest with a 13-11 record. Admission to the game is $6.00 per person for those six years of age and above. The Missouri Basketball Tigers, coming off the 97-93 overtime loss to Vanderbilt Saturday, will be at Oklahoma tonight starting at 7:00 on KSMO. Missouri is 21-8 overall and 10-6 in the SEC Conference going into the game while Oklahoma is 17-12 overall and 4-12 in the conference. The game can be heard on KSMO Radio immediately after Salem Tiger District Basketball.

The St. Louis Blues continue their six-game road trip as they will be in Los Angeles to face the Kings in a rematch of the game from Saturday night that the Blues won, 4-1. The Blues are currently two points out of the 2nd wild card slot behind Calgary, but the Flames have played two less games than the Blues. The Cuba Lady Wildcats held off a feisty Salem Lady Tigers squad in the first round of District play Tuesday night in Cuba, winning by a final score of 55-41. Salem led after the 1st quarter, 14-11 but could only get four points in the 2nd quarter and trailed 24-18 at half and could never get closer than the six point deficit. Salem was led by Addison Fulton who had 17 points and 11 rebounds followed by Raven Gillam with 13 points. Courtney Caron paced Cuba with 19 points followed by Leah Schmidt with 14 points and Mya Garbo with 11 more. Salem finished the year with a 4-22 record while Cuba improves to 15-11 and will play the St. Francis Borgia Lady Knights Thursday night at 7:00 in the semi-final.

Sports – Tuesday, March 4th 2025

The Salem Basketball Tigers hit five first half three-pointers, including three from Cayden Moody, as they built a 15-point halftime lead and cruised to a 62-41 win over St. Clair Monday night at Owensville. Salem was led by Gavin Sapaugh and Braiden Gapsch who each netted 16 points. Moody finished with 13 points as Salem outrebounded St. Clair, 26-11 in the game, but Salem struggled from the free throw line in the 4th quarter only hitting 6 of 16 shots, finishing 12-24 on the night. The Tigers advance to the district semi-final Wednesday night at 5:30 against Cuba at Owensville. Salem goes into the game Wednesday with a 13-14 record but have won three of their last four and six of their last nine. Cuba enters the game with a 13-11 record, but they have lost five of their last six games. Admission Wednesday at Owensville is $6.00 per person for anyone 6 years of age and up.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will face the Cuba Lady Wildcats/Viburnum Lady Jays combo in the first round of District play tonight at Cuba at 7:00. Salem enters the game with a 4-21 record and have lost their last 14 games. Cuba/Viburnum comes into the game with a 14-11 overall record, but they are 2-5 in their seven games. The Wildcats/Jays beat Salem back on February 10th, 70-27. Admission to the game is $6.00 per person for anyone six years of age and older. The game will be broadcast on KSMO Radio (AM 1340 and 95.7 FM) and audio streamed on ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Basketball Tigers will be in postseason play tonight as they will take on the St. Clair Bulldogs in Owensville. The Tigers and Bulldogs recently played last week and it was the Tigers taking the “W” by a score of 59-52. The Tigers finished the regular season 12-14, while the Bulldogs finished with a 14-12 record.  You can listen to this game on KSMO Radio 1340 AM & 95.7 FM with Tiger Talk starting at approximately 5:15. There will be a live audio stream on KSMO Media’s Facebook and YouTube page but due to MSHSAA regulations KSMO Media is required to only stream the video on MSHSAA.tv. The Mizzou Basketball Tigers took on the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday. The Tigers would go up quick finishing the first half with a 9 point advantage, however the Commodores would rally and battle back late to force overtime with a three point shot in the final few seconds. Once overtime was underway Vanderbilt played with the momentum and defeated the Tigers 97-93. Mizzou’s next game will be Wednesday evening at 7:00. The St. Louis Blues defeated the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday by a score of 4-1. Riding a 4 game win streak they headed down to Texas and traded goals early with the Dallas Stars but fell, 6-3. The next Blues game will be Wednesday evening at 9:30. Listen to this game live on KSMO Radio following the Mizzou Basketball game. If the Tigers game runs into overtime, the Blues game will be joined in progress.

In Brayden Schenn’s 1,000th game, the Blues played the Washington Capitals last night and upset them 5-2. Philip Broberg scored a pair of goals in the first, giving St. Louis the early advantage. The Blues, now on a three game win streak, have a pair of games over the weekend. Saturday night they’ll be at home to take on the Los Angeles Kings at 7:00. You can listen to this game live on KSMO radio, 1340 AM & 95.7 FM following the Mizzou Tiger Basketball game. Then Sunday afternoon the Blues will be in Dallas to finish their season series against the Stars. This game can also be heard live on KSMO Radio with the pregame starting at 4:30.

The Mizzou Tigers are currently 10-5 in the SEC Conference, 21-7 overall, and ranked 14th nationally. They’ll be back on the court tomorrow afternoon to play the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville. This game will be aired on KSMO Radio with coverage beginning at 4:30.
