The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers played the Thayer Lady Bobcats yesterday. JV lost their game 2-0 and Varsity lost in a close one 3-2. The Salem JV Lady Volleyball Tigers will be in action over the weekend as they’ll attend the Potosi JV Tournament. At the time of this publication the start times have yet to be determined. For more information visit potosiathletics.org. Salem will be hosting Bunker next Monday, October 7th for Senior Night. The varsity match will be played first starting at 5:30 with JV to follow.

The 8th grade Lady Basketball Tigers defeated Viburnum last night 48-6. The 7th and 8th grade Lady Tiger Basketball teams will host the Bourbon Lady Warhawks tonight, with tip-off of the first game at 5:30.

The 7th and 8th grade Salem Football Tigers each won their games versus Cabool Junior, 7th grade won 52-0 and 8th grade won by a score of 38-0.

The Salem Varsity Football Tigers will travel to Willow Springs tonight to face the Bears. Salem is looking for their first win versus the 2-3 Bears. The St. Louis Blues faced off against the Dallas Stars yesterday in preseason action. The Blues would win it in overtime 4-3. Their final preseason game will be tomorrow versus the Chicago Blackhawks, then on October 8th the open the season against the Seattle Kraken.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will be on the road today, they’re traveling down south to take on the Thayer Lady Bobcats. The JV will start at 5:30 with the Varsity game to follow.

The 8th grade Lady Basketball Tigers will be going to Viburnum to play against the Lady Jays with tip off scheduled for 5:30.

The 7th and 8th grade Football Tigers will be in action versus the Cabool Junior Bulldogs in Cabool. Kickoff of the 7th grade game is scheduled for 5:30 with 8th grade to follow.

The Kansas City Royals faced the Baltimore Orioles in postseason play yesterday and immediately got on the board with a run scored in the 1st. Cedric Mullins would homer in the 5th to tie the game but a single by Bobby Witt Jr. would be enough to finish off the Orioles, 2-1. The Royals will get a couple days rest before playing the Yankees this Saturday.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers played the Willow Springs Lady Bears last night and lost 0-3. The Lady Tigers fall to 5-13-2 on the season while the Lady Bears improve to 10-4-1. Salem travels to Thyer tomorrow to take on the Lady Bobcats following the JV matchup.

The Salem Volleyball Lady JV Tigers fell to Willow Springs yesterday 0-2. They’ll join the Varsity Lady Tigers on their trip to Thayer with a scheduled start time of 5:30.

The St. Louis Blues played in their fifth preseason matchup facing the Columbus Blue Jackets. After a scoreless first, both teams would get on the board in the second, ultimately the Blues would lose 3-1. The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will be holding a golf tournament fundraiser at the Spring Creek Golf Club on October 5th starting at 10:00 in the morning. It will be a four-person scramble that will include on-course games, mulligans, food and soft drinks. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers fell to a senior laden St. Clair Lady Bulldog in three straight sets Monday night at the Salem High School Gym. The scores were 10-25, 18-25 and 16-25. Senior Emma Thompson led St. Clair with 15 kills unofficially and St. Clair also served a total of 14 aces in the match. Salem is now 5-12-2 on the year while St. Clair improves to 16-8-2 on the season. Salem will be at Willow Springs tonight starting with the varsity game starting around 7:00. The Varsity Lady Tigers are 2-1 in SCA Conference play. 

The Salem Volleyball Lady JV Tigers fell to St. Clair in two straight games by the identical scores of 16-25. The loss snapped their four-match winning streak outside tournaments. They play tonight at 5:30 at Willow Springs.

The Salem Freshman Lady Volleyball Tigers evened their record at 2-2 as they beat St. Clair in three sets, two games to one. They will next play at Licking on October 10th at 5:00.

The Kansas City Royals will begin their postseason run starting with this afternoon’s Wild Card matchup versus the Baltimore Orioles with the first pitch crossing the plate at 3:08. The Salem Middle School Lady Tigers will travel to Bland this afternoon to play against the Lady Bears. Seventh grade is scheduled to start at 5:00 with eight grade to follow.

The Ava Football Bears JV team will come to town to take on the Salem JV Tigers tonight at 6:00.

The Kansas City Chiefs played the Los Angeles Chargers yesterday. The Chargers jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter but then the Chiefs would respond with 17 unanswered points, winning the game and going 4-0 on the season.

The Kansas City Royals played the Atlanta Braves over the weekend. They lost the overall series 2-1, losing Friday 3-0 and again Saturday 2-1. Yesterday the Royals would avoid the sweep with a 4-2 victory and finishing the regular season 86-76. The Royals will face the Baltimore Orioles tomorrow afternoon with the first pitch at 3:08.

The St. Louis Cardinals finished their 2024 season yesterday with a 6-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants. The Cards finish the season with a 83-79 record.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers battled the Cabool Lady Bulldogs Thursday night at the SHS Gym in SCA Conference play and fell three games to one. Cabool won the first two games: 25-17 and 25-15, but Salem came back and beat the Lady Bulldogs in the third game, 25-20, then forced the fourth game into extra time before losing, 30-28. Salem is 2-1 in the SCA Conference while the Bulldogs are 3-0 in the conference. Salem is 5-11-2 on the year while the Bulldogs improve to 14-1. Salem will host the St. Clair Lady Bulldogs Monday night starting with a freshman contest at 4:45, the JV match at 5:30 and the varsity contest around 6:45 to 7:00. The varsity match will be carried on KSMO Radio and KSMO Media.

The Salem Football Tigers scored first on an Evan Mendenhall touchdown run in the 1st quarter before the Ava Bears scored six unanswered touchdowns and beat Salem Thursday night, 60-18. Rueben Hovey and Tobey Gover also scored for Salem who are 0-5 on the year and 0-3 in the SCA Conference. Ava is now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the SCA Conference. Salem will be at Willow Springs next Friday night to face the Bears starting at 7:00. The game can be heard on KSMO Radio and seen on KSMO Media.

The Kansas City Royals played the Washington Nationals yesterday and in the top of the ninth the Royals score three unanswered runs to swept the Nationals with a 7-4 victory. They start a new series versus the Braves tonight at 6:20.

The St. Louis Cardinals played game three versus the Colorado Rockies last night. The Cards would lose the game 10-8 by giving up five runs in the eighth. They won the overall series 2-1. Tonight they begin a new three game series versus the San Francisco Giants. This will be their last series of the the 2024 season. The Salem Tiger and Lady Tiger Cross Country Teams will be competing against Belle today. Please drive cautiously if you see these student athletes out during their meet.

The St Louis Blues faced the Blue Jackets of Columbus yesterday and lost 3-0 in the preseason matchup. Their next game will be against the Blackhawks of Chicago Saturday night at 6:00.

The Kansas City Royals played the Washington Nationals yesterday and won 3-0, moving up to 84-74 on the season. They’ll go for the sweep this afternoon at 12:05.

The St. Louis Cardinals played game two versus the Colorado Rockies last night. The Cardinals would score a run in the every inning from the second thru the sixth defeating the Rockies 5-2. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers improved to 2-0 in the SCA Conference with a win over the Houston Tigers Tuesday night at the Salem High School Gym in three straight games: 25-20, 25-21 and 25-22. Unofficially, Addison Fulton led Salem with 15 kills during the match and Reagan Dubois finished with a total of 13 service points. Salemis now 5-10-2 on the year and they will host the Cabool Lady Bulldogs in SCA play Thursday night at the SHS Gym beginning at 5:30 with the JV contest followed by the varsity match. The game will NOT be carried on KSMO Media due to the Salem Tiger Football game with Ava Thursday night.

The Salem Lady JV Tigers beat Houston in three games Tuesday night at the SHS Gym, losing the first contest, 25-20, before winning the second and third games by the scores of 25-21 and 25-22. The JV Lady Tigers are 3-2 on the year and they will play Cabool Thursday night at 5:30.

The Salem Tiger 8th grade football team played the Mountain View Liberty Eagles last night and dispatched the Eagles in a 52-8 victory.

The 7th grade Salem Tigers played the Rolla Bulldogs last night and shut them out 36-0.

The Kansas City Royals played the Washington Nationals yesterday and in a scoreless regular game the Royals would go on to score the lone run of the night at the top of the tenth inning beating the Nationals, 1-0. They’ll play game two of three tonight at 5:45.

The St. Louis Cardinals played the first of three games versus the Colorado Rockies in Denver last night. It was a close game through seven innings but then Walker, Scott and Winn blew the game wide open with back-to-back-to-back RBIs in the top of the eighth breaking the tie and helping the Cards onto a 7-3 victory. The Salem JV Football Tigers game in Thayer was cancelled yesterday due to weather. Currently there is no known reschedule date.

The Salem Cross Country teams, boys and girls, are going to Ava today to compete in the Ava Invitational.

ATTENTION: The 7th and 8th grade football games tonight will be held in Rolla with the 8th grade game against Mountain View starting at 6:00, with the 7th grade game against Rolla to follow. This is due to adverse field conditions in Salem.

The Salem Varsity Volleyball Lady Tigers played in the Cabool Invitational Tournament on Saturday. They tied Ava 1-1, lost to Cabool 2-0, beat Plato 2-0, and lost to Hollister 2-1.

The St. Louis Cardinals played a three game series versus the Cleveland Guardians winning it 2-1. The Cards dropped the first game 5-1 on Friday but won Saturday 6-5 and again yesterday 2-1. St. Louis has the day off today.

The Kansas City Royals were swept in a three game series versus the Giants, 2-1 on Friday, shutout 9-0 on Saturday, and again 2-0 yesterday. The Royals have the day off today.

The St. Louis Blues played a preseason game versus the Dallas Stars on Saturday losing 2-1. Yesterday they played the Utah Hockey Club and lost 5-3. The Blues have the day off today.

Kansas City Chiefs traveled to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. The Chiefs would trail at halftime by one point but in the second half they outscored the Falcons, 9-3, going on to win 22-17.
