The St. Louis Cardinals played the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday, and just like Wednesday’s game, extra innings were needed to determine a winner. The Cardinals would go up by a run early in the 2nd inning with a double by Dylan Carlson. The Pirates respond with a run of their own in the 4th. Five scoreless innings later, the Cardinals would get two runs in the top of the 10th just to see Pittsburgh turn the final moments of the game into a nail-biter, scoring one run in on a sacrifice fly, then almost snuck a ground ball past Masyn Winn. Winn scooped up the ball and flipped it to Nolan Gorman to secure the win for the Cards with a 3-2 score. The Kansas City Royals played their third and final game of the series versus the Tampa Bay Rays last night. In a game with a combined score of 18 runs, the Rays came away with the victory posting a final score of 10-8. The Royals now travel west to visit the Colorado Rockies for a three game series starting this evening at 7:10, then moving onto Saturday night at 8:10, and wrapping up Sunday afternoon at 2:10.

The St. Louis Blues schedule was released yesterday afternoon at 11:00, amid a busy offseason seeing the Blues participating in new player signings and trades. Preseason will begin with the Blues facing the Dallas Stars September 21st, and wrapping up against the Chicago Blackhawks in Milwaukee on October 5th. The Kansas City Royals took a lead early against the Cleveland Guardians and never looked back on their way to a 6-2 victory yesterday. This wraps up a series the Royals took 3-1. Tuesday the Tampa Bay Rays are coming to Kauffman Stadium. The Royals are currently 5 games behind the lead in the American League Central.

Miles Mikolas gave up nine runs in 4 1/3rd innings as the Cincinnati Reds destroyed the Cardinals Thursday, 11-4. Nolan Arenado hit a two run homer for St. Louis who plays the Reds tonight at 6:20, then on Saturday and Sunday at 12:20 on KSMO Radio.

Back-to-back triples by Kyle Isbel and Maikel Garcia in the 6th inning scored two runs and led Kansas City to a 2-1 win over Cleveland Thursday in Kansas City. The Royals and Guardians continue their series this weekend.

The St. Louis Cardinals and Atlanta Braves split a day-night doubleheader Wednesday with Atlanta winning the first game, 6-2; with the Cardinals winning the second game, 4-1. Seth Lugo pitched six shutout innings for Kansas City giving up only two hits while striking out eight batters, but an error by pitcher Will Smith in the 7th inning allowed Miami two score two runs and they held on to beat the Royals Tuesday night, 2-1. The Royals host Miami this afternoon in the rubber game of the series at Kaufmann Stadium.

Brendan Donovan had three hits and an RBI while Alec Burleson had two hits and an RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Atlanta Braves Monday, 4-3. Lance Lynn went 6 2/3rds innings giving up four hits and a run. The Red Birds tallied all four runs in the 3rd inning and Ryan Helsley got his 27th save. The Cards play Atlanta again tonight at 5:50 on KSMO.

Salvador Perez and Vinnie Pasquantino hit back-to-back homers and the Kansas City Royals beat the Miami Marlins Monday to snap a three-game losing streak, 4-1 Hunter Renfro added a solo homer for the Royals who will host Miami again tonight at Kaufmann Stadium.

Sonny Gray was perfect for 6 2/3rds innings before giving up a homer to Patrick Bailey, finishing with a one-hitter over seven innings to lead the St. Louis Cardinals past the San Francisco Giants Sunday, 5-3 and the Red Birds swept the three game series. Alec Burleson drove in two runs while Brendan Donovan, Brendon Crawford and Matt Carpenter drove in the others. The Cards start a three-game series with Atlanta tonight at 5:50 on KSMO.

The Texas Rangers beat Kansas City Sunday, 5-0 after shutting out the Royals Saturday, 6-0, and swept the three-game series. Kansas City will host Miami in a three-game series beginning tonight at Kaufmann Stadium.

In a game held at historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama to honor the Negro Leagues, Brendan Donovan went 3-4 and drove in three runs including the game winner as the St. Louis Cardinals beat San Francisco Thursday, 6-5. Nolan Gorman drove in two runs with sacrifice flies. The Cards are off today before playing the Giants Saturday and Sunday at 12:20 on KSMO.

Bobby Witt’s lead-off home run in the top of the 8th inning Thursday held up as the Kansas City Royals escaped Oakland with a 3-2 win over the struggling A’s, losing two of the three games. Freddie Fermin slugged two solo home runs for the other Royals’ runs. Kansas City will begin a three-game series in Texas against the Rangers.
