Sports – Friday, July 28th, 2023
Andrew Knizner homered twice and drove in three runs, but the Chicago Cubs banged out 14 hits as they beat St. Louis, 10-3 for their sixth straight win. Cody Bellinger had three hits as did Christopher Morel for the Cubs. The Cards and Cubs play again tonight at 6:20, then at 5:20 Saturday night and on Sunday afternoon at 12:20. All the games can be heard on KSMO Radio, AM 1340 and 95.7 FM.
The Kansas City Royals had the day off and they will start a three-game series at Minnesota against the Twins.

Nolan Gorman hit two homers, while Paul Goldschmidt, Andrew Knizner and Lars Nootbaar also homered as St. Louis beat Arizona, 11-7 Wednesday in Phoenix. Knizner and Gorman each had three RBI for the Cardinals who start a four-game series with the Chicago Cubs tonight at 5:50 on KSMO Radio.
Kansas City pitching gave up seven runs in the first four innings as the Cleveland Guardians beat the Royals Wednesday, 8-3. MJ Melendez homered for Kansas City as they have the day off today before starting a three game series at Minnesota Friday night.

Rookie Corbin Carroll hit a pinch hit two-run triple in the bottom of the 8th inning to put Arizona in front to stay as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday night, 3-1. St. Louis had only five hits in the game. The Red Birds and Diamondbacks play today in the rubber game of the series at 1:45 on KSMO.
Bo Naylor hit two home runs leading the Cleveland Guardians to a 5-1 win over the Kansas City Royals Tuesday night at Cleveland. Nicky Lopez drove in the only run for the Royals who will play the Guardians this afternoon in Cleveland.

Tyler O’Neill’s three-run RBI double capped a five run 9th inning as the Cardinals came from behind to beat Arizona, 10-6. Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt homered for the Red Birds who play Arizona at 7:45 tonight on KSMO.
The Kansas City Royals beat Cleveland Monday night, 5-3 to break their five-game losing streak. Salvador Perez and Maikel Garcia homered for KC who play Cleveland tonight.

Cody Bellinger hit a two-run homer and finished with three RBI as Chicago beat St. Louis Sunday 7-2 and took 3 of 4 games from the Red Birds who will start a three game set tonight in Arizona beginning at 7:45 on KSMO Radio.
Kansas City lost to the New York Yankees Sunday, 8-5 and were swept in the series. The Royals begin a three game series against the Guardians at Cleveland tonight.

Jordan Walker and Paul DeJong each hit two-run homers while Nolan Arenado drove in two runs with w double as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs Thursday night, 7-2 for their sixth straight win. Steve Matz got his first win of the year with five innings of three hit, one run ball. The Cards and Cubs will play three straight afternoon games starting at 12:25 today, Saturday and Sunday on KSMO Radio.
Michael Lorenzen pitched seven innings of three-hit shutout baseball as Detroit beat Zack Grienke and the Kansas City Royals Thursday, 3-0. The Royals begin a three game series at New York against the New York Yankees tonight.
The St. Louis Blues signed forward Alexey Toropchenko to a two-year deal this week. Toropchenko had 19 points last year in limited time with the Blues last year.

Nolan Gorman hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the 1st inning plus an RBI single in the bottom of the 8th to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to sweep the series over the Florida Marlins with a final score of 6 to 4 last night.The Cards will travel to Chicago to play the Cubs tonight, with the pregame starting at 6:10 on KSMO Radio.
Javier Baez hit the only homer to help lead the Detroit Tigers to a win over the Kansas City Royals 3-2 last night. Michael Massey and Kyle Isbel had doubles for Kansas City . They play again this afternoon at 1:10.

Nolan Arenado hit a homerun in the 10th inning for a Cardinals 5-2 win over the Marlins. They play again this afternoon starting with the pregame show at 12:20 on KSMO Radio.
The Kansas City Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 11-10. They play tonight at 7:10 for a chance to win the series.

With a three run sixth inning The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Miami Marlins 6-4 last night. They play again tonight starting with the pregame show at 5:50 on KSMO Radio.
The Kansas City Royals lost to the Detroit Tigers tonight 3-2. They get a another chance for a win tonight at 7:10.

Nolan Gorman hit his 18th homer this season helping the Cards take the series over the Nationals with an 8-4 win Sunday afternoon. The Nationals took Game 1 on Saturday 7-5, the Cards game back in Game 2 with the win 9-6.

Despite catcher Salvador Perez hamstring injury in the second inning. The Kansas City Royals won Sunday afternoon 8-4, but lost the 3 game series to the Tampa Bay Rays. With a 6-1 loss in game 1 on Saturday and a 4-2 loss in game 2. The Royals start a four-game series with Detroit tonight at Kaufmann Stadium.
