The Salem High School has announced the Tigers Awards for the 2023-2024 school year. Haiden Sanders was this year’s recipient for the boys and the Lady Tiger Award went to Emily Strange. Congratulations Emily and Haiden!!

Salem High School Boys Basketball Coach Jared Patterson will be holding a Boys Youth Basketball Camp for children going into 6th grade through the 12th grade. The camps will begin on Tuesday, June 4th through Thursday, the 6th at the Salem High School Gym. The 6th graders through 8th graders camp will be from 4:00 until 5:45 followed by the 9th through 12th grade camp from 6:00 until 8:00. The cost is $30 per child and each camper will get a T-shirt. Nolan Gorman and Matt Carpenter homered and Andre Pallante pitched six innings of three hit ball St. Louis beat Cincinnati, 5-3 Wednesday to win the series, two games to one. The Red Birds will be off today.

Seth Lugo earned his 9th win of the year with six innings of three-hit ball as Kansas city scored four runs in the 3rd inning and beat Minnesota, 6-1. The Royals and Twins play today.

Nolan Arenado and Nolan Gorman each hit-two run homers and Kyle Gibson went six innings of one-hit ball as St. Louis beat the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday, 7-1. The teams play the rubber game of the series this morning it 11:15 on KSMO.

The Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals Tuesday night, 4-2 to send the Royals to their 3rd straight loss. The Royals and Twins play again tonight at Target Field.

Sports – Tuesday, May 28th, 2024

Two Salem Tigers were named to the Class 4, District 4 Baseball All-District Team from play in St. Clair. Those players were Trethan Richter and Blake Edwards. Congratulations!

For the Salem Lady Softball Tigers, Kyleigh Wood was named to the Class 4, District 3 All- District Team from play at Potosi. Congratulations Kyleigh!

Paul Goldschmidt homered for the second straight game, but that was all the St. Louis offense could muster, plus errors by Nolan Arenado and Goldschmidt led to two unearned runs in the second inning that proved to be the difference as Cincinnati beat the Cards Monday, 3-1. The teams play today at 4:45 on KSMO.

The Kansas City Royals scored four runs in the top of the 9th inning, but fell short in their comebcak bid as they lost to the Minnesota Twins Monday, 6-5 for their second straight loss after eight straight wins. The Royals and Twins play again tonight at Target Field.

The All-SCA Conference selections have been released and seven Salem Baseball Tigers and one Lady Softball Tiger was named to the conference teams. First, congratulations goes to Coach Tony Edwards for being named the SCA Conference Baseball Coach of the Year for leading the Salem Baseball Tigers to a share of the SCA Conference Championship. Named to the All-SCA Conference Baseball 1st Team were pitcher Kaiden Dubois, infielder Trethan Richter and outfielder Cayden Moody. Named to the All-SCA Conference Baseball 2nd team was infielder Owen Hamilton, and named to the All-SCA Conference Baseball Honorable Mention Team were catcher Haiden Sanders, pitcher Blake Edwards and outfielder Kash Howard. For the Lady Softball Tigers, named to the All-SCA Conference Softball Honorable Mention Team was catcher Reagan Dubois. Congratulations to all these students for an outstanding season!

The Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs will square off this weekend at Busch Stadium. Tonight’s game will begin at 6:20, Saturday night at 5:20 and Sunday night at 5:10. The Red Birds are 23-26 and are five games behind Milwaukee in the Central Division. They are a game and a half behind Chicago for 2nd Place in the division. All the games can be heard on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Royals will play at Tampa Bay this weekend against the Rays. The Royals are 32-19 and are a game and half behind Cleveland in the Central Division. The Royals have won their last six straight games.

Sports – Thursday, May 23rd, 2024

Nolan Gorman’s two-run homer in the 6th inning of the suspended game gave St. Louis a 3-1 win in the first game. Then Brendan Donovan drove in two runs with a 6th inning double and scored on an error in the second game, but the difference was a Masyn Winn 7th inning homer as the Cardinals beat Baltimore, 5-4 and swept the three game series Wednesday at Bush Stadium. The Cardinals will have the day off today and play Chicago this weekend.

Cole Ragans struck out 12 batters in six plus innings to lead the Kansas City Royals to an 8-3 win over Detroit and the second straight three game sweep for the Royals who have won six straight games. The Royals will be off today and play at Tampa Bay this weekend.

The Cardinals hosted the Baltimore Orioles yesterday and after a long rain delay the game was suspended. They will resume yesterday’s 1-1 tie game today at 11:15 and then play game 2 aproximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game 1. Tune into KSMO 1340 AM or 95.7 FM for both Cardinal games.

The Royals beat the Tigers yesterday by a score of 10-3. They play again this afternoon at 1:10 to finish up the series they currently lead 3-0.

Salem Lady Tiger Basketball Coach Cody Woody will be holding a Youth Salem Lady Tiger Basketball Camp at the Salem High School from June10th through the 13th. The cost for the camp is $30 per athlete and each girl will receive a camp T-shirt. The morning camp for the 3rd through 5th grade girls will be held from 11:00 to 12:00; the camp for the 6th through 8th grade girls will be from 9:30 until 10:30; and the camp for girls in 9th through the 12th grade will be from 8:00 until 9:30. Contact Coach Woody to get a camp form to fill out at cody.woody@salemr80.org. Please include the camp fee (checks can be made out to Cody Woody) when girls bring their completed form to the first day of camp at the high school gym.

Michael Siani hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 6-3 win over Baltimore Monday night. Sonny Gray got the win for St. Louis who play Baltimore again tonight at 5:50 on KSMO.

Kansas City scored six runs in the 6th inning and came back to beat Detroit Monday night, 8-3. The Royals play the Tigers again tonight.

Sports – Monday, May 20th, 2024

The St. Louis Cardinals fell to Boston Sunday, 11-3, but won two of the three games this weekend getting 14 hits in each of those games. They will begin a three-game series with Orioles of Baltimore tonight at 5:50 on KSMO.

The Kansas City Royals swept the Oakland A’s this weekend wining yesterday, 8-4. The Royals have won three straight and host the Detroit Tigers tonight Kaufmann Stadium.

A Boys Youth Basketball Camp for children going into kindergarten through the 5th grade will be held Tuesday, May 28th through Thursday, May 30th at the Salem Upper Elementary Gym. The Kindergarteners through 2nd graders camp will be from 4:00 until 5:00 followed by the 3rd through 5th grade camp from 5:30 until 7:00. The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off and will begin a three-game series with Boston tonight at Busch Stadium. The game tonight will be at 6:20, Saturday night at 5:20 and Sunday’s game start time has been changed to 12:05 due a new Major League Baseball deal with Roku. All the games can be heard on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Royals begin a three game series at Kaufmann Stadium tonight against the Oakland Athletics. The Royals are in second place 1.5 games behind Cleveland as of Friday.

Sports – Thursday, May 16th, 2024

Chase Weirich struck out the first nine Salem Tigers he faced to help lead the Owensville Dutchmen to a 5-1 win over Salem Wednesday night in District play. Weirich went 6 2/3rds innings and finished with 12 strikeouts and gave up only four hits. Trethan Richter had a two hits for Salem and Kaiden Dubois drove in the only Salem run. The Tigers finished the season with a 16-5 record.

The LA Angels of Anaheim scored four 1st inning runs and never looked back as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals Wednesday, 7-2. St. Louis has the day off today before starting a three game series at home with Boston Friday.

The Kansas City Royals lost to the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, 4-2 as Seattle took the series, two games to one. The Royals will also be off today before starting a three game series at home with Oakland.
