Tucker Venn of Houston rushed for 173 yards and scored three touchdowns, and Kane Crawford scored twice for Houston as he netted 140 yards rushing to lead the Houston Football Tigers past the Salem Tigers Saturday at Bill Schuchardt Stadium, 35-22. Sylis Dubois scored three touchdowns and ran for 98 yards for Salem in the game in which they actually led 22-21 with six minutes left in the contest. Salem falls to 1-2 on the year and 0-1 in the SCA Conference and they will be at Thayer Friday night.

The Salem JV Tigers will host Houston tonight starting at 6:00 at the SHS Football Field in Bill Schuchardt Stadium. Salem comes into the game with a 1-0 record. 

The Salem 7th Grade Football Tigers scored in the final 90 seconds Thursday night to come from behind and beat the Willow Springs Bears, 20-18. The Salem 8th Grade Football Team also beat Willow Springs Thursday night, 28-12. This Thursday night, the Salem 7th and 8th Grade Football Teams will be at Mountain Grove starting with the 7th grade game at 5:30 with the 8th grade game to follow.

The Salem Varsity Lady Volleyball Tigers struggled at Owensville Thursday night falling to the Dutchgirls in three straight sets: 11-25, 22-25 and 8-25. On Saturday, the Lady Tigers went 1-4 in the West Plains Showdown beating Highland Arkansas, then losing to West Plains, Blair Oaks and New Covenant Academy twice, once in pool play and the other in the silver bracket semi-finals. The Lady Tigers will be at Cuba tonight with the varsity match starting around 7:00 following the JV contest.

The Salem JV Lady Volleyball Tigers remain undefeated as they beat Owensville Thursday night, 2 sets to 1. Salem lost the 1st set, 23-25, then took the 2nd and 3rd sets by the scores of 25-11 and 15-13 respectively. The JV Lady Tigers are 4-0 on the year and they will be in Cuba tonight playing the Lady Wildcats starting at 5:30.

The Salem Freshman Volleyball Tigers lost to Owensville Thursday night in two straight sets, 12-25 and 13-25. They are 0-2 on the year and they are next scheduled to play against Ava on September 22nd at Ava.

At the Steve Waggoner Cross Country Invitational in Willow Springs last Thursday a total of 27 teams participated. The Salem Boys team finished 4th with Wesley Dooley getting the highest finish for Salem coming in 21st place. There was no girls team result, but all four Salem girls medaled: Zoey Elliott captured 3rd place, Bea Hovey finished 13th with  teammates Abbi Terrill and Savannah Beard coming in right behind her taking 14th and 15th place, respectively. The Cross Country Teams will be at the Steelville Invitational this Thursday.

With the series tied up at one the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox wrapped up their three game series yesterday afternoon in Busch Stadium. With one swing of the bat, Alec Burleson drove in all three of the Cardinals’ runs for the 3-1 red bird winner. The Cardinals are hosting the San Francisco Giants live tonight on KSMO Radio with coverage starting at 5:50.

Quarterback Austin Simmons was 19 for 29 passing for 292 and three touchdowns as the Missouri Tigers strong 2nd half led to a 38-21 win over Kansas Friday night. The game was tied at 14-14 at halftime when Missouri scored two touchdowns in under a minute to start the 3rd quarter and were never challenged from there adding 10 more points in the 4th quarter. Missouri is 2-0 and they will be home to host Troy Saturday night which will be the 100th anniversary of football at Memorial Stadium at the University of Missouri.
