The Salem Boys Baseball Tigers are scheduled to play the Willow Springs Bears today at 4:30 at the Salem High School Baseball Field Complex. It will be the final game of he regular season before the Tigers play the winner of the Cuba/Oensville game on Monday at St. Clair in District Play. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio AM 1340 and 95.7, and video stream the game on KSMO Media featuring KSMO Stream Page, ksmoradio.com and KSMO YouTube. Should the game be rained out, the Senior Activities will still be held starting on the field at 5:30.

The St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets game Wednesday was postponed due to rain and will be made up at 4:15 on August 5th. The Cardinals begin a four-game series in Milwaukee tonight. You can hear the game on KSMO immediately after Salem Tiger Baseball.

Brady Singer went 5 1/3rd innings of one run ball, Bobby Witt Jr homered and the Kansas City Royals beat the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday, 6-4. The Royals took two of three from the Brewers. They will start a four game series in Anaheim against the LA Angels tonight.

The St. Louis Blues have announced they have signed Coach Drew Bannister to a two-year contract to make him the 27th head coach in franchise history. This past season, Bannister guided the team to significant improvements in several categories, including a climb from 23rd to 12th in goals-against per game, 31st to 13th in power play, 20th to 13th in penalty kill, and 21st to 16th in the final regular-season standings with a record of 43-33-6.

Sports – Wednesday, May 8th, 2024

Salem High School Boys Basketball Coach Jared Patterson will be holding a Boys Youth Basketball Camp for children going into kindergarten through the 5th grade. The camps will be held the afternoons of Tuesday, May 28th through Thursday, May 30th at the Salem Upper Elementary Gym. The Kindergarteners through 2nd graders camp will be from 4:00 until 5:00 followed by the 3rd through 5th grade camp from 5:30 until 7:00. The cost is $30 per child and each camper will also get a T-shirt. Signups for the camp will be due by May 30th. The Salem Varsity Tennis Team lost to School of the Osage Tuesday in Districts, 5-1.

The New York Mets scored six runs in the 5th inning and held on to beat St. Louis Tuesday, 7-5. Brendan Donovan, Lars Nootbaar and Alec Burleson all homered for the Cards who play the Mets play today at 11:20 on KSMO Radio.

Willy Adames three-run homer for Milwaukee in the top of the 9th gave Milwaukee a 6-5 over Kansas City. The two teams play again today.

Sports – Tuesday, May 7th, 2024

Kaiden Dubois tied the game with a two-run 7th inning single at Mountain Grove only to have the Panthers win the game, 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning on an RBI bunt single by Garrett Hutsell. With the loss, both Salem and Mountain Grove finished the season with 6-1 in SCA Conference play and share the SCA Conference Championship. Corby Ball had two hits for the Tigers who have lost two in a row and fall to 15-4 on the year. They will play Willow Springs in a game added to the scheduled Thursday at the SHS Baseball Field Complex. This will be a varsity only game.

The Salem JV Baseball Tigers in their last game of the year beat Mountain Grove, 11-2 to finish the season with an 8-4 record.

In the Varsity Team Tennis District Semifinal Monday, with the match tied 4-4, Jordan Hubbs won the last match for the win over Houston, 5-4. Salem will play at Osage today for the district championship!!

Brandon Nimmo’s homer in the 7th inning after St. Louis had scored three runs to tie the game in the 6th inning, proved to be the difference as the New York Mets beat the reeling Red Birds, 4-3. Kyle Gibson pitched six innings giving up three runs in the no decision. The Cards will play the Mets again tonight at 5:50 on KSMO.

Michael Massey hit a homer as the Kansas City Royals scored three runs in the 7th to rally from a 2-0 deficit and beat Milwaukee, 3-2. The Royals and Brewers play again tonight.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers lost to West County in five innings Saturday, 10-0 in District play to end their season. Regan Thompson had two hits for Salem who finished the season with a 4-16 record.

The Texas Rangers tied the game in the 9th inning and won in the 10th inning Sunday as the came back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Kansas City Royals, 3-2. Texas took two of three games in the series after KC won the game Friday night, 7-1. The Royals remain 2.5 games behind Cleveland in the American League Central. The Royals start a three-game series tonight against Milwaukee at Kaufmann Stadium.

Tre Richter drove in the winning run in the 9th inning as Salem beat Cuba, 3-2 at the Salem Baseball Tournament. Pacific then beat Cuba in three innings, 15-0; before the Salem-Pacific game was delayed in the 3rd inning with Pacific leading, 3-0.

The Salem Baseball Tournament with “Pool B” teams of Licking, Waynesville and Sullivan played today. Licking beating Waynesville, 5-0; then Sullivan beat Waynesville, 3-2. In the last game, Licking beat Sullivan, 9-1. 

Athletic Director Clay Moody says the three crossover games will be played on Saturday, starting at 10:30 with the 5th place game which will be Cuba vs Waynesville, followed by the 3rd Place game at 1:00 with Salem playing Sullivan, and the 1st place game will pit Pacific against Licking at 3:30. This is all weather permitting and there may be further updates.

The Salem Boys Baseball Tigers have been seeded 2nd in Class 4, District 4 and will have a bye in the first round Saturday. Salem’s first game would be Monday, May 13th at 6:00 from St. Clair against the winner of the Cuba and Owensville game held Saturday.

The Salem Lady Tigers begin district play vs West County in Potosi on Saturday afternoon around 2:00. Salem is the 6th seed and will play the 3rd seed West County who is 6-7 on the year. That game will be audio streamed on ksmoradio.com, the KSMO Stream Facebook Page and KSMO YouTube Page. The cost of admission is $6.00 for those six and above.

The Salem Middle School Track team will be in Rolla today to participate in the Doc Roberts Rolla Invitational.

The St. Louis Cardinals begin a three game set with the Chicago White Sox starting tonight at 6:20 on KSMO. The Cards and White Sox will have afternoon games on Saturday and Sunday, each starting at 12:20 on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Royals play the Texas Rangers in a three game set starting tonight in KC.

Athletic Director Clay Moody is now saying the first game of the Salem Baseball Tournament today will start at 12:30 between Salem and Cuba at the SHS Baseball Field. The next two games to follow will also be pushed back with projected start times of 3:00 for the pacific and Cuba game and then 5:30 for the Salem and Pacific game. The “Salem Senior Night” festivities are still scheduled to be held at that last game. On Friday, the “Pool B” teams of Licking, Waynesville and Sullivan will play starting at 11:30 at the SHS Baseball Field.

The individual side of the tennis districts will be played in Salem starting at 9:00 this morning at the Salem City Park.

Montauk State Park will hold their “Spring Kids Free Fishing Day” at Montauk this Saturday. Children who are 15 and under can pick up their required “free fishing tags” at the registration booth near the fish cleaning station before the event Friday afternoon from 2:00 until 5:00 or all day Saturday during the event. All children must pick up their tag before fishing. Volunteers are needed to help with this event. Individuals wishing to volunteer do not need to be experienced anglers. If you would like to help for “Spring Kids Free Fishing Day,” or get more information about the event, please call the Montauk Hatchery at 573-548-2585. The hours of the “Spring Kids Free Fishing Day” are from 6:30 in the morning until 5:00 in the afternoon.

The Cardinals lost to Detroit Wednesday, 4-1 as Willson Contreras homered for the only St. Louis run. The Red Birds are off today.

Salvador Perez drove in his 27th run as Kansas City beat Toronto Wednesday, 6-1. The Royals have the day off today.

Salem Track had an awesome day at the SCA Conference Meet in Mt. Grove on Monday. The boys team came in 2nd with 152 points with Mt View wining the meet with 159 points and Ava in 3rd with 133 points. The girls team came in 5th with 63 points while Mt. Grove won the meet with 198 points, Willow Springs in 2nd with 110 and Houston in 3rd with 102 points. The individual results are posted on the KSMO Facebook Page.

The Ava Lady Bears scored 12 runs in the 2nd inning on two hits as they had five batters hit by a pitch and five walks en route to a 17-1 win over the Salem Tigers in three innings. The Lady Tigers finished the regular season with a 4-15 record and 0-6 in the SCA Conference. The Salem Lady Tigers will go on to begin district play vs West County in Potosi on Saturday afternoon at 2:00.

The Salem Baseball Tigers shutout Cuba Tuesday, 17-0 to improve to 14-2 on the year. They will play in their Tournament Thursday morning at 11:30 against Cuba.

Alec Burleson plated the game-tying run with a one-out single in the ninth and Pedro Pagés brought home the eventual game-winner one play later on a sacrifice fly as St. Louis topped Detroit, 2-1, in the series opener. In the second game, the Cards overcame a 4-0 deficit on a two-run homer by Brendan Donovan and a three-run homer by Alec Burleson, but the relief pitching gave the lead back as St. Louis lost to Detroit, 11-6. The Cardinals and Tigers play this afternoon at 12:10 on KSMO

Cole Ragans pitched 6 1/3rd four-hit ball as Kansas City beat Toronto for the second straight day, 4-1. The Royals and Blue Jays play this afternoon in Toronto as KS goes for the sweep.

The Salem Lady Tigers game with Mountain View-Liberty scheduled for Monday was postponed and will not be rescheduled. The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play the Ava Bears this afternoon at 4;30 at the Salem City Park. KSMO Media will be video streaming that game only due to the St. Louis Cardinal double-header today with Detroit. Stream the game on the KSMO Stream Facebook Page, KSMO YouTube Page or on ksmoradio.com. The Lady Tigers are 4-14 on the season.

The Salem Boys Baseball Tigers are scheduled to be at Cuba this afternoon starting at 4:30. Salem is 13-2 on the year. The game will NOT be aired on KSMO due to Cards baseball and the coverage of the Lady Tigers Softball game.

The Salem Tigers Baseball Tournament is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday at the Salem High School Baseball Field Complex. Thursday Salem, Cuba and Pacific will play each other in the round robin “Pool A” round beginning at 11:30 with Salem playing Cuba. On Friday, the “Pool B” round robin round will be held between Licking, Waynesville and Sullivan starting at 11:30 with Licking vs Waynesville.

The Salem Tennis Team will be in Willow Springs to play the Bears in a makeup match originally scheduled for April 9th.

The Salem Middle School Track teams will compete today in the SCA contest.

The Toronto Blue Jays held off a late rally by the Royals and held on to beat Kansas City Monday night in Toronto, 6-5. The Royals and Blue Jays play again tonight.

The Salem Lady Tigers game with Ava has been rescheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 4:30. This game will take the place of the Plato game and will be broadcast on KSMO Radio and on KSMO streaming sites. The Lady Tigers will go on to begin district play vs West County in Potosi on Saturday afternoon at 2:00.

The Salem Track teams contest at the Rolla Invitational on Friday and the Salem Varsity Tennis match was canceled due to the weather. No make up dates have been scheduled at this time.

The St. Louis Cardinals had an eventful weekend playing their three game series vs the New York Mets. The Cards took the series 2-1 with scores of 4-2, 7-4, and in extra innings yesterday fell 2-4 after a walk off home run. No rest for the Cards as the travel to Detroit today to take on the Tigers at 5:40. Tune into KSMO Radio with pregame starting at 4:45.

The Royals wrapped up their series vs Detroit yesterday. They won on Friday 8-0 but then lost the next two 5-6, and 1-4. They will travel up to Canada to face the Toronto Blue Jays today.
