Blake Edwards went the distance for the Salem Baseball Tigers giving up just four hits and a run as the Salem Baseball Tigers captured at least a share of the SCA Conference Championship with a 10-1 win over the Thayer Bobcats on Thursday at the SHS Baseball Field. Edwards also had two of the Salem seven hits in the game. Roy Stevens drove in three runs with a single and sacrifice fly, and Cayden Moody drove in two runs with walks. Salem is 10-6-1 on the year and finish with a 6-1 SCA Conference record. Salem could win the conference outright if the Willow Springs Bears beat the Ava Bears Tuesday. The next game for Salem will be Monday when they play at West Plains starting at 4:30.
JJ Smith and Braiden Gapsch made the Class 1, District 5 All-District team by finishing 4th in the Tennis doubles’ tournament. Blayne Canaday also made the All-District team by finishing 4th in the singles tournament. The Salem Tigers will play Willow Springs in the team district tournament Monday at 4:00 at the Salem Park.
The Salem High School Track and Field teams were in St. James yesterday. The Salem Boys Varsity team took first place overall out of 13 schools, while the girls varsity team took fifth overall out of 14 teams.
The Cincinnati Reds scored nine runs on nine hits including a two-run homer by Jose Trevino which would be all the offense they would need as the beat the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday, 9-1. The Cards only run scored on an error by the Reds. The Cardinals come home to face the New York Mets this weekend with the broadcast starting tonight at 6:20, then starting at 12:20 Saturday and Sunday on KSMO Radio.
Bobby Witt, Jr, had a two-run homer as the Kansas City Royals beat the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday, 8-2. Maikel Garcia had three hits for the Royals who will be in Baltimore to face the Orioles this weekend.
The St. Louis Blues are in a “must win” situation tonight as they host the Winnipeg Jets at 7:00 tonight trailing in the best of seven game series, 3 games to 2 in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The game will be delayed on KSMO until 9:30 after Cards baseball.

Liam Duncan and Fisher Williams won the MoBass Junior State Championship this past Sunday, April 27th, at the Pomme De Terre Lake with an 8.05-pound limit. Duncan and Williams are now qualified to compete for the Bassmaster Junior National Championship on Clark’s Hill Lake in Evan, Georgia on July 25th and 26th. Congratulations guys!
The Class 1, District 5 Individual Tennis Tournament of which Salem players are involved and hosted by Logan Rogersville scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed and will be rescheduled at a date to be determined.
The Salem Boys Baseball Tigers are scheduled to host the Thayer Bobcats today at 4:30, weather permitting. With a win, Salem will be guaranteed at least a tie for the SCA Conference Championship, and if Ava should lose to Willow Springs, the Tigers would win the conference outright. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers game at Ava Wednesday was postponed due to the wet conditions and has been rescheduled for Monday, May 5th at 4:30 in a varsity only game.
The Salem Track teams will be participating in the St. James Invitational today starting at 3:00, weather permitting.
The St. Louis Blues played in game five of their tied series against the Jets in Winnipeg last night. Despite two Nathan Walker goals and a Jimmy Snuggerud goal the Blues fell, 5-3.
The St. Louis Cardinals played a double header yesterday and overwhelmed the Cincinnati Reds by shutting them out in the first game, 6-0. In the second game the Cards scored early and often for a 9-1 win. The final game of the series will be live on KSMO Radio this morning at 10:45.
The Kansas City Royals shutout the Tampa Bay Rays last night, 3-0. They’ll go for the sweep this afternoon with first pitch at 12:10.

The Sullivan Eagles scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back as they beat the Salem Baseball Tigers Tuesday at Sullivan, 11-1. Dannon Berry had two hits for Salem and Corby Ball drove in the only Tigers run in the 3rd inning. Salem is now 9-6-1 on the year and they are scheduled to play Thayer Thursday at 4:30 at the SHS Baseball Field Complex.
The Salem Lady Softball Tigers game with Stoutland Tuesday was postponed due to rain. No makeup date, if any has been set. The Lady Tigers are scheduled to be at Ava today at 4:30, weather permitting.
The Salem Lady Softball Tigers have been seeded 2nd in district play with their first game at 3:00 on Thursday, May 8th at Potosi against Kingston.
Individual district play for the Salem Tennis Tigers begins today to be hosted by Logan-Rogersville. Team districts will start May 5th in Springfield and Salem is seeded 4th behind Catholic, Rogersville and Osage in the 9-team district.
The St. Louis Cardinals were in Cincinnati last night but had their game rained out. Today they’ll make it up in a split doubleheader. The Kansas City Royals got on the board first against the Tampa Bay Rays with a Salvador Perez double allowing Jonathan India to score. Drew Waters and Maikel Garcia would each cross home plate as the Royals earn a 3-1 victory. They’ll play again tonight at 6:05

A Mountain Grove error on a double by Bryar Bobbitt of Salem allowed Blake Edwards to score what ended up being the game winning run in the bottom of the 6th inning as the Salem Tigers edged the Mountain Grove Panthers Monday, 3-2. Bobbitt and Roy Stevens, who tied the game with an RBI single in the 6th, each had two hits for the Tigers. In both the 5th and 7th innings, the Salem drawn-in infield threw out Panther Sam Peterson who tried to score on a ground ball to preserve the win. Salem is 9-5-1 on the year and 5-1 in the SCA Conference. Salem is scheduled to be in Sullivan today at 4:30. The Salem Tigers golf team finished 3rd in the SCA Conference Golf Tournament held Monday. The Willow Springs Bears shot a 325 to win the tournament followed by the Ava Bears with 329 strokes. Salem finished with 340 strokes. Aiden Summers finished 2nd overall in the tournament shooting a 79. He also was named to the All SCA -Conference 1st team. Congratulations!
The Salem JV Track Teams will compete at the Farmington JV Track Meet starting at 3:00 today.
The St. Louis Cardinals were in Cincinnati last night for a first of four games against the Reds. The Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead off the bat of Nolan Arenado allowing Lars Nootbaar to score. Unfortunately for the Cardinals that would be the only run batted in as the Cards fell to the Reds, 3-1. Game two is tonight with first pitch at 5:40. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers took 3rd Place in the Salem Softball Classic held on Saturday after Friday’s event was postponed. In the first game against Bourbon, Alaina Norris threw a one-hitter as Salem won, 6-1 in six innings. Tayler Fulton had two hits. and Bailey Mahurin had three RBI to lead the Tigers. In the second game, Ava had ten hits and were helped by seven Salem errors as the Lady Bears beat Salem, 11-1 in five innings. In the 3rd place game, Salem got two hits from Fulton, Norris and Reagan Dubois including a solo home run to beat Plato by the score of 6-4. The Lady Eagles stranded 12 girls and had several chances, but the Tigers defense held. Salem is now 11-9 on the year and the Lady Tigers will be at Stoutland on Tuesday at 4:30.
The Salem Boys Baseball game Friday with Plato was postponed due to rain. No makeup date was announced. Salem will host Mountain Grove in another key SCA matchup this afternoon against Mountain Grove starting at 4:30 at the SHS Baseball Field Complex. Salem is 8-5-1 on the year and 4-1 in the SCA Conference. The game will be on KSMO Radio, and video streamed on KSMO Media beginning about 4:15 with Tiger Talk and Coach Tony Edwards.
The Salem Tennis Tigers beat Potosi Saturday, 7-2, and will begin individual Class 1, District 5 play on Wednesday at Logan-Rogersville High School.
The Salem Tiger Golf Team will participate in the SCA Conference Golf Tournament today.
The Salem JV Track Team will be at the School of the Osage Open today starting at 4:00.
The St. Louis Blues hosted the Winnipeg Jets last night. The Jets scored first off a Kyle Connor backhand shot halfway through the first period. After that goal, Jake Neighbours would be the first of five Blues players to respond with of goal of their own, defeating the Jets in a 5-1 landslide. This evens up the series at two a piece. Both teams travel back to Winnipeg for game five at 8:30 this Wednesday evening.
The St. Louis Cardinals finished up their three game series against the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend, winning the first two games by a single run. Friday’s final was 3-2 and Saturday’s win was 6-5. Yesterday Lars Nootbaar scored on a Brendan Donovan double scoring the only run for the Cards as they fell 7-1. The Cardinals will start a new four game series against the Cincinnati Reds late this afternoon at 5:40. The Kansas City Royals shutout the Houston Astros on Friday and Saturday by a score of 2-0. However yesterday the Astros would win a game in the short series, 7-3. The Royals are off today.

The Salem Tiger Tennis Team won the SCA Conference Tournament yesterday held in Salem and are the 2025 SCA Champions. Congratulations to Coach Hubbs and all the players on a fine year!
Kash Howard’s bottom of the 7th inning two out, two-RBI hit capped off an improbable six-run comeback after a rain delay at the SHS Baseball Field Complex as the Salem Baseball Tigers came back to beat the Mountain View-Liberty Eagles Thursday, 6-5. Cayden Moody and Howard each had two hits and two RBI for Salem who stopped their three-game losing streak and improved to 8-5-1, 4-1 in the SCA Conference. The win keeps their conference title hopes alive. They will be at Plato today at 4:30.
The Mountain Grove Lady Panthers scored three runs in the 1st inning with two outs and four runs in the second inning with two outs, then held on to beat the Salem Lady Softball Tigers in a rain shortened five-inning game, 9-4. Reagan Dubois had two hits, and Taylor Fulton had a two-run double for Salem in the loss as they fall to 9-8 on the year and 2-4 in the SCA Conference. The Salem Lady Tigers will hold their Salem Softball Classic today and tomorrow at the Salem City Park with round robin play starting at 3:15. Saturday play will begin at 9:00 in the morning.
The Salem Tigers Track Teams will be at Mountain Grove for a meet starting Saturday morning at 10:00.
The St. Louis Blues hosted the Winnipeg Jets for the first time in postseason play and Pavel Buchnevich set the tone early with a pair of goals within four minutes. He earn the hat trick in the third as the Blues blew out the Jets, 7-2.

Tyler Tomes and Austin Dungey had two-run singles, and Clayton Ingram finished 3-4 with two RBI as the St. Clair Bulldogs shutout the Salem Tigers Wednesday, 10-0 in five innings. The Tigers had only two hits as they fell for the third straight game and are now 7-5-1 on the year. Salem will host the Mountain View-Liberty Eagles today at 4:30 at the SHS Baseball Field Complex. Salem is 3-1 in the SCA Conference.

The St. Louis Cardinals were in Atlanta again yesterday afternoon for the final game of a tied three game series. The Cards got on the board right away in the top of the first off of a Nolan Arenado double allowing Nolan Gorman to score. Unfortunately for St. Louis, that would be the only run batted in as they fell to the Braves 4-1. The Cardinals have the day off today.

The 7th and 8th Grade Salem Middle School football teams are invited to the Bill Schuchardt Stadium for a photo opportunity this afternoon at 5:00. A banner for each team was recently purchased to commemorate their 2024 undefeated seasons. Organizers will be taking a team picture with the banners that were generously donated by The Thompson Family at Salem Farm Equipment and Nick Gover at Quality Drywall Services. The banners will then be proudly displayed in the Salem Middle School.

The Salem Tiger Boys Tennis team was in Osage yesterday afternoon and lost in a close one, 4-5. The team continues their schedule on the road in West Plains today.
The St. Louis Cardinals were in Atlanta last night for game two of three against the Braves. Early in the third a Lars Nootbaar home run put the first two runs of the game on the board. Atlanta responded with four runs until a Masyn Winn single and Dylan Lee wild pitch tied up the game at four. The Cards then broke open the game scoring six unanswered runs to defeat Atlanta, 10-4. Tied up at a game a piece they’ll wrap up the series on KSMO Radio with coverage starting at 10:20 this morning.
The Kansas City Royals hosted the Colorado Rockies last night. The Royals scored first in the sixth and again in the eighth, carrying a two run advantage into the ninth when Colorado rallied batting in three runs. A Michael Massey sacrifice fly allowed Freddy Fermin to score, pushing the game into extra innings. The Royals would go on to defeat the Rockies in the eleventh inning, 4-3. Game two is tonight at 6:40.

Raven Gilliam’s 7th inning RBI game winning single gave the Salem Lady Softball Tigers a 14-13 win over the Mountain View-Liberty Lady Eagles Monday at the Salem City Park. Salem fell behind 9-3 early in the game, rallied to lead the game 11-9, then saw the Lady Eagles score four runs in the 7th inning to take the lead before Salem rallied in the 7th. Alaina Norris had three hits and three RBI for the Lady Tigers who improve to 9-7 on the year and 2-3 in the SCA Conference. They will host Mountain Grove Thursday afternoon.

The St. Louis Cardinals began their series versus the Atlanta Braves yesterday and didn’t trail in the game until the bottom of the eighth when the Braves went on a five run spree. Going into the ninth, trailing by four, Willson Contreras homered out to left center bringing in Victor Scott II but it just wouldn’t be enough for the rally as the Cards lost the game 7-6. Their next game is tonight in Atlanta with first pitch at 6:15. KSMO Radio will join this game live following Salem Tiger Baseball.

A two-run double by Carson Sutphin in the 5th inning helped propel the Waynesville Tigers to a 4-2 victory over the Salem Baseball Tigers Friday in Salem. Salem has now lost two straight games and will try to get back on the winning track as they face Thayer today at the SHS baseball field complex at 4:30, if field conditions allow. Salem will be the visitor as the game was moved from Thayer due to the flood damage sustained by their field. Salem enters the game with a 7-4-1 record while Thayer is 7-3 on the year and have won their last six straight. Salem is 3-1 in the SCA Conference while Thayer is 3-0. If played, the game can be heard on KSMO Radio and video streamed on KSMO Media beginning at 4:15 with Tiger Talk and Coach Tony Edwards.

The Salem Tigers Tennis Team beat the Willow Springs Bears and Houston Tigers Friday by the scores of 7-2 and 7-2. They are 8-2 on the year and have won their last four straight matches. They will host the Mountain View-Liberty Eagles today at the Salem City Park.
The St. Louis Blues began their postseason on Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets. The Blues would score first with a wrist shot by Robert Thomas before a pair of Jets goals. Oskar Sundqvist would tie the game up at two to end the first. Jordan Kyrou scored early in the second and the score would stand at 3-2 Blues until the third period when the Jets piled on three goals to defeat the Blues, 5-3.
