The Salem Boys Baseball team will start their postseason play tomorrow in St. Clair. The third seeded St. Clair Bulldogs will face the sixth seeded Cuba Wildcats first at 1:00 with the fourth seeded Salem Tigers playing the fifth seeded St. James Tigers at 4:00. Tiger Talk with Coach Edwards and Stan Stevens will start at approximately 3:50. You can listen to the Tiger’s game live on KSMO Radio 1340 AM & 95.7 FM and hear the live audio stream on KSMO Facebook and YouTube pages. KSMO Media will produce a live video stream that can be watched on MSHSAA.tv, there is a charge to watch the game that is regulated by MSHSAA.
The St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies game yesterday was rained out. They’ll have a doubleheader today that you can listen to live on KSMO Radio. Game one coverage will begin at 11:20 this morning with game two to follow at 4:20 in the afternoon. The Cardinals are 1-0 in the three game series and could go for the sweep with a pair of wins.
The Kansas City Royals faced the Houston Astros last night for game two of the series. It took until the top of the fifth for a scoring run as Freddy Fermin singled on a ground ball allowing Maikel Garcia to score. Houston respond for the Astros in the sixth with a home run and again in the bottom of the ninth, defeating the Royals, 2-1. The Royals and Astros have one more game to play in the series tonight at 7:10 before Kansas City hosts the St. Louis Cardinals Friday evening.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers scored four 1st inning runs, but the Licking Lady Wildcats scored two runs in the 2nd inning, four runs in the 3rd inning and two more runs in the 4th inning, and held on to beat Salem Monday at Potosi in the Class 2, District 3 semi-final. Zoey Dawson and Janelle Bates each had two-run doubles for the Lady Wildcats while Dawson, Halee Clayton and Kimree Brazier each had two hits for Licking. Salem was led by Reagan Dubois who homered and singled, driving in three runs; and Bailey Mahurin who had two hits and an RBI. Salem finished the year with a 12-12 record. Licking is now 14-10 and they will play West County for the district championship today at 4:00 at Potosi.
At the District Golf Tournament in Farmington, Dexter took 1st place, and St. James took 2nd place. Aiden Summers of Salem did qualify to participate in the Class 3 State Tournament in Joplin as did five St. James Tigers: Daxton Weinbaum, Isaiah Carter, Elisha Davis, Jackson Marcee and Maddix Jones. The tournament will be at the Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin.
The St. Louis Cardinals and Philidelphia Phillies matched each other run for run until Masyn Winn homered in the top of the 7th giving the Cards a 3-2 victory. They’ll play again tonight on KSMO Radio with coverage set to start at 4:50.
The Kansas City Royals scored all seven of their runs early and fended off a late rally by Houston to claim the first of three games, 7-5. They’ll take the mound again tonight, with first pitch at 7:10.

Reagan Dubois hit a walk-off one-out homerun in the bottom of the 4th inning capping off a Salem 16-1 win over Kingston Friday in Potosi in the Class 2, District 3 opening round. Alaina Norris also homered and added an RBI triple for Salem, plus she pitched four innings of one-hit ball and struck out nine batters. Alexis White went 2-3 driving in three runs, while Izzy Thomas and Olivia Bettigrew each had two RBI doubles. The Tigers will take on the Licking Lady Wildcats Monday at 6:00 in the district semi-final at Potosi as Licking beat Steelville on Friday, 11-1 in six innings. The game will be audio-streamed on the Internet only on ksmoradio.com, KSMO Stream Facebook and KSMO YouTube. The game will be video streamed on MSHSAA.TV and there is a charge to watch the game. The game will NOT be on KSMO Radio due to the St. Louis Cardinals broadcast from Philadelphia. Admission at Potosi is $6.00 per person six years of age and older.
At the Salem Baseball Tournament in Pool “B” on Friday, the Licking Wildcats beat Waynesville, 7-0, and then beat Cuba, 16-1. In the other round robin game Friday, Cuba edged Waynesville, 6-4. On Saturday, Salem lost to Pacific, 5-0, before shutting out Mountain Grove, 8-0. In the other game in Pool “A,” Pacific beat Mountain Grove, 7-3. In the championship game, Pacific beat Licking, 6-3. Named to the All-Tournament Team were Cayden Moody and Kash Howard from Salem, Landon Adams and Cameron Carnal from Cuba; and Carson Walker, Kannon Buckner and Jett Sullins from Licking.
The Salem Baseball Tigers play St. James Thursday at St. Clair in the Class 4, District 4 tournament Thursday at 4:00. Salem is seeded 4th in the tournament while St. James is seeded 5th. Admission at St. Clair is $6.00 per person six years of age and older.
The Salem Track and Field Teams competed in last week’s SCA Conference Meet in Mountain Grove where the girls finished third overall, and the boys finished second. Notable first place finishes included Evan Mendenhall in the 200m and 400m dash and the girl’s 4x800m relay team. On Saturday both teams were in Cuba for the MSHSAA Class 3 District 5 Track Tournament. The boys team finished third while the girls finished eighth overall. Evan Mendenhall took home Salem’s only first place finish at the meet during the 400m dash.
The St. Louis Cardinals had no problem sweeping the Washington Nationals over the weekend. On Friday the red birds posted a 10-0 shutout followed by a 4-2 finish on Saturday and a 6-1 result yesterday afternoon. The Cardinals start a new three game series tonight against the Philadelphia Phillies that you can listen to live on KSMO Radio with coverage set to begin at 4:50.
The Kansas City Royals lost their series against the Boston Red Sox two games to one. On Friday, the Royals pulled out a close 2-1 victory but subsequently fell the next two games on Saturday, 10-1 and Sunday, 3-1. The Royals are starting a new three game series tonight as they’ll be in Houston to face the Astros with the first pitch at 7:10.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers Class 2, District 3 opening round game with Kingston Thursday was postponed due to rain and rescheduled for today at 4:00 at Potosi. Salem is 11-11 on the year and the 2nd seed, while Kingston is 1-16 and is seeded 7th in the tournament. The game can be heard on KSMO Radio (AM 1340 and FM 95.7) and will be audio streamed on KSMO Media. Due to previous commitments, there will be no video of the game available on MSHSAA.TV. Admission at the gate is $6.00 for those who are six years of age and older.
The Salem Baseball Tournament games for “Pool A” Thursday were postponed and have been rescheduled for Saturday with Salem playing Pacific at 10:00 in the morning, Pacific will play Mountain Grove at 12:30, with Salem facing Mountain Grove at 3:00. The tournament today will feature “Pool B” teams with the 11:30 game featuring the Licking Wildcats and Waynesville Tigers, followed by Waynesville taking on Cuba at 2:00, with Cuba facing Licking at 4:30 at the SHS Baseball Field Complex. The winner of both pools will then play a championship game Saturday at 5:30 at the SHS Baseball Field.
The Salem Baseball Tigers are seeded 4th in the Class 4, District 4 Tournament and will face St. James next Thursday afternoon in the first round of district play at 4:00 at St. Clair.
The Salem Golf team will participate in the Class 3, District 1 Tournament today at the Crown Pointe Golf Club in Farmington.
The Salem Track Teams will participate in the Class 3 District 5 Tournament on Saturday at the Cuba High School.
The St Louis Cardinals are in D.C. today taking on the Nationals in the first game of three over the weekend. You can listen to tonight’s game live on KSMO Radio following Salem Lady Tiger Softball. Saturday afternoon’s game coverage will begin at 2:10 and Sunday afternoon’s coverage at 11:40.
The Kansas City Royals completed their four game sweep of the Chicago White Sox yesterday with a convincing 10-0 shutout. They’ll start a new three game series tonight versus the Boston Red Sox at 6:40.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers open Class 2, District 3 play today when they play the Kingston Lady Cougars at 3:00 at the Potosi High School Softball Field. Salem is seeded 2nd with an 11-11 record while Kingston is seeded 7th with a 1-16 record. This is the third of four games scheduled for the day, weather permitting. If played today, you can hear the game on KSMO Radio, and video streamed on KSMO Media starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Cody Woody.
The Salem Baseball Tournament is scheduled to begin today at the SHS Baseball Field Complex with Pool “A” play that features Salem playing Mountain Grove at 11:30 this morning, Pacific facing Mountain Grove at 2:00, and Salem taking on Pacific at 4:30. The tournament continues on Friday with Pool “B” play featuring Licking, Waynesville and Cuba. On Saturday, the 3rd place game will be played at 11:30, the 2nd place game will be played at 2:00 and the championship game is scheduled for a 4:30 start. Weather could be a factor today so listen to KSMO Radio or check out their Facebook Page for updates.
The St. Louis Cardinals swept the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday afternoon with a 5-0 shutout. They’ll start a new three game series tomorrow evening against the Washington Nationals.
The Kansas City Royals hosted the Chicago White Sox last night. In the bottom of the fifth Bobby Witt Jr. hit one out of the park allowing him and Luke Maile to put the first points on the board. In the top of the ninth the White Sox attempted the comeback but a Carlos Estévez struck out Josh Rojas giving the Royals the close 2-1 victory. Game four will be played this afternoon, with first pitch at 1:10, as Kansas City goes for the series sweep.

Blake Edwards and Roy Stevens each pitched three innings in a six-inning combined no-hitter as the Salem Baseball Tigers beat the Cuba Wildcats in six innings, 10-0. Edwards had a hit and three RBI while Corby Ball had two hits and two RBI in the win. The Tigers improve to 11-7-1 on the year and will host the Salem Baseball Classic starting Thursday.
The Salem Lady Softball Varsity Tigers fall to 11-11 on the year as they dropped an 8-1 decision to Plato Tuesday afternoon. Raven Gillam had three of the Salem nine hits including a double and scored the only Tigers run on a hit by Bailey Mahurin. Plato improved to 20-8 with the win. Salem has lost their last two games and begin Class 2, District 3 play Thursday at Potosi against Kingston starting at 3:00. That game will be carried live on KSMO Media.
The Salem Tennis Tigers feel to the #1 seeded Springfield-Catholic Fighting Irish, 5-0, in the Class 1, District 5 Team Tournament Tuesday, The Fighting Irish will take on Logan-Rogersville for the District Championship this afternoon at 4:00.
The St. Louis Cardinals played the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday evening in the second of a three game series. All of the scoring action happened in the sixth inning when Ke’Bryan Hayes of the Pirates doubled bringing in the first run of the game. Alec Burleson responded for the Cards hitting a double of his own allowing Nolan Arenado and Willson Contreras to score. The Cardinals won the game 2-1 and will go for the series sweep today on KSMO Radio with an 11:20 pregame and first pitch at 12:15 this afternoon.
The Kansas City Royals are also going for a series sweep against the Chicago White Sox this evening at 6:40 after defeating them in a come from behind win last night, 4-3. In the bottom of the ninth the Royals were trailing by a run until Jonathan India singled allowing Mark Canha to come home. Bobby Witt Jr. followed up with a single of his own sealing the victory.

The West Plains Zizzers scored seven times in the 1st inning after Salem had a 2-0 lead and cruised to a 12-4 win over Salem Monday at West Plains. Ethan Tuma doubled and homered for the Zizzers and finished the game with four RBI. Cayden Moody had two of the five Salem hits and also reached on an error. Salem is 10-7-1 on the year and they will host Cuba this afternoon at the SHS Baseball Field Complex starting at 4:30. Ther West Plains Zizzers JV shutout the Salem JV Tigers Monday, 10-0. They fall to 3-8-1 on the year with their final game tonight against Cuba.
The Salem Lady Softball Tigers fell to the Ava Bears in the makeup game Monday, night, 9-2. Olivia Bettigrew had two of the five Salem hits. Salem is 11-10 overall and finished 2-5 in the SCA Conference. The Lady Tigers will be at Plato today in their regular season finale.
The Salem Tennis Tigers beat the Willow Springs Bears in the Class 1, District 5 Tournament Monday, 5-2 and they will face Springfield Catholic today in the semi-final at 4:00. The winner of this match will play the winner of the Logan-Rogersville and Osage match for the district championship on May 7th at 4:00.
The SCA Middle School Track and Field Championships are today and begin at 3:00 this afternoon.
Cole Ragans pitched eleven strikeouts over five innings as the Kansas City Royals shutout the visiting Chicago White Sox, 3-0. They’ll play again today in Kansas City at 6:40.
The St. Louis Cardinals found themselves in an early two run hole against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. A Jose Barrero and Alec Burleson homerun in the third tied the game up at two a piece. Then in the bottom of the sixth Willson Contreras hit a home run and Jose Barrero batting in two runs for the Red Bird winner, 6-3. Game two is tonight, tune into KSMO Radio following Tiger Baseball for the live game.

The Salem Tiger Boys Golf team will be in Willow Springs today for the Willow Springs Open.
Also in Willow Springs today will be the Boys Tennis team who are seeded fourth in the SCA Class 1 District 5 Tournament. Their first match will be against the fifth seeded Willow Springs. There will be five matches today, with the first game set to start at 1:00.
The SCA Tournament for the Boys and Girls Track and Field teams will begin today in Mountain Grove at 1:30 this afternoon.
The St. Louis Cardinals started a new series with the Mets on Friday, and lost 9-3. Saturday’s game was rained out setting up a doubleheader yesterday. In the first game the Cardinals held off a late Mets rally for a 6-5 win. The late game was just as close with a 4-4 tie going into the bottom of the sixth when a Victor Scott II double allowed Yohel Pozo to score the final run of the game for a 5-4 Red Bird winner. The Cardinals will be starting a new three game series with the Pirates this evening that you can listen to live on KSMO Radio following the Salem Tiger Baseball game.
The Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles faced off over the weekend in a three game series that started with a 3-0 Royal shutout on Friday. The Royals returned the favor with interest shutting out the Orioles 4-0 on Saturday.Then yesterday the Royals only had two innings that they didn’t contribute to their score, defeating Baltimore 11-6. Kansas City will host the White Sox tonight at 6:40.
The St. Louis Blues took on the Jets in Winnipeg for the seventh game of the tied playoff series. Jordan Kyrou and Mathieu Joseph each scored a goal in the first to give the Blues an early two goal advantage. Cole Perfetti responded for the Jets on a power play in the second with a tip-in shot. Going into the third it was 3-1 Blues when the Jets rallied and in the last three seconds of the game, a Cole Perfetti goal, forcing overtime. It took 36 minutes and 16 seconds of extra play over two overtime periods before the Jets’ Adam Lowry would score the final goal on the night, ending the Blues season, 4-3.

Blake Edwards went the distance for the Salem Baseball Tigers giving up just four hits and a run as the Salem Baseball Tigers captured at least a share of the SCA Conference Championship with a 10-1 win over the Thayer Bobcats on Thursday at the SHS Baseball Field. Edwards also had two of the Salem seven hits in the game. Roy Stevens drove in three runs with a single and sacrifice fly, and Cayden Moody drove in two runs with walks. Salem is 10-6-1 on the year and finish with a 6-1 SCA Conference record. Salem could win the conference outright if the Willow Springs Bears beat the Ava Bears Tuesday. The next game for Salem will be Monday when they play at West Plains starting at 4:30.
JJ Smith and Braiden Gapsch made the Class 1, District 5 All-District team by finishing 4th in the Tennis doubles’ tournament. Blayne Canaday also made the All-District team by finishing 4th in the singles tournament. The Salem Tigers will play Willow Springs in the team district tournament Monday at 4:00 at the Salem Park.
The Salem High School Track and Field teams were in St. James yesterday. The Salem Boys Varsity team took first place overall out of 13 schools, while the girls varsity team took fifth overall out of 14 teams.
The Cincinnati Reds scored nine runs on nine hits including a two-run homer by Jose Trevino which would be all the offense they would need as the beat the St. Louis Cardinals Thursday, 9-1. The Cards only run scored on an error by the Reds. The Cardinals come home to face the New York Mets this weekend with the broadcast starting tonight at 6:20, then starting at 12:20 Saturday and Sunday on KSMO Radio.
Bobby Witt, Jr, had a two-run homer as the Kansas City Royals beat the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday, 8-2. Maikel Garcia had three hits for the Royals who will be in Baltimore to face the Orioles this weekend.
The St. Louis Blues are in a “must win” situation tonight as they host the Winnipeg Jets at 7:00 tonight trailing in the best of seven game series, 3 games to 2 in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The game will be delayed on KSMO until 9:30 after Cards baseball.

Liam Duncan and Fisher Williams won the MoBass Junior State Championship this past Sunday, April 27th, at the Pomme De Terre Lake with an 8.05-pound limit. Duncan and Williams are now qualified to compete for the Bassmaster Junior National Championship on Clark’s Hill Lake in Evan, Georgia on July 25th and 26th. Congratulations guys!
The Class 1, District 5 Individual Tennis Tournament of which Salem players are involved and hosted by Logan Rogersville scheduled for Wednesday, was postponed and will be rescheduled at a date to be determined.

With a win, Salem will be guaranteed at least a tie for the SCA Conference Championship, and if Ava should lose to Willow Springs, the Tigers would win the conference outright. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers game at Ava Wednesday was postponed due to the wet conditions and has been rescheduled for Monday, May 5th at 4:30 in a varsity only game.
The Salem Track teams will be participating in the St. James Invitational today starting at 3:00, weather permitting.
The St. Louis Blues played in game five of their tied series against the Jets in Winnipeg last night. Despite two Nathan Walker goals and a Jimmy Snuggerud goal the Blues fell, 5-3.
The St. Louis Cardinals played a double header yesterday and overwhelmed the Cincinnati Reds by shutting them out in the first game, 6-0. In the second game the Cards scored early and often for a 9-1 win. The final game of the series will be live on KSMO Radio this morning at 10:45.
