The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers dominated a young St. James team Tuesday night as Salem won their first match of the year, sweeping St. James in three straight sets: 25-7, 25-5 and 25-15. The JV also won in two straight sets: 25-7 and 25-12. The win was the first in Salem for new head coach Mackenzie Stroner. Salem will be right back it Thursday night when they host the Sullivan Lady Eagles at the Salem High School Gym, starting with a freshman contest at 4:45, the JV match at 5:30, and the varsity contest beginning at about 6:45. Salem last beat Sullivan in 2009 in District play and have lost six straight to the Lady Eagles. The varsity match will be broadcast on KSMO Radio and video streamed on KSMO Media.

The Salem JV Football Tigers avenged the varsity loss from Friday night as they shutout the St. James Tigers Monday, 46-0 at St. James. Their next contest will be Monday, Labor Day at 5:30 at home against Linn.

The start time for the Salem Tiger Football home opener against Linn this Friday has been pushed back to 8:00 due to the expected hot temperatures. The start of the opening day parade has also been pushed back an hour to 6:45 with the lineup in the East Salem Hill at 6:30.

The Bunker Lady Volleyball Eagles lost a heartbreaker Tuesday night at Summersville against the Lady Wildcats in five sets. Summersville won the first set, 28-26, but Bunker came back to take the second set, 25-23. Summersville won the 3rd set, 25-21, but Bunker roared back again and captured the 4th set, 25-12. In the 5th and final set, Summersville outlasted Bunker winning the match with a 15-7 win. The Lady Eagles are 0-2 in the year and they will be in Viburnum Thursday to face the Lady Blue Jays. The JV match is scheduled for 5:00 with the varsity match to follow.

The Salem and Bunker Cross County teams will be at Winona today for their first meet of the year starting at 4:00.

Five St. Louis Cardinals’ home runs against the Dodgers late last night helped the Red Birds sail past Los Angeles, 13-8. Game two will be live tonight on KSMO Radio with pregame coverage set to start at 8:15.
