Sports – Tuesday, March 25th 2025

In Monday’s sports report, we erroneously said the Salem Lady Tigers lost to Portageville in the first game of their round robin tournament Saturday in Ellsinore, 10-9. The Lady Tigers actually won that game with two runs in the bottom of the last inning to beat Portageville, 11-10. We apologize for the error. They will have their home opener today starting at 4:30 against Ellington. Cayden Moody went 3-4 with three runs scored and an RBI to help lead the Salem Baseball Tigers to an 8-4 win over Steelville Monday at Steelville. Corby Ball had a hit and three RBI for Salem who banged out ten hits in the game and took advantage of three Steelville errors. Bryar Bobbitt got the start and the win for Salem, and Dannon Berry threw 2 1/3rds innings of scoreless relief to seal the victory. Salem is now 2-0-1 on the year and will play Ellington Thursday at the SHS Baseball Field Complex in a game whose start time has been moved up to 4:00. That game will only be video streamed on KSMO Media due to it being the St. Louis Cardinals Opening Day Ceremonies.

The St Louis Blues are on home ice tonight set to play the Montreal Canadiens. You can listen to this game live on KSMO Radio with pre-skate coverage to begin at 6:30 this evening or immediately following Salem Lady Tiger Softball.

Sports – Monday, March 24th 2025

The Salem Boys Baseball Tigers opened their 2025 spring season with a win and tie in the opening doubleheader held Saturday at the SHS Baseball Field Complex. In the first game with Vienna, Salem scored in every inning but the third and came away with an 8-4 win. Bryar Bobbit had two hits and two RBI, and Sylis Dubois also had two hits for Salem. Kash Howard had two RBI for Salem. In the second game, Salem scored two runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and finished with a 2-2 tie with Father Tolton. Salem had only two hits, one by Dubois and the other was an RBI hit by Howard. Salem will be at Steelville today to play the Cardinals starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Tony Edwards around 4:15 on KSMO Radio and audio streamed on KSMO Media. 

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers Saturday played in the East Carter Round Robin Tournament and lost both games to the opposing teams in their final at bat. In the first game, Salem had a 9-6 lead going into the last inning, but Portageville scored four times to beat Salem, 10-9. Reagan Dubois had two hits and two RBI to lead Salem followed by Mackenzie Radford with two hits. Alaina Norris finished with a double and four RBI for the Lady Tigers. In the second game with East Carter, Salem scored five runs in the top of the last inning to take the lead, only to have the Lady Redbirds score five runs in the bottom of the inning for a 13-11 win over Salem. Dubois had two hits including a homer and drove in five runs to lead the Lady Tigers. Salem will host Ellington Tuesday at the Salem City Park, and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio or video stream the game on KSMO Media starting at 4:15 with Tiger Talk and Coach Cody Woody. 

Alexey Toropchenko and Nathan Walker each had a goal and an assist for the St. Louis Blues, defeating the Chicago Blackhawks at Enterprise Center, 4-1. Robert Thomas and Zack Bolduc also scored for the Blues on the night. Then on Sunday, Dalibor Dvorsky had his NHL debut as the Blues faced off with the Nashville Predators. Jordan Kyrou, Alexandre Texier, Justin Faulk, and Brayden Schenn each scored a goal to defeat the Nashville Predators, 4-1. The Blues are on a season-high six game winning streak.

The St. Louis Cardinals had a pair of split squad losses on Friday, losing to the Astros, 5-3, and the Mets, 3-2. On Saturday they defeated the Marlins 8-2, and in their final game of spring training on Sunday they lost late in the 9th to the Washington Nationals, 2-1. The Cardinals will open the regular season hosting the Minnesota Twins this Thursday afternoon at 3:15, you can listen to this game live on KSMO Radio with coverage beginning at 1:35.

The Kansas City Royals picked up wins in two of their last three games, losing to the Athletics 10-1 and defeating the Mariners 8-7 in a split squad game on Friday. They defeated the Rangers yesterday, 9-5. The Royals will play the Rangers again this evening at 7:05.

Sports – Friday, March 21st 2025

Salem Tiger Spring Sports have begun!!!! The Salem Track and Field Teams will have a practice meet today at 3:00 at Fredericktown.

The Salem Tiger Baseball Team will open their regular season with a doubleheader Saturday at the SHS Field. Salem will face Vienna Saturday morning at 9:00 followed by the Cuba and Father Tolten game starting around 11:30. Then the losers of the first two games will play each other at 2:00, followed by the winners of the first two games playing each other at 4:30.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will participate in the East Carter round-robin tournament at Ellsinore Saturday. Salem will play Portageville at 12:30 and then face East Carter at 2:00.

The Missouri Tigers faced the Drake Bulldogs last night in a low scoring affair, in the end the Bulldogs would upset the Tigers 67-57, ending Mizzou’s season with a 22-12 record. 

The St. Louis Blues hosted the Vancouver Canucks last night and in a close one, Zack Bolduc would put the first points on the board with a wrist shot late in the second period. In the third there would be no shortage of goals scored but it was the last second goal from the Canucks’ Brock Boeser pushing the game into overtime. Just under 4 minutes into overtime Philip Broberg put in a backhand shot giving the Blues the 4-3 victory. The Blues will be busy this weekend as they host the Chicago Blackhawks tomorrow afternoon at 2:00. On Sunday the Blues will host the Nashville Predators at 5:00 in the afternoon. The Cardinals are nearing the end of their spring training schedule. Today they have split squad games versus the Astros at 12:05 and the Mets at 12:10. On Saturday the Cards will play the Marlins at 12:10 and on Sunday play the Washington Nationals at 12:05. Listen to Sunday’s game live on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Royals are playing a split squad game today versus the Mariners and Athletics, with a simultaneous first pitches at 3:05. Then on Saturday they’ll face the Rangers at 2:05 in the afternoon and have Sunday off.

The 6th ranked Missouri Tigers start their NCAA Tournament play tonight against the 11th Drake Bulldogs. Listen to this game live on KSMO Radio 1340 AM & 95.7 FM, with the pregame coverage beginning at 6:00. The winner of this game will advance to round 2 to face either 14th seeded UNC Wilmington or 3rd seeded Texas Tech.

The St. Louis Blues played the Predators last night in Nashville. Justin Faulk, Jake Neighbours and Jordan Kyrou all scored goals before the Predators were able to get on the board late in the 2nd. When the Zamboni rolled out onto the rink for the final time it was the Blues over the Predators 4-1. The Blues will go on to face the Vancouver Canucks tomorrow evening at 6:30, you can listen to this game, on a delay following the Missouri Tigers first round game in the NCAA Tournament against the Drake Bulldogs. The Mizzou game will be covered live on KSMO 1340 AM & 95.7 FM starting at 6:00.

Sports – Tuesday, March 18th 2025

The St. Louis Blues will face off against the Nashville Predators this evening at 7:00. This is the first of three meetings between the two teams in March. The first time these two teams played was back in December when the Blues defeated the Predators 7-4. The Blues currently sit just outside of a wildcard spot. The St. Louis Cardinals played the Washington Nationals yesterday and the Cardinals improved their spring training record with a 6-2 victory. Jose Fermin batted in four runs on the day and Victor Scott II hit a home run in the 7th. The Cardinals play the Marlins this afternoon at 12:05.

The Kansas City Royals scored 12 runs in their 12-1 route of the Arizona Diamondbacks yesterday. The Royals piled up nine points in the first four innings all while holding Arizona to a single run batted in on seven hits. Bobby Witt Jr. hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third. The Royals have the day off today, and their next game will be against the San Francisco Giants, Wednesday evening at 8:05.

Sports – Monday, March 16th 2025

The Missouri Tigers fell to Florida on Friday by a score of 95-81. Tamar Bates led the Tigers in scoring with 16 points, as three other Tigers scored double digits. While the Tigers exited the SEC Tournament they’ve qualified for the NCAA Tournament being seeded 6th overall. They will play the 11th seeded Drake Bulldogs on Thursday, March 20th at 6:35 in the evening.

The St. Louis Blues faced off against Minnesota Saturday evening and Jordan Kyrou had himself a day with three shots on goal for three goals, leading the Blues to a 5-1 victory over the Wild. On Sunday the Blues returned home to play the Anaheim Ducks. The game was delayed due to travel complications, per the St. Louis Blues website. After an opening ceremony to celebrate Brayden Schenn’s 1,000th game, it would take him just seconds to get the Blues on the board early, followed by a Pavel Buchnevich tip-in shot 49 seconds later. In the second Holloway, Faksa, and Joseph each tacked on a goal giving the Blues a three point advantage going into the second intermission. In the third Jake Neighbours and Oskar Sundqvist each added a goal to the stat sheet as the Blues easily defeated the Anaheim Ducks 7-2.

The St. Louis Cardinals played the New York Mets Friday afternoon and tied, 3-3. On Saturday they defeated the Blue Jays 9-5, in a game the Cards never trailed in. The following afternoon on Sunday they were back on the diamond against the Marlins falling, 11-5. The Cardinals will continue their spring training schedule today against the Washington Nationals at 12:05.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced they have signed free-agent right-handed pitcher Phil Maton to a one-year contract for the 2025 season. Maton closed out the 2024 season as a member of the New York Mets after coming over in a trade from Tampa Bay on July 9.  He went 3-3 with a 3.66 ERA in a combined 71 games with the Mets and Rays last season and appeared in six postseason games during New York’s advance to the National League Championship Series.

The Kansas City Royals played the Los Angeles Angels Friday afternoon and with a run in the top of the eight, defeated the Angels, 9-8. On Saturday they faced the Cleveland Guardians and Cincinnati Reds in a double header. They lost their game against the Guardians, 7-5 but bounced back to defeat the Reds, 13-7. Yesterday they had no problem dispatching the Colorado Rockies, 10-2. This afternoon they’ll play the Diamondbacks at 3:05.

With the focal point of Free Agency in the NFL passed the Kansas City Chiefs have signed or resigned 12 players. Most notably Linebacker Nick Bolton resigned to a three year $45 million dollar contract. Trey Smith was unable to come to terms on a long term contract but signed a non-exclusive franchise tag that will see the guard get paid $23.4 million for the 2025 season, and JuJu Smith-Schuster, Kareem Hunt, and Gardner Minshew all signing one year deals.

The St. Louis Cardinals played the Houston Astros yesterday afternoon and tied 1-1. They will play the Mets this afternoon at 5:10, the Blue Jays Saturday at 12:05, and the Marlins on Sunday at 12:10. You can listen to each of the weekend games live on KSMO 1340 AM & 95.7 FM. The Kansas City Royals played the San Diego Padres yesterday and for the second game in a row had some ninth inning heroics, scoring 4 runs late to claim a 6-5 victory. They’ll play the Los Angeles Angels at 3:10 this afternoon, the Cleveland Guardians tomorrow at 3:05, and Cincinnati Reds on Sunday at 3:05 as well.

The Missouri Tigers faced the Mississippi Bulldogs last night and after a lengthy delay to start the game the Tigers secured a victory 85-73, despite the in game loss of Mark Mitchell and Josh Gray, due to a knee injury and illness. The Tigers advance to the quarterfinals to face Florida this evening at 6:00. Listen to this game live on KSMO Radio with coverage starting at 5:30.

The St. Louis Blues faced off against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night. The Blues put 36 shots on goal compared to the Penguins 22 but it was the quality of the shooting not the quantity that won the game for Pittsburgh, 5-3. On Saturday the Blues will finish their six game road trip in Minnesota against the Wild at 7:00 in the evening. You can listen to this game live on KSMO Radio with the pregame skate at 6:30. The St. Louis Cardinals played the New York Mets yesterday and were shutout 2-0. They’re playing the Houston Astros at 12:05 this afternoon.

The Kansas City Royals took on the Seattle Mariners yesterday and after the first two innings Seattle was up 5-0. Going into the top of the ninth the Royals were trailing 6-3. Then a Tyler Tolbert home run, Gavin Cross triple, and Stone Russell single scored four runs for the Royals sealing the 7-6 win. The Royals will play the San Diego Padres this afternoon at 3:05.

The Missouri Tigers will play the Mississippi Bulldogs tonight in the second round of the SEC Tournament. The winner of tonight’s game will go on to face second ranked Florida in the quarterfinals on Friday. You can hear this game on KSMO Radio 1340 AM & 95.7 FM. With the pregame show starting at 5:30.

The St. Louis Blues are back on the ice tonight as they’ll be in Pittsburgh to face the Penguins. This is their first meeting in the season. The Blues are in the mix for postseason play at 31-27-7, and just one point behind the Calgary Flames. This game will be on KSMO Radio, on a delay, following the Missouri Tigers Basketball game.

Sports – Wednesday, March 12th 2025

The St. Louis Cardinals played the Miami Marlins yesterday afternoon and were defeated 12-5. The Marlins were able to hit five home runs on the afternoon. Jose Barrero had a good day for the Cards, going two of three at the plate with a pair of runs batted in and a stolen base. The Cardinals will continue their spring training with a game versus the Mets tomorrow afternoon at 12:05.

The Kansas City Royals played the Arizona Diamondbacks yesterday afternoon and lost 3-2. The Diamondbacks scored all of their points in the bottom of the fifth. The Royals would battle back to make it a close game but Arizona would hold on for the win after a Jack Pineda pop out. They’ll face the Seattle Mariners this afternoon at 3:10.

The Missouri Tiger Basketball team is enjoying a bye today, they will play the winner of the LSU and Mississippi State game being played tonight at 6:00. The winner of this game will travel to Columbia to take on the seventh ranked Mizzou Tigers tomorrow evening at 6:00. You can hear this game on KSMO Radio 1340 AM & 95.7 FM. The official start to the NFL’s Free Agency period starts this afternoon at 3:00, and with four wide receivers leaving the Kansas City Chiefs as free agents the Chiefs announced yesterday that they are resigning Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to a one year, $11 million deal. Brown missed significant time last year due to a shoulder injury.
