Ava Blankenship had 20 kills for the Sullivan Lady Eagles as they beat the Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers at the SHS Gym Thursday night in three straight games by the scores of 25-8, 25-8 and 25-20. Addison Fulton had six kills and Taylor Fulton had three more for the Lady Tigers who fall to 1-1 on the year. They will be at Winona Monday starting with the JV Game at 5:30 followed by the varsity game.
The Salem JV Lady Volleyball Tigers fell Thursday night to Sullivan in two straight games: 18-25 and 13-25 to lose their first match of the year, and the Salem Freshman also fell to Sullivan, losing two games to one.
The Salem Football Tigers will host the Potosi Trojans tonight in their first home game of 2024 at 7:00. Salem enters the game with an 0-1 record while Potosi is 1-0 after beating St. Clair last Friday night. Don’t forget the opening day parade from the City Administration offices on 4th Street to the football field before the game. The Kansas City Chiefs opened the 2024 NFL season versus the Baltimore Ravens last night and won 27-20. Rookie Xavier Worthy rushed for 21 yards and a touchdown while also tallying 47 receiving yards and another touchdown.
The St. Louis Cardinals will start a three game series versus the Seattle Mariners tonight. Both teams enter the contest with 71 wins. You can listen to this game live on KSMO 1340 AM & 95.7 FM following the Salem Tiger Football game.

The Salem JV Football Tigers Tuesday night defeated the St. James Tigers by a score of 20-6. Will Land scored two touchdowns and Brent Halinar had an interception return for a touchdown. Salem will host the Cabool Bulldogs Monday night at 6:00 at the SHS Football Field.

The St. Louis Cardinals played the Milwaukee Brewers last night, and like the night prior, it took extra innings to settle the match. The Cardinals again pulled out the late victory over the NL Central leading Brewers, 3-2, and took the overall series 2-1.
The Kansas City Royals broke their seven game losing streak and avoided the sweep last night versus the Cleveland Guardians by winning, 4-1.

The Salem Lady Tigers faced a young St. James team and beat them in three straight games Tuesday night: 25-4, 25-12 and 25-11. Unofficially Salem had 32 aces in the three games led by Madison Flores with nine followed by Reagan Dubois with eight. The Tigers are 1-0 on the year and will host the Sullivan Lady Eagles Thursday night starting with a freshman match at 4:45 followed by the JV match at 5:30. The varsity match will begin around 6:45 to 7:00 on KSMO Radio and streamed on KSMO Media beginning with Tiger Talk and Coach Deanna Adkinson.

The St. James Quarterback John Altis ran for one touchdown and threw for another as the St. James Tigers defeated the Salem Football Tigers Friday night after a 2 hour and 15 lightning delay, 28-0. Altis ran for 80 yards on nine carries with a touchdown, and was 6 of 15 passing for 35 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Blaine Noakes had 12 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown for St. James to complement their running game. Salem was led by Reuben Hovey who ran the ball 19 times for 68 yards. Salem will host Potosi Friday night in their home opener starting at 7:00.
The Salem Lady Tiger Volleyball Team will begin their season at home tonight when they play the St. James Lady Tigers at the SHS Gym. This will be a varsity only game and will begin at 6:00. The match will be video streamed live by KSMO Media on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch, of these links are available on ksmoradio.com. The game will not be heard on KSMO Radio due to St. Louis Cardinals Baseball.

The St. Louis Cardinals played the New York Yankees over the holiday weekend, losing on Friday 6-3, and winning a close one on Saturday, 6-5. But Sunday’s game would prove historic as the recently called up right fielder Jordan Walker stole the show with an incredible performance going 5 for 5 with a home run, three RBI’s, and four runs, as well as a stolen base for good measure. The Yankees haven’t seen a player put up those kinds of stats against them in nearly 100 years. The Red Birds would go on to win, 14-7. Yesterday St. Louis started a new series versus the Milwaukee Brewers, losing 9-3. Game two of the three game series begins this evening at 6:45 with pregame starting at 5:50. The Kansas City Royals were swept by the Houston Astros over their four game series. Yesterday they played the AL Central leading Cleveland Guardians and lost 4-2. This marks a six game slide by the Royals that they hope to break this evening versus Cleveland beginning at 6:40.

The Mizzou Tigers played their season opener versus the Murray State Racers yesterday. Mizzou raced out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter, going on to beat Murray State 51-0.

The St. Louis Cardinals played the San Diego Padres yesterday. The Padres tied the game in the eighth inning at three. Then, Nolan Arenado hit a single RBI in the bottom of the ninth for the walk off 4-3 victory. The Kansas City Royals played the Cleveland Guardians yesterday, and after a lengthy rain delay in the fifth, the Royals would go on to win, 6-1. The Royals are now going for the series sweep this afternoon at 12:10.

The St. Louis Cardinals played the first of four versus the San Diego Padres yesterday and it was a tough match for the Cards as they would score 4 runs on 11 hits while the Padres scored 7 runs on 8 hits. The Kansas City Royals played a doubleheader yesterday versus the Cleveland Guardians. In game one the Royals would get all four runs on two home runs defeating the Guardians, 4-3. In game two, the Royals would defeat the Guardians by a much wider margin, 9-4. Five of those runs were scored off of a Salvador Perez single home run and a grand slam home run. Game three is this evening at 5:40.

The St. Louis Cardinals played the Minnesota Twins on Friday. The Twins would go up early in the second, 1-0. Then the Cardinals would proceed to shutout the Twins for the remainder of the game while scoring 6 runs. On Saturday the roles would be reversed as the Twins shutout the Cards, 6-0. Yesterday, the Red Birds would rally late in the ninth to win, 3-2 and the overall series, 2-1. Today, St. Louis plays the San Diego Padres. Games two and three would be blowouts, both games going the Phillies way, 11-2 and 11-3. This afternoon the Royals start a new series versus the Cleveland Guardians at 12:10 in Cleveland.

The Cardinals take the series against the NL Central leading Brewers, 2-1. Tonight they’ll start a new series versus the 71-56 Minnesota Twins with pregame at 6:15 and the first pitch at 7:10.
