Sports – Tuesday, August 11th, 2020
The St. Louis Cardinals games with Pittsburgh through Wednesday have been postponed due to players having the coronavirus. Also, the Cardinals double header in Detroit on Thursday has been postponed. As of right now, the Cardinals and Chicago White Sox will play Friday night.
The Kansas City Royals had the day off and they will start a two game series in Cincinnati tonight. The Royals have won four straight games.
The St. Louis Blues will face the Vancouver Canucks in the 1st round of the Stanley Cup playoffs beginning Wednesday night at 9:00 with the pre-game show on KSMO Radio. Games to follow include Friday night at 6:30, Sunday night at 9:30 and again Monday night at 9:30. Most of those games will be heard on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Cardinals games with Chicago this past weekend were postponed due to two new Cardinal players diagnosed with COVID-19. The Pittsburgh series that was to begin tonight has also been postponed.
Maikel Franco homered to help Kansas City to a 4-2 win Sunday and a sweep of the Minnesota Twins this past weekend at Kaufmann Stadium. The Royals have won four straight games and will be off today before going to Cincinnati.
Joe Pavelski tied the game for Dallas with 33 seconds left and they went on to beat St. Louis in a shoot-out, 2-1. The Blues fell to the #4 seed in the Western Conference and will face Vancouver in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Las Vegas Knights scored 3 goals in the 2nd and 3rd periods as they beat St. Louis, 6-4. Colton Parayko scored twice for the Blues who play their final round robin game Sunday against Dallas at a time to be announced.
The Kansas City Royals smashed their way to a 13-2 win over the Chicago Cubs Thursday night as they had 18 hits, including home runs from Whit Merrifield, Maikel Franco and Jorge Soler ending their six game losing streak. The Royals start a three game series with Minnesota tonight in Kansas City.
The St. Louis Cardinals start a three game series with the Chicago Cubs tonight. The game tonight and Saturday will start at 6:20 on KSMO Radio and Sunday afternoon the broadcast will begin at 5:10 on KSMO.

The St. Louis Blues will play the Vegas Knights this evening in their second round game starting at 5:00 on KSMO with the pre-game shows with the game starting around 5:30. The Blues play their final round robin game Sunday against Dallas at a time to be announced.
The Chicago Cubs stay red hot with their 6th consecutive win last night with a score of 6-1 against the Royals in Kansas City. Chicago’s Yu Darvish pitched seven strong innings, allowing only one run, five hits, one walk and four strikeouts. The Royals and Cubs wrap up their series tonight in Kansas City.

The St. Louis Blues will play the Vegas Knights Thursday evening at 5:00 on KSMO Radio.
The Kansas City Royals fell for the 5th straight time as they lost to the Chicago Cubs, 5-4 after their 9th inning rally fell short. The Royals and Cubs tangle again tonight in Kansas City.
The St. Louis Cardinals have been cleared to fly to St. Louis from Milwaukee to start a three game series with the Cubs on Friday night.

The St. Louis Cardinals four game series with Detroit has been postponed as the Cardinals had 13 members of their organization test positive for COVID-19 with seven players and six staff members. The cardinals have been quarantined since Thursday in Milwaukee where they will stay and be tested daily. The tentative plan is to return to play Friday at home against the Chicago Cubs.
Kris Bryant homered and the Chicago Cubs shutout the Kansas City Royals, 2-0 as they dropped their 4th straight game. The Royals will host the Cubs again tonight at Kaufmann Stadium.

The St. Louis Cardinals games with Milwaukee this weekend were all cancelled due to three Cardinal players as well as three staff members being diagnosed with coronavirus. The game tonight scheduled with Detroit has also been postponed and the four game set is now scheduled to begin on Tuesday at 11:15 with a double-header to follow on Wednesday.
The Kansas City Royals had their season opening series against the Chicago White Sox and were promptly swept by the south siders over the weekend losing 3-2 Friday night, 11-5 on Saturday, and on Sunday by the final score of 9-2. The Royals start a four game series with the Chicago Cubs who right now lead the National League Central Division.
The St. Louis Blues lost to Colorado, 2-1 Sunday on a power play goal by Nazim Kadri with 1/10th of a second left. Their next game will be Thursday when they face the Vegas Nights.

The St. Louis Cardinals will try to stop a three game losing streak this afternoon 12:15 in Milwaukee as they face the Brewers to kick off a three game series on KSMO. Saturday’s game will be at 5:15 and Sunday’s game will be at 12:15 and they also can be heard on KSMO.
Detroit Tiger’s Miguel Cabrera hit two solo homers but Kansas City scored a run in 8th and added two more in the 9th to beat Detroit, 5-3. Trevor Rosenthal pitched a scoreless 9th for KC and was his first save since 2017. Kansas City will come home to start a three game series with the Chicago White Sox starting tonight at 7:05.
The St. Louis Blues will play Colorado Sunday at 5:00 or immediately after Cards baseball in a “seeding” round robin game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. That game can be heard on KSMO.

St. Louis could only muster three hits and never got a man past second base as the Minnesota Twins beat the Cardinals, 3-0 and swept the two game series. The Cards fall to 2-3 on the year and they will have today off. St. Louis will be in Milwaukee for weekend series against the Brewers starting Friday afternoon at 12:15 on KSMO Radio.
Jacoby Jones 7th inning solo homer completed the Detroit comeback after Kansas City jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings only to lose the game, 5-4. Maikel Franco had three hits and two RBI for the Royals and Witt Merrifield had two hits and scored two runs as Kansas City drops to 2-4 on the year. Kansas City will have the day off today.
The Chicago Blackhawks scored two 2nd period goals against Jordan Binnington and added two power play goals in the 3rd against Jake Allen as Chicago shutout St. Louis, 4-0. The Blues will play Colorado Sunday at 5:00 in a game to help determine what “seed” the Blues will be in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. That game can be heard on KSMO Radio.

Minnesota scored five 1st inning runs off Carlos Martinez and cruised to a 6-3 win over St. Louis. Tyler O’Neill and Tommy Edmon homered for the Cardinals who will face the Twins again tonight starting at 6:15 on KSMO Radio.
The St. Louis Cardinals announced that Miles Mikolas was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a right forearm strain that will require season-ending surgery. Pitcher Giovanny Gallegos was activated to replace Mikolas.
Witt Merrifield hit a three-run homer but it wasn’t enough as Detroit beat the Royals, 4-3. Kansas City and Detroit will tangle in the finale of the three game set at 6:10 tonight in Detroit.
The St. Louis Blues will play the Chicago Blackhawks in an exhibition game tonight at 6:15 on ksmoradio.com.
