There has been a change for the Salem Middle School Football Program. Next Tuesday, the 8th grade football team will play Mt. View at 5:30 and the 7th grade team will play Rolla afterwards at approximately 7:00 that night.

The St. Louis Cardinals played the Detroit Tigers last night. The Pirates would outscore the Cards with three runs on eight hits, while the Cards only batted in two runs on six hits. Healthy Dent County is set to host a Round Robin Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, September 28. This is an open doubles format that begins at 9:00 a.m. This is a one-day tournament with an entry fee of $40 per team. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers travel to Ava tonight to face the Lady Bears. JV will start at 5:30 with Varsity to follow at around 7:00.
The 7th and 8th grade Salem Football Tigers will travel to Mountain Grove to face the Panthers tonight, with the 7th grade game starting at 5:30 and the 8th grade game to follow.
The Boys and Girls Cross Country teams will have a home match versus Steelville today. Be sure to take extra precautions driving in the area around the school as these student athletes are running.
The St. Louis Cardinals played their third game of a four game series last night. The Cards had an early 4-0 lead by the end of the third, only to see the Tigers respond with a two run fourth, and three run sixth, taking the lead from the Redbirds 5-4. However the Cards would play their best inning of the night in the bottom of the 7th bringing in six runs and going on to secure the victory 10-5. The Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers played their final game of three last night and swept the Royals in the series with a 4-2 victory. Up next for the Royals is a three game series versus the Giants starting tomorrow at 7:10.

The Annual Missouri Trout Fisherman’s Association Derby will be held this Saturday and Sunday at Montauk State Park near Salem. Registration will be held at the Montauk Lodge starting Friday evening at 6:15 until close, then Saturday from 6:45 until 8:00 in the morning. Rules are available at registration as well as on the website. The Derby hours are Saturday from 7:30 in the morning until Sunday morning at 11:30. There are 100 tagged fish that will be released, with a lot of cool prizes to be claimed! Everyone is welcome to participate. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers fell to the Potosi Lady Trojans last night 3-0. The Lady Tigers fall to 2-8-1 on the season as they look to get back on track versus Ava tomorrow night at 7:00.
The St. Louis Cardinals hosted the Pittsburgh Pirates last night and after an early home run by the Pirates the Cards responded with a Luken Baker RBI and Jordan Walker home run, going up 2-1. The Kansas City Royals and the Detroit Tigers played their second game of three last night. The Tigers took the early lead in the first only to see the Royals score in the third inning, locking the game up at 1 a piece. It would take extra innings for Detroit to break the tie by two, the Royals were unable to respond and lost, 3-1. These two teams will finish up the series tonight at 6:40.

The Salem Lady Tigers will travel to Potosi today for a volleyball match against the Lady Trojans. The JV game will begin at 5:30 with Varsity to follow at approximately 6:30 this evening.

Meanwhile the Redbirds were able to score in the 4th, 7th, and twice in the 8th inning to secure the 4-0 victory. The Cardinals and Pirates play again tonight with pregame beginning at 5:50. The Kansas City Royals started a new three game series versus the Detroit Tigers. The Royals got out to an early 5-2 lead by the end of the fourth inning but the Tigers promptly mounted a comeback, scoring three runs in the 5th and 6th innings overtaking the Royals 7-6. A few scoreless innings later and the Tigers would take the win. The Royals will look to get back on track during game two tonight at 6:40.

Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers traveled to West Plains on Saturday for a Showdown Tournament. They tied their first match with Spokane 1-1. The Lady Tigers lost to Blair Oaks 2-0. They lost to Rolla 2-0. After playing the Pool Play, they were placed in the Bronze Division Tournament. In that tournament, Salem defeated Doniphan 2-0, then played against Crowley Ridge Academy, from Paragould, Arkansas, but lost 2-1, for the championship. The Lady Tigers will play in Potosi tomorrow evening at 6:30.
Houston Tiger, Jordan Arthur, ran the ball 18 times for 119 yards as Houston beat the Salem Football Tigers Friday night, 28-7. Salem ran the ball for 113 yards. Ragsdale threw to Mendenhall who ran it in for a 65 yard touchdown in the third quarter, giving the Salem Tigers a total of 186 yards on offense. The Tigers will be travelling to Thayer to play against the Bobcats this Friday starting at 7:00. Mizzou Tigers Football beat the Boston College Eagles this past weekend 27-21. Their next game will be on Saturday afternoon against the Vanderbilt Commodores at 3:15.

The Salem Lady Tigers Volleyball team goes on the road tonight to face off with the Owensville Dutchgirls. The freshman game will start at 4:45, followed by the JV and Varsity games.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers came back from a 24-21 deficit to win the first game of the match with Eminence, 27-25; but the Lady Red Wings won the next three games by the scores of 25-19, 25-22 and 25-22. Addison Fulton unofficially finished with 21 kills in the four games. Salem is now 1-3 on the year and will be at Owensville Thursday starting with the freshman game at 4:45, the JV game at 5:30 and varsity match at 7:00.
The Salem JV Lady Volleyball Tigers split the two sets that were played against the JV Eminence Lady Redwings. Salem lost the first set, 16-25; and won the second set, 25-23.
The Salem 7th and 8th grade football season will begin Thursday night against Willow Springs starting with the 7th grade game at 5:30 followed by the 8th grade game at 7:00 at the SHS Football Field.

The Kansas City Royals shut out the Yankees, last night by a score of 5-0. Seth Lugo, a front-runner for the American League Cy Young Award ended up pitching seven frames, allowing only three hits and striking out ten batters. In the fifth inning, Salvador Perez drove in his 100th run of the season. This marked the second time Perez has reached the RBI Century mark in his career. Kansas City will hold the second AL Wildcard spot, three games ahead of the Minnesota Twins. The Royals will be looking for another win over the Yankees in game three, tonight at 6:05.

The Salem JV Tigers improve to 2-0 and with a 62-0 win over the Cabool Bulldogs Monday night at the SHS Field. The Tigers will host Houston Monday night at 6:00 at the SHS Football Field.
The Salem Lady Varsity Volleyball Tigers fall to 1-2 on the year as the ladies lost to the Winona Wildcats in three straight games. They will host the Eminence Red Wings tonight in a varsity only contest starting at 5:30. The match will be video streamed on ksmoradio.com, the KSMO Media YouTube Page, and the KSMO Stream Facebook Page.

Noah Walton ran the ball 13 for 151 yards and scored three touchdowns for the Potosi Trojans as they beat the Salem Football Tigers Friday night, 46-19. The freshman Trojan Quarterback, David Miller, was 10 for 14 passing for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Gavin Sapaugh and Reuben Hovey scored for Salem as the Tigers fall to 0-2 on the year. The Tigers will host the Houston Tigers this Friday night starting at 7:00 and the night will include with Homecoming festivities at the high school football field. The Kansas City Royals swept the Minnesota Twins this past weekend winning game one, on Friday 5-0, Game two on Saturday 4-2 and game three, on Sunday 2-0. The win on Sunday was Kansas City Pitcher Michael Wacha’s 100th career win, making him just the 20th active pitcher to reach that milestone. The Royals will be looking to continue their winning streak and close the gap with the AL Central leading Guardians, when they go to New York to face the Yankees, tomorrow evening at 6:05.
