The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers lost to St. Clair in three straight games Monday night. The Lady Tigers will host Thayer tonight. The varsity match can be streamed on ksmoradio.com around 6:45. Salem is 4-7-1 on the year.
Ashton Bowers hit a two-run homer and a two-run double as Salem beat Dixon Monday, 8-3. Salem will host Willow Springs this afternoon at 4:30 at the Salem City Park. The game will be on KSMO Radio, “KSMO Stream” Facebook page, and on the KSMO YouTube page. Salem is 5-9 on the year.
St. Louis had the day off Monday and the Cardinals begin a three-game series with Milwaukee tonight on KSMO after Salem Softball around 6:40. The Cardinals will have won 16-straight games and their magic number is 1 to clinch the 2nd wild card spot.
The Kansas City Royals will host Cleveland tonight at the start of a three-game series.
Sam Anas scored in overtime to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 2-1 win over Dallas in overtime Monday night. Pavel Buchnevich had a power play goal for St. Louis and Scott Perunovich had two assists for the Blues who are 2-0 on the year.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department has released several reports for the first week of September. On Wednesday, September 1st, a deputy conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Highway 32 and Phillips Street. During the stop, a 34-year-old Rolla man was arrested for driving while having his license revoked. He was transported to the Dent County Jail where he was fingerprinted, issued a summons, and released. That same day, a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Route B. During that stop, a 20-year-old Salem woman was arrested for having an active warrant through the Reynolds County Sheriff’s Office and was issued a summons for failing to drive on the right half of roadway. She was transported to the Dent County Jail and incarcerated. Later that same day, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 19. During the stop, a 44-year-old Cuba man was arrested for driving while having his license revoked or suspended, a 1st offense. The man was taken to the Dent County Jail where he was finger-printed, issued a summons, and released. The next day, Thursday the 2nd of September, a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 4000 block of Highway 68. During the stop, a 31-year-old Salem man was arrested for driving while having his license revoked or suspended, a 2nd or 3rd offense. He was transported to the Dent County Jail where he was fingerprinted, issued a summons, and released. On Saturday, September 4th, a deputy conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of MacArthur and Franklin Streets. As a result, a 32-year-old Salem man was arrested for operating a vehicle on a highway without a valid license, a 1st offense. The man was taken to the Dent County Jail where he was fingerprinted, issued a summons, and released. Later that same day, a deputy conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 19 and Highway 68. As a result of the traffic stop, a 35-year-old Salem man was arrested for a DWI as a persistent offender and failure to comply with ignition interlock device requirements. The man was transported to the Dent County Jail where he was fingerprinted, issued summons, and released to a sober party. On Saturday, September the 8th, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Dent County Road 3190 and Highway 68. During the traffic stop, a 21-year-old Salem man was arrested for driving while having his license revoked or suspended, a 1st offense and driving while intoxicated. The man was transported to the Dent County Jail where he was fingerprinted, issued a summons and released to a sober party.
An accident occurred Friday afternoon in Phelps County on Highway 63 about a half a mile south of Edgar Springs. According to the highway patrol report, a XR4145 Tractor driven by 69-year-old Bobby Gately of Edgar Springs was travelling eastbound and was backing down the state right of way while brush hogging. The tractor lost power and rolled into a culvert and overturned. Gately suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Phelps Health Hospital in Rolla by Phelps Health Ambulance. Gately was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. The tractor sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by Big Boys Towing.
An accident occurred Saturday morning at 11:56 in Phelps County on Route BB about five miles east of Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 58-year-old Barbara Underwood of Rolla was travelling eastbound and stopped in the road and began backing up. At that time, a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by a 16-year-old male juvenile from Rolla that was travelling eastbound struck the Silverado in the rear. The juvenile suffered minor injuries and sought his own treatment. He was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. The Cobalt sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by private party. The Silverado sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene.

Funeral services for Mary Ann Boxx of Salem, age 66, will be held at 2:00 this afternoon in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel and livestreamed on the Wilson Mortuary Facebook page. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of service. Burial will be in the Boss Cemetery.
A celebration of life for Samuel A. Weston of Salem, age 76, will be held from 10:00 until 12:00 noon Saturday at the Salem Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorial are suggested to the American Legion Post #99.
Graveside services for Ruth Ann Collum of Salem, age 79, will be held at 11:00 Saturday morning at the Cedar Grove Cemetery Pavillion. Services are under direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Salem.
Private family services for Dwane Hamilton Whitaker of Salem, age 88, will be held in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. A Public Memorial Service to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church or the American Heart Association. All arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of Salem. Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.
Funeral services for Shirley Mae Dew of Rolla, age 89, will be Saturday at the Salem Avenue Baptist Church in Rolla. Visitation will also be Saturday at the Church from 9:30 until service time. Interment will be in the Vienna Public Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

The Salem Football Tigers turned the ball over five times at Ava Friday night as they fell to 0-4 on the year with a 45-6 loss to the Bears. The only Salem score was a 13-yard pass from Garrett Connell to Kaden Coffman. Salem will host Willow Springs Friday night with an 0-3 record in the SCA Conference.
The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will be at St. Clair today starting at 5:00. They are 4-6-1 on the season.
On Saturday at the Licking JV Volleyball Tournament, the Salem JV took 3rd place in the Silver Division.
The Salem Lady Softball Tigers beat St. Clair Saturday in the St. James Tournament, 13-3, then lost to St. James, 17-3. Salem is 4-9 on the year and will host Dixon this afternoon at 4:30 at the Salem City Park. The game will be on KSMO Radio, “KSMO Stream” Facebook page, ksmoradio.com and on the KSMO YouTube page starting about 4:15 with Tiger Talk and Coach Phillip Karr.
Harrison Bader and Paul Goldschmidt homered and the St. Louis Cardinals scored twice in the 9th inning without getting the ball out of the infield to beat Chicago Sunday, 4-2 for their 16th straight win. The Cards will have today off.
Kris Bubic pitched seven scoreless innings giving up just two hits as Kansas City beat Detroit Sunday, 2-1. The Royals will be off today.
The Missouri Tigers lost to Boston College in overtime Saturday, 41-34 after tying the game late in the 4th quarter. Missouri is 2-2 on the year and will play Tennessee Saturday at 11:00.
The St. Louis Blues beat Minnesota Saturday night in pre-season play, 6-2 and will play Dallas tonight at 7:00 on KSMO Radio.
The LA Chargers scored 16 4th quarter points to beta the Kansas Chiefs Sunday, 30-24. Kansas City will be at Philadelphia Sunday.

This Saturday, National Public Lands Day Activities at Round Spring will be celebrated by working on several trails in the park. Volunteering on National Public Lands Day is an opportunity to spend time outside with family and friends, connect with neighbors, and enjoy the benefits that come with the satisfaction of giving back. Join us at the Round Spring Ranger Station at 10 that to work on trail projects in the park. Bring a lunch and enjoy the day outdoors. Volunteers at National Public Land Day will receive a “fee-free” coupon, good for one year, for free one-day entrance into a federal recreation site. In addition, the Ozark Riverways Foundation will sponsor a National Public Land Day celebration full of fun, food, and a free concert at Echo Bluff State Park. Fall is a great time to try the Current River Challenge hike/float adventure. This self-guided activity includes three “legs” to complete: a 4-mile hike from Round Spring to Echo Bluff State Park, a 4-mile hike from Echo Bluff to Current River State Park, and a 4-mile float from Current River State Park to Round Spring. Hikers can pick up an informational map brochure at any of the three park sites. At the conclusion of each “leg” participants will stamp their map at designated kiosks. After completion of all three legs, participants can present their stamped map at the Round Spring Ranger Station to receive an award recognizing the accomplishment. The Current River Challenge is a self-guided activity that can be completed at your own pace, in any order and timeframe desired. It can be completed in one day or over multiple days. Plan accordingly when hiking or participating in any outdoor recreational activity. Hikers should take weather conditions into consideration and be prepared during all seasons. Drinking water, rain gear, map, snacks, flashlight, sturdy hiking shoes, clothing appropriate for the weather and terrain, and emergency campfire supplies are recommended. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers beat Willow Springs in SCA Conference play Thursday in three straight games: 25-11, 25-22 and 25-17. The win evens the Lady Tigers SCA Conference record at 1-1. They are 4-6-1 on the season. The Lady Volleyball Tigers will be at St. Clair Monday night to face the Lady Bulldogs.
The Salem Football Tigers travel to Ava to face the Bears tonight in SCA Conference play. Salem enters the game with an 0-3 record and 0-2 in the SCA Conference. Ava is 4-0 going into the game with a 2-0 SCA Conference record. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers lost to Dora Thursday, 15-2 for their seventh straight loss. They will play in the St. James Tournament this weekend. Salem is 3-8 on the season.
Paul Goldschmidt hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the 7th inning, then hit a solo homer in the 9th inning for insurance as the St. Louis Cardinals rallied from 5-0 deficit to beat Milwaukee, 8-5 and sweep the four-game series and win for the 12th straight time. The Cards play the Chicago Cubs in a double-header today starting at 12:25 with the second game delayed until 9:15. You can hear those games on KSMO Radio.
The Kansas City Royals were off Thursday and start a three-game series at Detroit tonight.
The Missouri Tigers will be at Boston College Saturday. The game will not be on KSMO due to Cards baseball. Missouri is 2-1 on the year.
