Sports – Friday, January 17th 2025

Raven Gillam scored 17 points to lead the Salem Lady Basketball Tigers past the Cabool Lady Bulldogs Thursday night, 49-26. Addison Fulton had a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. The Lady Tigers are 1-2 in the SCA Conference and 4-8 on the year. They will host Vienna tonight at the SHS Gym in a game originally scheduled for January 27th. This will be a varsity only contest and begin at 6:00. This game will NOT be carried on KSMO Media.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will be at Ava to face the Bears in their opening SCA Conference game. The JV will start things out at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow. You can hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio and audio streamed on KSMO Media. Salem is 4-8 going into the game and they have lost their last three games. Ava goes into the game with a 5-6 record.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will host Arkansas this Saturday afternoon starting at 4:30 on KSMO Radio with the pre-game show with the play-by-play to follow at 5:00. Missouri is 14-3 on the year and 3-1 in the SEC Conference.

The Calgary Flames and Blues faced off last night. In the first period, Brayden Schenn, Colton Parayko, and Jordan Kyrou got the Blues off to a 3-0 start that would propel the Blues to a 4-1 victory. The Blues will play their first NHL game in Salt Lake City against the Utah Hockey Club tomorrow night starting at 7:30. That game can be heard on KSMO after Missouri Tiger Basketball.

The Salem Lady Tigers will be in action tonight against the Cabool Lady Bulldogs. This game will be a Varsity only match up at the SHS Gym beginning at 6:00. You can listen to the game live on KSMO 1340 AM & 95.7 FM or watch it live on KSMO Media’s Facebook, YouTube, or Twitch page. Tiger Talk with Stan Stevens and Coach Woody will start at approximately 5:50.

The Blues are playing the Calgary Flames for the second time in three days at 7:00 tonight. KSMO will carry the game on a delay following the Salem Lady Tigers Basketball game.

Sports – Wednesday, January 14th 2025

At the Mel Ritter Tribute Night held Tuesday night at the Bunker High School Gym, Kinsey Barton of the Bunker Lady Eagles scored 29 points to lead the Lady Eagles past the Lesterville Lady Bearcats by the score of 56-36. The Lady Eagles are now 7-5 on the year they will play Glendale tonight. In the boys game with Lesterville, Brennon Meloy scored 23 points to lead the Bunker past the Bearcats, 65-59. Braydon Radford netted 17 more points for Bunker while Jayton Skaggs contributed 10 points. The Bunker Eagles are 12-0 on the season and play Neosho tonight.

The Salem Lady Tigers game on Thursday with Cabool will be a varsity game only and will begin at 6:00. That game can be heard on KSMO Radio, and it will be video streamed on KSMO Media starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Cody Woody at 5:50. Salem enters the game with a 3-8 record. The Lady Tigers will also play Vienna this Friday night and that will also be a varsity only game and it will start at 6:00. 

Radek Faksa’s 3rd period goal proved to be the difference as the St. Louis Blues beat the Calgary Flames Tuesday night, 2-1 in the first of two games this week at the Enterprise Center. Colton Parayko also scored for the Blues who will face Calgary again Thursday night. That game will be heard on KSMO on a delayed basis after Lady Tiger Basketball.

The Mizzou Tigers upset the fifth ranked Florida Gators last night. The Tigers dominated early on and after the first half, held a 16 point advantage. In the second half Florida attempted a comeback, nearly flipping the scoring stat line, but the Tigers held on for the 83-82 victory. Caleb Grill scored 22 points on the night as the Tigers leading scorer. Missouri faces Arkansas Saturday afternoon at 4:30.

Sports – Tuesday, January 14th 2025

Lacey Caveness scored 31 points leading the Houston Lady Tigers to a 65-41 win over the Salem Lady Tigers Monday night at the SHS Gym. Salem was led in scoring by Addison Fulton with 15 points, all coming in the second half. Salem falls to 3-8 and 0-2 in the SCA Conference. The Lady Tigers will host Cabool Thursday night starting at 6:00 with the JV game followed by the varsity game. The varsity contest can be heard on KSMO Radio and seen on KSMO Media Video Streams starting around 7:15 with Tiger Talk and Coach Cody Woody.

Tonight, you can enjoy watching the Bunker Eagles and Lady Eagles on KSMO Media as we will video stream their games against Lesterville from the Bunker High School Gym. Tonight is the Bunker High School’s annual tribute to Mel Ritter who was a former board of education member and proud supporter of the Bunker Booster Club as well as Bunker community.

The St. Louis Blues will face the Calgary Flames in back-to-back contests tonight and again Thursday with both games on KSMO. Tonight, the game will start at 6:30 while Thursday night’s contest will be delayed until after the Lady Tigers basketball game with Cabool.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will host Houston in SCA Conference play this evening starting at 6:00 at the SHS Gym with the JV contest with the varsity game to follow. You can hear the varsity game on KSMO Radio (AM 1340 and 95.7 FM) and video stream the contest on KSMO Media (ksmoradio.com, KSMO Stream Facebook Page and KSMO YouTube Page). The varsity game should begin around 7:15 with Tiger Talk and Coach Cody Woody. Salem enters the game with a 3-7 record and 0-1 in the SCA Conference. The Lady Tigers Varsity game versus Vienna has been rescheduled to Friday, January 17th at 6:00 in the evening.

Tuesday night, KSMO Media will video stream the Bunker Eagles and Lady Eagles contests against Lesterville in their annual “Mel Ritter Tribute” night. The Lady Eagle game will be at 5:00 with the boys’ game to follow. The Lady Eagles enter the game with a 6-5 record while the boys are 11-0. The Salem Boys Basketball game with Sullivan Friday night was postponed due to the weather and rescheduled for Monday, February 3rd starting at 6:00 with a JV game followed by the varsity match.  Salem’s next game will be at Ava Friday night in the SCA Conference opener starting with the JV game at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow. 

The St. Louis Blues lost to the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday night, 2-1 with Colton Parayko scoring the only Blues’ goal with 12 seconds left. The Blues will face the Calgary Flames in back-to-back contests Tuesday and Thursday at the Enterprise Center.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers had four players score double figures as they went on to beat Vanderbilt Saturday afternoon in SEC Conference play, 75.66. The Tigers were led by Mark Mitchell with 19 points followed by Anthony Robinson II with 15 and Caleb Grill with 13 more. Missouri is now 13-3 on the year and 2-1 in the SEC Conference. The Tigers aim to continue their winning ways Tuesday night when they play at Florida. That game will NOT be heard on KSMO due to Blues hockey.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers began their SCA Conference play at Ava last night with a loss to the Lady Bears 61-28. Due to the incoming weather only the Varsity game was played. The Lady Tigers will host Houston Monday evening with JV to start at 6:00 and Varsity to follow. The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers game with the Sullivan Eagles at the SHS Gymnasium tonight has been POSTPONED and rescheduled for February 3rd with only a JV and varsity game being played starting at 6:00.

The St. Louis Blues started a four-game homestand last night against the Anaheim Ducks. The Blues hit the ice shooting. Robert Thomas, Tyler Tucker, Jordan Kyrou, and Dylan Holloway would all score in the first period. The Blues would remain dominate throughout the game and claim a 6-2 victory over the Ducks. The Blues will face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets this Saturday evening at 6:00. Columbus leads the season series 1-0 with a 6-4 victory earlier this month. You can listen to this game live on KSMO radio following the Mizzou game.

The 12-3 Mizzou Tigers will host the 13-2 Vanderbilt Commodores Saturday afternoon at 2:30. Both teams are 1-1 in SEC play. Tune into KSMO Radio at 2:00 for the pregame show, tip off to follow at 2:30.

Braiden Gapsch hit a three-pointer from near the scorer’s table with three seconds left in regulation to force overtime, but the West Plains Zizzers outlasted the Salem Tigers Wednesday night in winning 60-57. Gapsch finished with 25 points while Lincoln Thomas ended up with 11 more for Salem who falls to 4-8 on the year and will host Sullivan Friday night near 7:30 and that game can be heard on KSMO Radio and it will be video streamed on KSMO Media.

The West Plains Zizzers “C” Team beat Salem Wednesday night, 42-25 and Zizzer JV also won by beating the Salem JV Tigers, 48-36. The Salem “C ” team is 1-6 on the year and the JV is 4-4, losing four of their last five games. The Sullivan Eagles come to town Friday night starting with the “C” team game at 5:00 to be followed by the JV Tigers game at 6:15 at the SHS Gym.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will open their SCA Conference schedule at Ava tonight starting with the JV game at 6:00 followed by the varsity contest around 7:30. Salem enters the game with a 3-5 record while the Ava Lady Bears are 5-6 on the season.

The St. Louis Blues will start a four-game homestand tonight against the Anaheim Ducks beginning at 6:30 on KSMO Radio. The Blues have lost two straight contests going into the game and are 19-19-4 on the season.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tiger teams will host the West Plains Zizzers tonight at the SHS High School Gym. This game was originally scheduled to be played yesterday but due to the recent weather, was postponed to tonight. The Freshman game will start at 4:30, followed by JV and Varsity. The Varsity game can be heard on KSMO Radio (AM 1340 and 95.7 FM) and video streamed on KSMO Media (ksmoradio.com) starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Jared Patterson around 6:30. The varsity Tigers and Zizzers are both 4-7.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers game with the Sullivan Lady Eagles was cancelled yesterday due to the recent weather. At the time of this publication this game has yet to be rescheduled.

The Mizzou Tigers played the LSU Tigers last night in Columbia. Both teams entered the contest with a 11-3 record. The Mizzou Tigers took a 42-27 lead by the end of the first half. In the second, Mizzou continued to pile on the points and retain their lead through the night defeating LSU 83-67. Mizzou will host Vanderbilt this Saturday afternoon at 2:30. The St. Louis Blues and the Minnesota Wild faced off last night in Minnesota. The Wild would gain the lead early scoring two goals within the first few minutes. Pavel Buchnevich responded with a snap shot to close out the first period. In the second the Blues hit three goals in quick succession and ended the second up a goal. The seesaw game swung back into the Wild’s favor during the third period. Minnesota shutout the Blues and tallied three more goals to finish the night defeating St. Louis, 6-4. The varsity Tigers and Zizzers are both 4-7.

The Salem Lady Basketball Tigers will be at Sullivan to face the Lady Eagles tonight starting with the JV contest at 6:00 with the varsity game to follow. The Salem varsity is 3-6 on the year while Sullivan is 4-5. The Lady Eagles beat Salem in the Peoples Bank Holiday Classic, 58-25.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Minnesota night to face the second place Wild. The Blues are currently in 5th place in Western Conference.

The University of Missouri Tigers will continue their SEC Conference schedule tonight at home against LSU. That game will get underway at 8:00 with 7:30 the pregame show. Missouri is 11-3 on the year.

The Cardinal Caravan will return to Rolla to the Rolla High School Gymnasium on Saturday, January 18th around 5:30. This year’s players lineup will include Andre Pallante, Matthew Liberatore, Riley O’Brien and Matt Koperniak. The emcee will be Tom Ackerman from KMOX Radio while Bengie Molina and Kyle McClellan will also be in attendance representing the Cardinals’ Alumni. The first 400 kids (15 and under) through the door on the day of the event will receive a free Autograph Ticket which guarantees one autograph from each current and former player. Autographs will only be available for the fans who are 15 years of age and under. Tickets for the Cardinals Caravan will be available at the door on the day of the event for $5 for adults and $3 for kids (ages 3-12). All proceeds from ticket entry will benefit the American Heart Association.

The Kansas City Chiefs finished the regular season 15-2, and secured the AFC Conference first seed along with a playoff bye during this week’s wildcard weekend.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tiger teams traveled to the School of the Osage to start off the 2025 portion of their season, but they all fell short against the Indians. The Salem Freshmen drop to 1-5 on the year as they lost to the School of the Osage, 49-29. The JV Tigers also fell to the JV Indians by the score of 41-30 as their record falls to 4-3. In the varsity game, Salem tied the game at 19-19 in the first half, then watched the Indians go on an 8-0 run and they never looked back, beating the Tigers, 75-53. The Indians’ Jackson Long hit nine 3-pointers and finished the game with 31 points. Salem was led by Braiden Gapsch who netted 18 points followed by Lincoln Thomas with 17 more. The Tigers fall to 4-7 and they will host West Plains Tuesday starting with the freshman game at 4:30 at the SHS GYM followed by the JV and varsity contests.

Braden Saad had the hat trick Friday night as the St. Louis Blues shutout the Ottawa Senators, 4-0. Jordan Binnington got the shutout and Brayden Schenn also scored for the Blues who faced the Columbus Blue Jackets Saturday in Ohio. Trailing 2-0 entering the 3rd period, Brayden Schenn, Colton Parayko, Jordan Kyrou and Cam Fowler all scored in the 3rd period, but St. Louis also gave up four goals as the Blues fell to Columbus, 6-4. The Blues will be in Minnesota Tuesday night to face the Wild.

The University of Missouri men’s basketball dropped its SEC Conference opener on Saturday afternoon, falling to second-ranked Auburn on the road, 84-68. Mizzou is now 11-3 on the season, while Auburn improves to 13-1. The Tigers were led in scoring by Marques Warrick with 19 points. They will continue their SEC Conference schedule Tuesday night against LSU. That game will NOT be heard on KSMO due to Salem contest.
