Sports – Thursday, June 29th, 2023
Jose Altuve’s 8th inning three-run homer followed by a two-run homer by Jose Abreu turned a 7-5 St. Louis lead into a 10-7 loss to the Houston Astros Wednesday. Nolan Arenado hit a three-run homer for St. Louis and Paul Goldschmidt had three hits including a homer and two RBI in the loss. The Cards and Astros play this evening at 5:20 on KSMO Radio.
The Cleveland Guardians pounded Kansas City pitching for 14 hits including three home runs as they scored 14 runs against five Royals pitchers. The Royals have lost seven of their last ten games. Kansas City and Cleveland play this afternoon at Kauffman Stadium.

Paul DeJong hit a solo homer and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly as the St. Louis Cardinals beat Houston Tuesday night, 4-2. Jordan Montgomery went 6 2/3rds innings and got the win. The Cardinals play Houston again tonight at 5:50 on KSMO Radio.
Will Brennan’s two-run double in the 9th inning gave the Cleveland Guardians a 2-1 win over Kansas City Tuesday. The Royals only had two hits in the game. Kansas City and Cleveland play again tonight at Kauffman Stadium.

The St. Louis Cardinals were off Monday and they will face the Houston Astros tonight at 5:50 on KSMO Radio.
The Kansas City Royals had Monday off as well and they begin a three-game set with Cleveland tonight at Kaufmann Stadium.
Sports – Monday, June 26th, 2023
Willson Contreras went 4-4 as St. Louis came back from a 4-0 1st inning deficit to beat the Chicago cubs Sunday, 7-5 to split the series. The Cards will be off today and play Houston Tuesday night at 5:50 on KSMO.
Tampa Bay scored two 7th inning runs and beat Kansas City Sunday, 3-1 to split their four game series. The Royals will have today off.

The Cards were off Thursday and will be off today before facing the Chicago Cubs in London, England starting at 11:15 Saturday on KSMO.
MJ Melendez infield RBI single in the top of the 9th inning gave the Kansas City Royals a 6-5 win over Tampa Bay Thursday night. The Royals and Rays will tangle again tonight in Tampa Bay.
The NHL Hockey Hall of Fame has announced the Class of 2023, which includes former St. Louis Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock, forward Pierre Turgeon and goaltender Tom Barrasso. They will be officially be inducted on November 13th in Toronto.

Trevor Williams of the Washington Nationals pitched six innings of five-hit shutout ball and with the help of three relievers, shutout the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, 3-0. The Cards will have two days off to get to London, England for the two game series with the Chicago Cubs starting Saturday at 11:15.
Freddy Fermin had three hits and two RBI for the Royals, but a four-run 8th inning sealed a 9-4 Detroit win over Kansas City Wednesday afternoon. The Royals will be at Tampa Bay to face the Rays to start a four-game series.

A reminder that Salem High School Lady Softball Coach Bekah (Kirker) Hayes will be holding a softball camp starting Monday, June 26th and lasting through Friday, June 30th for young ladies in grades 9-12 at the City Park Blue Field from 8:00 until 10:00 in the morning. There will also be a camp for girls in the 4th through 8th grades the same week from 10:00 until 11:00 in the morning at the City Park Blue Field. The cost per player is $30 and registration will be held the first day of camp.

The Cards and Nationals play this afternoon at 2:10 on KSMO.
Daniel Lynch pitched seven innings of one-hit ball and Matt Beaty’s 6th inning RBI double drove in the only run as Kansas City beat Detroit Tuesday night, 1-0. The Royals and Tigers will play this afternoon in Detroit.

Trailing 5-0 after two innings, the St. Louis Cardinals battled back and scored two runs in the 3rd inning and then scored four in the 5th inning on a three-run homer by Brendan Donovan followed by a solo homer from Paul Goldschmidt as they went on to beat the Washington Nationals Monday by the score of 8-6. The Cards have won three straight as Jordan Hicks has saves in all three. The Cards and Nationals play tonight starting at 5:10 on KSMO.
The Kansas City Royals jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on a solo homer by Bobby Witt, Jr. and a two-run shot by Maikel Garcia, but Detroit battled back and took the lead on a three-run 7th inning homer by Kerry Carpenter as the Tigers won the game, 6-4. The Royals and Tigers will play again tonight.

Nolan Arenado hit two homers including the game-winner in the top of the 9th inning to give the St. Louis Cardinals an 8-7 win over the new York Mets. Paul DeJong and Jordan Walker also homered for St. Louis who will play Washington today at 2:10 on KSMO.
Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtoni went back-to-back in a three-run 5th inning as the LA Angels of Anaheim beat Zack Greinke and Kansas City Sunday, 5-2. The Royals will be on the road at Detroit tonight to start a three-game series.

A final reminder that Salem Lady Tigers Basketball Coach Cody Woody will be holding a Youth Lady Tiger Basketball Camp June 19th through the 23rd at the Salem High School Gym. Two camps will be held in the mornings: one for girls in kindergarten through the 2nd grade from 8:30 until 9:30, and the other camp for girls from the 3rd through the 5th grade from 10:00 until 11:00. The St. Louis Cardinals, who have lost five straight games and 12 of their last 15, will be in New York to face the Mets tonight at 5:15 on KSMO. The Cards and Mets will also tangle Saturday afternoon at 2:15 and Sunday starting at 11:45 in the morning. All the games can be heard on KSMO Radio.
The Kansas City Royals will try to snap their nine-game losing streak as they will host the LA Angels of Anaheim tonight, then again Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Kauffman Stadium.
