The Salem Lady Tigers were down in Ava last night to face the Lady Bears. The Freshman team played first and defeated the Lady Bears in three sets, 25-15, 15-25, and 15-10. JV followed and fell in two close sets, 25-23 and 25-21. The Varsity Lady Tigers took to the hardwood and went up early taking the first two sets, 25-16 and 25-21. Then Ava battled back, claiming the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-14. The Lady Tigers returned in the fifth set with a strong 15-4 finish to defeat the Lady Bears, 3-2. The Lady Tigers will host the Houston Lady Tigers Thursday at the Salem High School Gym starting at 5:00 with the varsity contest to follow.
On Thursday in Steelville, the Salem Cross Country varsity teams were in competition. For the Tigers, they finished eighth overall as a team and Quinn Cooper had the best individual result at fortieth overall with a time of 23:35. For the Lady Tigers, they finished fourth overall as a team and Zoey Elliott took first place with her time of 21:39.
On Monday, the Varsity Lady Volleyball Eagles of Bunker traveled to Lesterville and defeated the Lady Bearcats three sets to two. The Lady Eagles will participate in the Black River League Tournament starting tonight against Viburnum and continuing on through Friday at Annapolis.
The Bunker Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams will be at Van Buren for a meet beginning at 3:30.
The St. Louis Cardinals finished up game one of three against the Pittsburgh Pirates yesterday afternoon. After five scoreless innings, the Pirates broke the tie, scoring one run in the bottom of the sixth and another in the seventh as the Red Birds were shutout 2-0. They’ll play game two live tonight on KSMO Radio 1340 AM & 95.7 FM with coverage set to begin at 4:45
