Sports – Wednesday, April 2nd 2025

Jason Ingram’s bases clearing double in the 3rd inning help lead the Licking Wildcats to a 12-1 five-inning win over the Salem Tigers Tuesday at the SHS Baseball Field Complex. Licking took advantage of five Salem errors, six walks and two hit batsmen to go along with their eight hits in scoring in every inning but one. Ingram and Cole McCloy each had two hits for the Wildcats who improve to 4-1 on the year. Salem falls to 3-2-1 and will be at Potosi Thursday at 4:30.

Alaina Norris scored four runs, had three hits including a home run, and drove in three runs to lead the Salem Lady Tigers past the Potosi Lady Trojans Tuesday, 17-11. Beatrice Hovey had two hits including a double and four RBI, while Reagan Dubois homered as one of her three hits and drove in three runs. The Tigers improve to 5-3 on the year and they are scheduled to play at Ava Thursday afternoon at 4:30.

The Salem Tennis Tigers improve to 3-0 with a 7-2 road win over Houston yesterday. The Tigers are scheduled to be at Potosi today at 4:00. 

The St. Louis Blues hosted the Detroit Red Wings last night and after two scoreless periods, J.T. Compher broke the tie, scoring first to give the Red Wings a one goal advantage. However the Blues’ Jordan Kyrou would respond with a snap shot goal with less than a minute left to force overtime. Then the Blues’ Cam Fowler scored the final goal of the night to defeat the Detroit, 2-1 and give the Blues their tenth win in a row.

The St. Louis Cardinals and Los Angeles Angels played game two of their three game series and just like the night before, needed extra innings to complete the contest. Going into the bottom of the tenth, the Cards trailed by three when Luken Baker doubled to bring Masyn Winn and Taylor Ward home. A Nolan Arenado single tied up the game at six. In the eleventh, the Angles again put the pressure on the Cards by batting in three more runs, and held on to defeat the Cardinals, 9-7. The Kansas City Royals were in Milwaukee to face the Brewers last night and weren’t able to get much offense going as they were shutout by the Brewers, 5-0.

Sports – Tuesday, April 1st 2025

Landon Kramme and Chris Allen slugged 1st inning grand slams as the Owensville Dutchmen plated 14 first inning runs and added five more in the second inning as they beat the Salem Tigers Monday at Owensville, 19-1. Allen finished with six RBI and Kramme had five as Salem loses their first game of the year to fall to 3-1-1. The Tigers host the Licking Wildcats today at the SHS Baseball Field Complex starting at 4:30 and you can hear the games on KSMO Radio and video stream them on KSMO Media beginning around 4:15 with Tiger Talk and Coach Tony Edwards.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will be at Potosi today to face the Lady Trojans starting at 4:30. Salem enters the game with a 4-3 record.

The Salem High School Golf Team will begin their season today hosting the Salem Open at the Spring Creek Golf Club beginning today at 3:00.

The Salem Tennis team will be at Houston today after starting the season out 2-0 with wins over Licking and West Plains. The match will begin at 4:00.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Detroit Red Wings tonight at Scottrade Center. The Blues have won their last nine straight games as well as the last nine games at home. KSMO will air the game on a delayed basis starting at 9:30 or will join the delayed game in progress immediately after St. Louis Cardinals baseball.

The St. Louis Cardinals took on the Los Angeles Angels last night in a close one. In the first Lars Nootbaar homered to get the red birds on the board first. In the second Brendan Donovan also hit a home run to put the Cards up 2-0. The Angles would battle back and by the end of nine, extra innings were needed. At the end of the tenth inning it was the Angels coming away with a 5-4 victory. They’ll play eachother again tonight at 6:45. The Kansas City Royals played the Brewers yesterday and absolutely decimated them by a score of 11-1. Maikel Garcia and Salvador Perez each tallied a home run during the game. The Royals and Brewers are back at it tonight with the first pitch crossing home plate at 6:40.

Sports – Monday, March 31st 2025

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers went 1-2 in the SCA Tournament at Mountain Grove this past Saturday. In the first game, Salem beat Houston, 10-2 with Molly Fleener going 3-3 with an RBI with Bailey Mahurin getting two hits and driving in two runs. Salem then played the Thayer Lady Bobcats in the winner’s bracket and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, but that was all the Tigers could muster as a five-run 3rd inning by Thayer led them to a 6-2 win. Bailey Mahurin had two hits and drove in both Salem runs against Thayer. In the 3rd place game Saturday afternoon against the Willow Springs Lady Bears, Salem scored a run in the top of the 1st inning to take the lead, but a nine-run 3rd inning by the Lady Bears, fueled by a number of Salem errors, helped them to an 11-1 win in four-innings. Salem was held to two hits and the lone run was driven in by Alaina Norris. The Lady Tigers are now 4-3 on the year and they will be at Potosi Tuesday at 4:30.

The Salem Boys Baseball Tigers will be at Owensville this afternoon starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Tony Edwards at 4:10. Salem enters the game with a 3-0-1 record. That game can be heard on KSMO Radio (AM 1340 and 95.7 FM) and audio streamed on KSMO Media.

The Salem Track teams will be at Cuba today starting at 2:00 for the Cuba Relays.

Pavel Buchnevich’s 3rd period goal on a rebound of a Ryan Suter shot, and clutch goaltending by Jordan Binnington down the stretch gave the Blues a 2-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche and extended the Blues winning streak to nine games. Zach Bolduc scored the other Blues goal in the first period. 

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Minnesota Twins in each of their first three games, beginning the season with a sweep. The Cardinals are back in action tonight against the Los Angeles Angels. The first pitch will be at 6:45 this evening and you can hear this game live on KSMO Radio following the Salem Tigers Baseball game.

The Kansas City Royals lost their three game series against the Cleveland Guardians over the weekend
2-1. They’ll playing the Brewers this afternoon at 1:10.

Sports – Friday, March 28th 2025

Bryar Bobbitt went 3-3 with two RBI to help lead the Salem Baseball Tigers to a 7-3 win over the Ellington Whippets. Roy Stevens hit a two-run homer for Salem while Kash Howard and Jaxon Raulston drove in the other runs for Salem with Raulston also having two hits. Salem is now 3-0-1 on the season and they will be in Owensville Monday to face the Dutchman starting at 4:15 on KSMO Radio and audio streamed on KSMO Media.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will be at Mountain Grove Saturday for their SCA Tournament. Salem will face Houston in the first game of the day at 9:00 on Field 1. Salem enters the tournament with a 3-1 record.

The Salem Tennis Tigers beat Licking Tuesday, 8-1, before defeating West Plains Thursday, 6 matches to 3. Salem is now 2-0 on the year and they will be at Houston Tuesday at 4:00.

The Salem Track teams will be at the School of the Osage today for their first track meet of the year starting at 4:00.

The Salem High School Golf Team will host the Salem Open on Tuesday, April 1st at 3:00 at the Spring Creek Golf Club. 

The St. Louis Cardinals and Minnesota Twins had their game delayed by about an hour and a half due to rain. Afterwards the Cards wasted no time getting on the board by scoring in each of the first three innings. An eighth inning home run by Nolan Arenado propelled the Cardinals to a 5-3 victory. The Cards play the Twins tomorrow and Sunday afternoon with identical start times of 1:15. Listen to both of these games live on KSMO Radio, with coverage beginning at 12:20.

The Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Guardians opened up the season in Kansas City and it was Cleveland getting their first win, 7-4.

The St. Louis Blues played the Nashville Predators last night and after trailing 2-0 early, Dylan Holloway, got the Blues on the board in the second. Trailing in the third, Cam Fowler and Dylan Holloway each scored within 22 seconds of each other for the 3-2 victory. The Blues play the Colorado Avalanche tomorrow night, listen to this game on KSMO Radio, on a delay, at 4:30. 

Sports – Thursday, March 27th 2025

The month of March has seen a number of Dent County youth be very successful in a variety of sporting events. On March 15th Salem’s Liam Duncan teamed up with Bolivar Middle School’s Fisher Williams to win The Bass Federation of Missouri State Championship in their division at Table Rock Lake. Their 5-fish winning total of 16.13 pounds qualifies Liam and Fisher to compete in The Bass Federation Junior World Championship on Lake Oahe in South Dakota July 30th through August 1st. The Missouri National Archery in Schools Program (MoNASP) State Archery Championships were held March 19th through 22nd in Branson. Over 4,000 students from nearly 300 schools competed during the four-day event. Northwood R-IV’s Wyatt Clancy won his division in the 3D Competition with a score of 290. The Salem Tiger 7th grade traveling basketball team coached by Amber Duncan and Brandon Scholemer competed in the Missouri State Basketball Championship in Columbia March 21st through the 23rd. The team won all 4 games in the 7th Grade Silver Division outscoring their opponents 184 to 147 to secure their State Championship.

Alaina Norris struck out 15 Lady War Hawks and was supported offensively as Salem banged out ten hits as the Lady Tigers beat Bourbon Wednesday, 6-3. Salem was led by Bailey Mahurin and Molly Fleener who each had two hits and two RBI as the Lady Tigers move to 3-1 on the year. Alexis White and Shaylee Thomas also had two hits for the Lady Tigers who will play in the SCA Tournament in Mountain Grove this Saturday on Field #1 starting at 9:00 in the morning against Houston.

Addison Fulton homered and drove in three runs while three other Lady Tigers had two hits and two RBI’s including Alaina Norris, Bailey Mahurin and Beatrice Hovey as Salem rolled to a 15-0 whitewashing of Ellington in three innings. Salem scored two runs in the 1st inning, six more in the 2nd inning and seven in the 3rd inning for the win. Salem also got two RBIs from Olivia Bettigrew and Shaylee Thomas as Salem finished with 11 hits. The Lady Tigers are 2-1 on the year and will host the Bourbon Lady War Hawks this afternoon at 4:00 at the Salem City Park, this was the game that was scheduled for this Friday but was moved up due to pending weather. The St. Louis Blues played the Montréal Canadiens last night and in the first held the Canadiens to just five shots on goal, while scoring twice off the stick of Jordan Kyrou and Dylan Holloway. In the second the Blues would tack on another pair of goals from Robert Thomas and Alexandre Texier. After three periods of play Philip Broberg and Zack Bolduc became the fifth and sixth player for St. Louis to score as the Blues easily defeated the Montréal Canadiens by a score of 5-1. The Blues are on a seven game win streak as the look to lockup a wild card spot and punch their ticket into post-season play. The Blues are back on the ice tomorrow night. They’ll be traveling out to Nashville to take on the Predators for the third time in ten days. In Monday’s sports report, we erroneously said the Salem Lady Tigers lost to Portageville in the first game of their round robin tournament Saturday in Ellsinore, 10-9. The Lady Tigers actually won that game with two runs in the bottom of the last inning to beat Portageville, 11-10. We apologize for the error. They will have their home opener today starting at 4:30 against Ellington. Cayden Moody went 3-4 with three runs scored and an RBI to help lead the Salem Baseball Tigers to an 8-4 win over Steelville Monday at Steelville. Corby Ball had a hit and three RBI for Salem who banged out ten hits in the game and took advantage of three Steelville errors. Bryar Bobbitt got the start and the win for Salem, and Dannon Berry threw 2 1/3rds innings of scoreless relief to seal the victory. Salem is now 2-0-1 on the year and will play Ellington Thursday at the SHS Baseball Field Complex in a game whose start time has been moved up to 4:00. That game will only be video streamed on KSMO Media due to it being the St. Louis Cardinals Opening Day Ceremonies.

The Salem Boys Baseball Tigers opened their 2025 spring season with a win and tie in the opening doubleheader held Saturday at the SHS Baseball Field Complex. In the first game with Vienna, Salem scored in every inning but the third and came away with an 8-4 win. Bryar Bobbit had two hits and two RBI, and Sylis Dubois also had two hits for Salem. Kash Howard had two RBI for Salem. In the second game, Salem scored two runs in the bottom of the 5th inning and finished with a 2-2 tie with Father Tolton. Salem had only two hits, one by Dubois and the other was an RBI hit by Howard. Salem will be at Steelville today to play the Cardinals starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Tony Edwards around 4:15 on KSMO Radio and audio streamed on KSMO Media. 

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers Saturday played in the East Carter Round Robin Tournament and lost both games to the opposing teams in their final at bat. In the first game, Salem had a 9-6 lead going into the last inning, but Portageville scored four times to beat Salem, 10-9. Reagan Dubois had two hits and two RBI to lead Salem followed by Mackenzie Radford with two hits. Alaina Norris finished with a double and four RBI for the Lady Tigers. In the second game with East Carter, Salem scored five runs in the top of the last inning to take the lead, only to have the Lady Redbirds score five runs in the bottom of the inning for a 13-11 win over Salem. Dubois had two hits including a homer and drove in five runs to lead the Lady Tigers. Salem will host Ellington Tuesday at the Salem City Park, and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio or video stream the game on KSMO Media starting at 4:15 with Tiger Talk and Coach Cody Woody. 

Alexey Toropchenko and Nathan Walker each had a goal and an assist for the St. Louis Blues, defeating the Chicago Blackhawks at Enterprise Center, 4-1. Robert Thomas and Zack Bolduc also scored for the Blues on the night. Then on Sunday, Dalibor Dvorsky had his NHL debut as the Blues faced off with the Nashville Predators. Jordan Kyrou, Alexandre Texier, Justin Faulk, and Brayden Schenn each scored a goal to defeat the Nashville Predators, 4-1. The Blues are on a season-high six game winning streak.

The St. Louis Cardinals had a pair of split squad losses on Friday, losing to the Astros, 5-3, and the Mets, 3-2. On Saturday they defeated the Marlins 8-2, and in their final game of spring training on Sunday they lost late in the 9th to the Washington Nationals, 2-1. The Cardinals will open the regular season hosting the Minnesota Twins this Thursday afternoon at 3:15, you can listen to this game live on KSMO Radio with coverage beginning at 1:35.

The Kansas City Royals picked up wins in two of their last three games, losing to the Athletics 10-1 and defeating the Mariners 8-7 in a split squad game on Friday. They defeated the Rangers yesterday, 9-5. The Royals will play the Rangers again this evening at 7:05.

Salem Tiger Spring Sports have begun!!!! The Salem Track and Field Teams will have a practice meet today at 3:00 at Fredericktown.

The Salem Tiger Baseball Team will open their regular season with a doubleheader Saturday at the SHS Field. Salem will face Vienna Saturday morning at 9:00 followed by the Cuba and Father Tolten game starting around 11:30. Then the losers of the first two games will play each other at 2:00, followed by the winners of the first two games playing each other at 4:30.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will participate in the East Carter round-robin tournament at Ellsinore Saturday. Salem will play Portageville at 12:30 and then face East Carter at 2:00.

The Missouri Tigers faced the Drake Bulldogs last night in a low scoring affair, in the end the Bulldogs would upset the Tigers 67-57, ending Mizzou’s season with a 22-12 record. 

The St. Louis Blues hosted the Vancouver Canucks last night and in a close one, Zack Bolduc would put the first points on the board with a wrist shot late in the second period. In the third there would be no shortage of goals scored but it was the last second goal from the Canucks’ Brock Boeser pushing the game into overtime. Just under 4 minutes into overtime Philip Broberg put in a backhand shot giving the Blues the 4-3 victory. The Blues will be busy this weekend as they host the Chicago Blackhawks tomorrow afternoon at 2:00. On Sunday the Blues will host the Nashville Predators at 5:00 in the afternoon. The Cardinals are nearing the end of their spring training schedule. Today they have split squad games versus the Astros at 12:05 and the Mets at 12:10. On Saturday the Cards will play the Marlins at 12:10 and on Sunday play the Washington Nationals at 12:05. Listen to Sunday’s game live on KSMO Radio.

The 6th ranked Missouri Tigers start their NCAA Tournament play tonight against the 11th Drake Bulldogs. The winner of this game will advance to round 2 to face either 14th seeded UNC Wilmington or 3rd seeded Texas Tech.
