The St. James Tigers scored three runs in the first inning, then added single runs in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th innings before holding off a five-run surge by the Salem Tigers in the last two innings to hold on for a 7-5 St. James win in district play. J.V. Meurer pitched six strong innings giving up six hits and two runs while striking out 14 Salem hitters. Trevor Mitchell had a hit and three RBI while Cooper Schacht had two hits and an RBI. Max Wilson also had two hits for St. James who will play Potosi Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at St. Clair. Salem was led by Wayne Skidmore with two hits and two runs scored and Hayden Ragsdale who had a hit and two RBI. Salem finished the year with a 7-16 record.
The St. Louis Cardinals mounted yet another come from behind victory! Last night, in the ninth with two outs, the Red Birds were down by a run when Iván Herrera singled out to left field and tied the game by batting in Thomas Saggese. Then a Jordan Walker double brought JJ Wetherholt home for the deciding run. A pair of strikeouts and a flyout in the bottom of the ninth secured the Cardinals win, 5-4 and the series, 2-1. Tonight you can listen to the Battle for Missouri as the Kansas City Royals come to St. Louis for their first of three games. KSMO Radio’s coverage begins at 6:20 this evening.
