Sports – Thursday, May 27th, 2021

The SCA Conference 1st, 2nd and Honorable mention teams have been released. Named to the SCA All Conference 1st team was pitcher Baylor Petty and Kody Crocker as an outfielder, Garrett Connell and Eli Wethy were named to the SCA All-Conference 2nd team as a pitcher and an infielder, and Korben Barred was named to the SCA All-Conference Honorable mention team as an outfielder. Congratulations Tigers!

Tommy Edman hit two home runs while John Gant and three relievers shut out the Chicago White Sox on six hits, 4-0. Gants is now 4-3 on the year. Edmundo Sosa had a two-RBI single in the game for St. Louis as the Cards will be in Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks at 7:45 tonight on KSMO.

Andrew Benintendi’s solo home run in the ninth tied the game for the Royals, but Tampa Bay scored in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 2-1 walk off win. The Kansas City Royals finish up their three-game series tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays in Tampa.

Sports – Wednesday, May 26th, 2021

The Class 4, District 9 All-District Baseball team has been released and three Salem Tigers and a St. James Tiger were named to the team. For St. James, Derek Skaggs was honored; and for the Salem Tigers, seniors Josh Arzt and Baylor Petty as well as junior Garrett Connell were all named to the team. Congratulations Tigers!!!

St. Louis committed three errors in the first two innings and Jack Flaherty gave up four unearned runs in losing to the White Sox, 8-3. The Cards, who have lost three straight, and the White Sox play this afternoon at 12:15 on KSMO.

Brad Keller pitched seven innings of four hit ball and Carlos Santana’s 7th inning RBI single broke a 1-1 tie as the Kansas City Royals beat the Tamps Bay Rays, 2-1. These two teams will play again tonight.

Sports – Tuesday, May 25th, 2021

Former Cardinal pitcher Lance Linn went seven innings of two-hit ball giving up just one run as the Chicago White Sox beat the Cardinals Monday night, 5-1. Andrew Vaughn’s two-run homer in the 6th inning made a loser of Kwang Hyun Kim. Paul Goldschmidt had the only RBI for the cardinals who have dropped three of the last four games. The Cardinals will play the White Sox tonight in Chicago at 6:15 on KSMO.

The Kansas City Royals had Monday off and will begin a three-game series tonight at Tampa Bay against the Rays. The Royals are 6-3 in the last nine qames.

Sports – Monday, May 24th, 2021

Five Salem Track Tigers will move on to the Class 4 State track meet after the sectional competition this past Saturday. The Tigers moving on are Caden Camden who finished 4th in pole vault, John Myslinski who came in 3rd in the 800-meter run, Nathan Pyle who took 2nd in discus, Savannah Manthey who came in 3rd in the javelin throw, and Ashton Mink who took 2nd in Shot Put. Congratulations Tigers!

Basketball camp for girls in 9th through 12th grade will be today through Thursday, May 27th at the Salem High School Gym from 11:00 in the morning until 1:00 in the afternoon. Girls in grades 5th through 8th will have camp the same afternoons from 3:30 until 5:30 in the high school gym. Girls may register upon arrival at the first day of camp for a cost of $25 per camper. Javier Baez hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning to give the Chicago Cubs a 2-1 over the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday in the rubber game of the series. Adam Wainwright went eight innings and pitched one hit ball getting no decision. The Cardinals start a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox in Chicago. Game time tonight is 6:15 on KSMO.

Carlos Santana hammered a line drive over the right-center-field wall for a two-run home run in the Royals’ 3-2 walk-off win over Detroit Sunday and series victory at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals have won four of their last six games and will have the day off today before traveling to Tampa Bay to face the Rays in a three-game series.

The St. Louis Blues season came to an end Sunday at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche as they lost by the score of 5-2 and were swept in the best-of-seven series, 4 games to none. Friday night, the Blues lost to Colorado by the score of 5-1. In the series, the Blues gave up a total of seven empty net goals.

Sports – Friday, May 21st, 2021

The Salem Tigers and St. Clair met in Sullivan Thursday afternoon for the district championship. It was a tight game until the 7th inning when a walk-off single secured the 3-2 District Championship for St. Clair.

The St. Louis Cardinals start a three game series tonight at 6:20 against the Chicago Cubs. They will play again Saturday at 5:20 and 5:10 on Sunday.

Tonight the Kansas City Royal play host to the Detroit Tigers in the first game of a three game series.

The St. Louis Blues lost 6 to 3 Wednesday night in Colorado. The Blues will be in action tonight on KSMO in the third game of the Stanley Cup Play-offs after the Cardinals game.

Salem will play St. Clair for the District Championship this afternoon at 5:00 at Sullivan. Admission is $5.00 per person. Due to scheduling conflicts KSMO will not be airing the game on Thursday.

Wednesday evening the Cardinals beat the Pirates 8-5 sweeping the short two-game series. The Cardinals will be off today and face the Chicago Cubs over the weekend. The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that they plan to expand to full seating capacity beginning on Monday, June 14th.

The Kansas City Royals got the best of the Milwaukee Brewers in the final game of their two-game series by winning Wednesday night 6-4. The Royals have today off before starting a weekend series at home against the Detroit Tigers.

The Blues were at Colorado late Wednesday night for the 2nd game of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Salem will play St. Clair for the District Championship Thursday afternoon at 5:00 at Sullivan. Admission is $5.00 per person. Due to scheduling conflicts KSMO will not be airing the game on Thursday.

The St. Louis Cardinals hosted the Pittsburg Pirates Tuesday night. St. Louis won the first game of the series 5-4. Nolan Arenado has homered in the last four games. The Cardinals and Pirates play again tonight with the pre-game beginning at 5:50 on KSMO.

The Kansas City Royals played host to the Milwaukee Brewers last night. The Royals scored in the bottom of the 8th and held the Brewers in the top of the 9th and went 2-0. The Royals finish up their series tonight with the Brewers.

The Blues play Colorado tonight after the Cardinals game on KSMO.

The Salem Baseball Tigers defeated St. James Friday afternoon in the district play-in game 3-2 on a complete game pitching effort by Garrett Connell. Baylor Petty’s two-run double in the 4th inning was the game-winning hit. Then on Saturday, Josh Arzt’ sacrifice fly in the 6th inning broke a 4-4 tie as the Tigers beat the #1 seeded Owensville Dutchmen, 5-4. Arzt finished the game with two RBI and Garrett Connell finished 2-2 with an RBI. Salem will play St. Clair for the District Championship Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 at Sullivan. Admission is $5.00 per person. Due to scheduling conflicts KSMO will not be airing the game on Tuesday.

The Salem High School Coaches and Assistant Coaches voted Friday on the male and female Tiger Award for the school year 2020-2021. The male Tiger Award went to junior Garrett Connell and the Lady Tiger Award went to Bella Jadwin. Congratulations Garrett and Bella!!!

The St. Louis Cardinals were swept by the San Diego Padres over the weeeked. Losing Friday 5-4, Saturday 13-6, and Sunday 5-3. The Cardinals are off today.

The Kansas City Royals finished up their series again the Chicago White Sox over the weekend winning two out of three after losing the game yesterday 4-3. The Royals will have today off.

The St. Louis Blues will begin the Stanley Cup Playoffs in Colorado where they will play the Avalanche tonight at 8:30 on KSMO Radio.

Sports – Friday, May 14th, 2021

The Class 4, District 9 baseball tournament has been released and Salem will face St. James in the play-in game this afternoon at Sullivan starting at 5:00. Salem is seeded 4th in the tournament. The cost of admission is $5.00 per person six years of age and older. The game will also be broadcast on KSMO Radio and audio streamed online at ksmoradio.com. If Salem wins Friday, they will play at noon Saturday against Owensville in a time change from the original schedule due to expected rain.

Salem Tiger tennis player Tatum Hatridge will play Saturday morning at 10:00 at Cape Notre Dame in the district individual singles.

Jack Flaherty pitched six strong innings and Nolan Arenado drove in a 1st inning run as the St. Louis Cardinals shutout Milwaukee on Wednesday, 2-0. Flaherty is now 7-0 on the year. The Cards begin a weekend series with the San Diego from Petco Field. The game tonight starts at 8:15 with Saturday’s game at 6:45. The game Sunday will be 5:10 in the afternoon. All games can be heard on KSMO Radio.

The Detroit Tigers scored four runs in the 2nd inning and held on to sweep the three-game series from Kansas City, 4-3. It was the 11th straight loss for the Royals. They will travel to Chicago to face the Chicago White Sox in a weekend series.

David Perron, Jordan Kyrou and Brayden Schenn each scored two goals as the St. Louis Blues came back from a 3-0 1st period deficit to beat Minnesota, 7-3. The Blues will open the playoffs Monday night at Colorado starting at 8:30 on KSMO Radio.
